The only major gripe I have is St. John's in instead of Miami. A team with a SOS of 198 & noncon SOS of 255 has no business being in the tourney without winning their conference tourney which St. John's failed to do.

Glad we are in but baseball rpi is a total joke. They need to trash it completely & start all over. I dont see how anyone can think their numbers/calculations are close to what it should be. Pretty much what all sports are becoming though. Rpi given way too much credence imo.

We're not only in, but seem to be in a winnable regional. I hope our guys regroup by Friday and maybe Jarvis can figure his back spasm issue out. We need him back for this tourney.

*PSA for those planning on going to Tallahassee* The FSU website says tickets through them will go on sale at 3pm Eastern.

Yup! The committee was lazy as crap this year.

Well, despite it being selection Monday and the start of the Stanley Cup final, I think Tiger Woods has stolen all sports attention for the following week.

Its crazy the credit they give to winning an away game. Totally makes the rpi figure not credible imo. The home field advantage in college baseball is minimal - unless you are playing a good team with a good following. Other than that, its almost non-existent. They act as if its football or basketball. These teams that get all this credit for beating a sorry team away with 3 people in attendance...who thought that was a good idea? Its just silly. Look at Harvard. They have a 48 rpi cause they played a bunch of away games and did not beat one single decent team.

Agreed. Instead of home, Road, & neutral games being worth  0.7, 1.3, & 1.0 each respectively they should be worth 1.0,1.4, & 1.2. The way it is now road game wins count nearly twice as much as home wins. In the formula I just posted they would only be worth 40% more instead of nearly 100% more.

Good point . Schools like Auburn who play mostly a home schedule, for financial purposes I assume, really pay the price when one of those guests sneaks up on us .

And I agree about home-field advantage . It is way over rated in baseball as we have learned this year.

I'm not sure it's for financial advantages as it is us being a Southern team that in the early noncon schedule it gives northern teams a chance to come down and play a series while it's freezing up there. I just wish we had better Northern competition besides GW & Holy Cross.

I have been afflicted with back spasms for years. I cannot find the words to explain how painful and debilitating they are. Just getting out of bed can set them off for weeks. I wear a back brace at times when the spasms are at their worst. Jarvis has my sympathy because the spasms are hard to stop sometimes no matter what you do. I have seen orthopedic specialists, chiropractors, yoga instructors and witch doctors but I still have them once or twice a year. I hope he can find a way to make his spasms go away for good. :(

I'm sure weather is a factor but we have almost no travel expenses for the first month and those yankee teams probably consider this to be their spring training and likely pay most of their own expenses.   But most of all, our coaches probably think that the supposed "home field advantage" should assure us of getting off to a good start on the W-L front.  Many years that's true...but not much this year.

It would be nice to get a couple Big 10 teams...just for variety sake but I looked at some schedules and they seem to prefer going to Florida for some of those round robin tournaments in south Florida...Boca, Port St Lucie and places like that....  AU is just not far enough south to be considered a snow bird destination.

Our non conference record was 18-8. That's actually near the norm for Auburn historically. We were 14-5 in the noncon games before conference season started then stumbled to 4-3 to finish out versus in state & Georgia noncon opponents. All of that is the norm for AU too.

I was looking at the home games that we lost and to whom we lost them.   Some of those early losses did serious RPI damage . ... But that is all in the past. Time to get a good start on the "new" season.

I know FSU got hot the last 2 weeks to be a Regional Host but I like being in this regional. We can win it. FSU was on the bubble just to make the tournament 2 weeks ago.

It feels like this regional has three 2 seeds and a 4 seed. Any of the top three seeds could win this regional. They're all pretty good teams.

That 4 seed can swing it though.

So far no real surprises yet today. The most interesting game at the moment appears to be Regional Host Southern Miss getting all they want from 4 seed UIC. It's 8-7 USM in the 7th inning.

Southern Miss played a little sloppy at times in that game. They were lucky to win it.
