Tallahassee Regional: AU vs FSU Preview

Recommended Posts

Quick comparison between the two teams before game time:

1 seed Florida State is 41-21 on the year while 3 seed Auburn is 37-24. The Tigers are 2-0 in the tournament and Florida State would need to win twice to advance, while Auburn only needs one win. Let's look at some numbers:

OFFENSIVE

1.) Florida St. OBP= 0.389

    Auburn OBP = 0.371

Competition has been relatively similar all year so slight edge to FSU.

ADVANTAGE: Florida State.

2.) FSU Extra base hits= 178 (62 games) {2.87 per game)

     AU Extra base hits = 164 (61 games)

{2.68 per game}

ADVANTAGE: Null

3.) FSU Runs Per Game: 443 (62 games) {7.12 RPG}

AU Runs Per Game: 356 (61 games) {5.84 RPG}

ADVANTAGE: Florida State

Overall Advantage on Offense: Florida State

PITCHING/DEFENSE

1.) Auburn will go with their #3 starter, Davis Daniel who is 4-3 with a 5.58 ERA. FSU will counter with Andrew Karp who is 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA. Karp has been primarily a midweek guy so has not seen much ACC action. Daniel has pitched and had success in the SEC.

ADVANTAGE: Auburn

2.) Florida State fields at a 0.971 clip with 67 errors (1.08 per game). Auburn fields 0.976 with 56 errors (0.918 per game). Slight edge to Auburn.

ADVANTAGE: Auburn

3.) FSU has given 279 runs on the year, averaging 4.5 runs per game. Auburn has given up 289 runs on the year, averaging 4.74 runs per game. Pretty even here.

ADVANTAGE: Null

OVERALL Defense Advantage: Auburn

Overall comparison: Fairly even teams here. This one will come down to how much pitching Florida State has left in the tank. We've seen Auburn score runs in this regional, so a good start from Davis Daniel should put the Tigers in a super. The Tigers probably don't have as good of a bullpen as FSU but they do have almost all of it available for these two games, while FSU has already thrown a good amount of pitchers in three games. Lets go Tigers! War Eagle!
