Danny Sheridan with an AU prediction

IMO the only way CGM is fired after we go 10-2 with losses to UGA and Bama is if we are at full strength and CGM somehow Chiziks or whirleybirds his way through the UGA/Bama games.

Are we far enough removed from 2012 to laugh at how pathetic our UGA/Bama games were that year? We lost by a combined score of 87-0. That is absurd

If you combine the LSU, UGA and bama games from 2011-12, we lost 231-41, or 38.5-6.8 per game.

10-2 with good, hard fought, close losses to the axis of evil and perhaps he keeps his job (assuming the team looks solid for the future).

10-2 with the typical sloppy, inept, didn't look like they practiced all week performance against thUga (yet again) and that feeling of inferiority no matter how hard they play against bammer and he should be gone.

Don't forget too... W's & L's are the bottom line but the team needs to feel like it's on the right track.  We haven't exactly felt that way these last 2-3 years...

If Gus loses to bama and uga, Chip Kelly  will be called.

I fully agree with this. Chip would do amazing things with the athletes he would get at Auburn.

He took OREGON to the national championship game. OREGON. Most of you have no idea what that means, you just see he took a PAC12 team to the championship. But Oregon doesn't really care about football. Sure they go to the games and cheer, but once the season is over, it's on to basketball, then baseball, then... hackey sack. Oregon is really only concerned with track.

People in Oregon are as serious about track as we are about football down south.

But that's putting the horse before the cart. We have a season ahead of us that could be an EXTREMELY successful season. Gus has shown he can be very successful with a high caliber QB. That isn't a knock on Sean, it is what it is. Our WRs have a season under their belt, we have 2 QBs that can run our offense at a high level, a stud RB, and a defense that can take over the game...if we find a true replacement for Lawson's disruption.

We have a recipe for a successful season. It would be so nice to win it all and shut all these guys up.

You do realize that the fans don't play the game, right? Oregon has Phil Knight... Kelly won't be the last coach to have them sniffing championships. They just need another coach who is willing to play fast and loose with recruiting rules and who knows how to use Phil's money to keep the NCAA out of it and they will be on their way.

Oh... and I agree completely. Only two things should have a chance ruin this season for us... 1. injuries (we've done our time in that boat) and 2. our opponents end up being just good enough that we lose a couple of hard fought close ones.

Yes we certainly have done our time with injuries. We also need to make it through this summer with no arrests or suspensions. I hate starting fall camp and there being someone missing and drama ensues. We just have to go the year without a stupid catastrophe happening. The fans..the players...everybody...We need to get back to the big stage. While Saban's still here we need to dominate.

Current administrative committee is slow to award Fulmer Cup points, and it's only June. At risk of "putting my mouth on it," however, we have not one eligible offense listed so far.

I'm still trying to figure out why anybody would care what a hack like Sheridan (or any of the other talking heads for that matter) have to say about Auburn.  We all know they are not friends of Auburn, so whatever they say is going to be spun into a negative prediction or at the very least a backhanded compliment with a jab at the end.

Sheridan has nothing to offer me.  He is a complete loser.  He was willing to lose any merit he had as handicapper and analyst  to satisfy his hatred of Auburn,  The NCAA came and and said themselves that he had nothing, never did and was only bluffing to get any info from them to use against Auburn and somehow get the adoration of bammer fans.  I can not understand a hatred like Updykes and his.  That puts them into the highly "Unstable" area to me.......  Now that is just me speaking plainly as I do..... I will never listen to him on media or buy anything with his name on it...

I don't think anyone on here gives him any credibility but I do care if he talks badly about Auburn because the stuff is heard by people outside of our fanbase who don't know any better. If I heard something negative about Arizona, for example, I might believe it because I don't know any different. I care about Auburn's image, but definitely not Sheridan. He's a joke.

It's a new age of "journalism"....if you hear something negative.... you ought to be skeptical... and then if you really care, take the time to find out the truth.

This is the age where negative "news" generates clicks...which seems to be the objective.... and guys like Sheridan know how to push buttons of rivalry fans.

That Phil Knight money didn't help Helfrich that much. And what I ment by that post is that people in general in that state, which includes in state recruits. Football just isnt as important on the West coast. Oregon can't get half the athletes we get. And the ones they DO get don't eat, sleep, and breathe football like they do in the South. Just the way it is. So if he could take instate kids who don't care as much, the leftovers the California schools didn't want, and a 5* here and there to the national championship, just imagine what he could do here. This team is already built for his offense. There would be no rebuilding. It wouldn't be like hiring a prostyle coach that would take a few classes to get his "type" of players.

But again, I'm sick of changing coaches so often. I want Gus to win, and win big. I love Gus personally. But IF a change HAD to be made, it would be wise to hand Chip a blank check and say let's go. Because you better believe someone is going to hire him, sooner than later and frankly I don't want to see him at Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, or god forbid Texas A&M.

I didn't really care what he has to say. It's the off season, there isn't a lot to talk about. I thought it was preposterous saying if we lost to UGA and Bama again, Gus is toast. That's why I did have thoughts with a question mark in the title but it was changed. Either way, it was just something for us to have a discussion about.

Gets even worse if you take out LSU during that stretch. 38 points on avg.

Do people on this forum still consider the Corndogs a big rival? At one time, it was almost unanimous that they were right up there with Georgia and Alabama. I guess a reason they might not be is because we don't go up against them for recruits that often, at least compared to the other two. 2014 and 16 feel much better if they are part of that "Axis of Evil."

Fun fact: Danny Sheridan almost landed the role of Ron Burgandy but the studio elected to go with Will Ferrell in a last second change of heart.

He and Brian Van Gorder and Jeff Foxworthy all played in the same 70's porn movie together with those mustaches.

I don't think UAT will be the deciding factor for Gus's job security unless we got into the Iron Bowl with only 6 or 7 wins and a loss to UGA. A win against Bama could salvage that type of season.

We have to break one, if not both, of those streaks. We've apparently got the QB and OC now. We know we had the RBs and an improving defense. If we go 0-2 there, Gus's seat warms up in my mind.

Do we have the defense?

I respectfully disagree. Oregon has invested a ton of $$$ into the football program because it DOES mean a lot to them. They have some of the best football facilities in the country. The facilities in turn bring in the top recruits. In turn, top recruiting (with the right coaching) results in success on the field.

They really don't have the history and tradition, but they have made the necessary upgrades to change that.

I remember the days when LSU was a main rival for us fondly. While I think you're right we don't go head to head with LSU for recruits very often I, unfortunately, think the biggest contributing factor to that rivalry losing it's sizzle is that we have really not held our end of the bargain up. We are 3-7 against them the last 10 I believe. That game grew in a rivalry sense because the SEC West was always on the line for that game during the Tuberville era. It is our fault the game has lost importance as much as it pains me to say it.

^During the Chizik era that statement is absolutely correct. But the series during the Gus era has been even. It's not like LSU is far ahead of us (or ahead of us at all).

Since Gus got here:

2013:

Auburn 12-2, 7-1 (1st in west)

LSU 10-3, 5-3 (3rd in west)

35-21 LSU

2014:

Auburn 8-5, 4-4 (4th in west)

LSU 8-5, 4-4 (5th in west)

41-7 Auburn

2015:

Auburn 7-6, 2-6 (7th in west)

LSU 9-3, 5-3 (4th in west)

45-21 LSU

2016:

Auburn 8-5, 5-3 (2nd in west)

LSU 8-4, 5-3 (3rd in west)

18-13 Auburn

So both programs have been pretty much equal in the last four years. Really neither have held up their end of the bargain as of late.

This year both have one tough road trip before the game but should come in with 1 loss at most, so it could mark a return to the stature of the Tubs years.

Ah, you're right. Neither of us in the last few years have been contending for the west and that definitely diminished the rivalry. I have been so preoccupied with our underwhelming last 3 years I was kind of blinded to LSU having their own "down" period -- which is silly of me considering they fired their coach, obviously things weren't going as peachy as they'd have liked.

They're no longer "journalists" or "newsmen".  They don't even call themselves that anymore because, I guess, their hypocrisy at least has some bounds.

They go by "the media" now.  Movies and music are "media" after-all so now they don't have to be held to journalistic standards.

I mean, I've been disappointed as well but because the LSU game means more to me than it probably does to most, I don't consider last season anywhere near a complete failure, even if it's not where we need to be--especially when the game last year recaptured many of the elements that made those Tubs era (and 2010) games so great.
