Wiley with 17 rebounds is absolutely incredible. esp with 9 coming on the offensive glass. Wish USA was going for gold but handle business and get the medal and get Wiley back to Auburn healthy

AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Austin Wiley totaled 8 points, 8 rebounds and a block in 20 minutes as the United States won the bronze medal with a 96-72 victory over Spain in the FIBA U19 World Cup Cario, Egypt at the Cairo Stadium on Sunday.

Wiley shot 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-4 from the foul line with half of his eight rebounds on the offensive glass.

Wiley was the only American to average a double-double and one of seven in the U19 World Cup with 10.3 points and 10.9 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game for the tournament as the United States went 6-1. He shot 50 percent from the field.

The Hoover, Ala., native’s 40-minutes per game averages would be 20.5 points and 21.7 rebounds.

The United States dominated Germany from the start, leading 25-8 after the first quarter, 49-30 at the half and 68-45 after three.

The United States shot 54 percent from the field, 63 percent (12-of-19) from 3-point range and 65 percent (24-of-37) from the foul line. The Americans had a 51-35 rebound advantage.

USA was upset by Canada 99-87 despite Wiley’s 13 points and game-high 17 rebounds in the FIBA U19 World Cup semifinals on Saturday.

Wiley won gold last summer as he averaged 8.0 points and a team second-best 6.4 rebounds for Team USA’s gold medal winner at the FIBA Men’s U17 World Championship in Zaragoza, Spain in 2016.
