****2018 3* Safety/Star Josh Marsh commits to Auburn!!!

Highlight reels do not show missed tackles, but from what I've seen he looks like a solid tackler. He doesn't seem to be a hard hitter, and his high pad level has already been discussed.

I could be wrong (and I sure hope that I am), but I see this kid as more of a special teams specialist, ala Craig Sanders, rather than an SEC safety/linebacker.

Not a ton of missed tackles when you are #1 in the State at it.

#1 tackler in the state that means he is getting to the point of contact. Good speed and coverage skills as demonstrated in the camp.  High pads has been discussed it is an area he will have to work on but with right attitude and good coaching I think that will be addressed. I think you are right that he will be a great Special Teams player but I think depending on his growth he has the potential to be a very solid Star on our defense in the future or he might grow into a full fledged LB.  I am not sure why but he is one of those kids who I think will exceed expectations. That is a gut feeling not based on any special knowledge.

he has speed.  I remember 1 line backer a few years  back always seemed to be 1 step away from making the play.

I don't see that with this kid. I realize he is only a 3 star.  but he did lead the state in tackles and plays at a high level of competition .

where ever they choose to put him I see him being a solid contributor.

Marsh looks like a player that has been flying under the radar. Fast, physical, and leads Alabama 6A schools in tackles? How does someone like this not get noticed?

Great pickup for AU. Great pickup!

Usually means the prospect didn't do regional or national camp curcuits & also sometimes not getting help from their HS coaches on spreading the word around..

Talked with someone who was at the camp and cookout Saturday and he raved about Marsh. Said the kid was covering everyone like a blanket and is fast as "hell". Great looking athlete and is a "specimen" physically.

Yeah. Even if the 4.4/40 time he put up at AU is closer to 4.6 in reality that's still a very fast hybrid player.

Not sure his 4.41 timing is completely accurate. Even if it is not, he has elite speed for either the safety position and even better as a LB. JMO, I would rather him stay the size he is and keep all his speed and cover skills and play safety. Kid loves AU, has a good skill set and will give 120%. Gotta love this commitment.

If he runs anywhere in the 4.4- 4.6 range, I count me on his bus. A safety that has good coverage skills, and can bring the wood is exactly what we need. I personally love a guy that is a tweener between a linebacker, and a safety.

Dude is ripped. You can tell just from the photos in this thread that he's very solidly built.

And like @ellitor said, and like you confirm here, it doesn't matter that his unofficial 40 time probably isn't accurate. Obviously he ran fast enough to impress a bunch of coaches who have been around elite speed for a decade or more.

He's going to get the Hastings treatment from certain fans for awhile, but it's okay. He'll get his chance to change opinions.

247 has him listed at 4.55, which I think is probably more accurate. Still pretty dang fast nonetheless.

Yup. Cam ran a 4.59 at the NFL Combine. My mind now has it that anything near that speed or better is bookin it.

I've gotten to the point that... if they bother to report that "This guy ran a 4.whatever", then it means he's fast for his position. The specifics really don't matter to me, especially since 40 times are hardly a precise indicator of real football speed. The Cam example is perfect. That extra gear on the big run against LSU when Patrick freaking Peterson was catching up to him, after he'd already run about 60 yards? You don't really account for that with a stopwatch.

Looks like a good pick, seems to have the stats at the high school level, good size, really good speed.  Welcome to Auburn Mr. Marsh and WAR EAGLE!!!!  BOOM!!!!

The most solid tackler that I can remember at Auburn was Karlos Dansby and he was never a headhunter all he did was put the runner on the ground.  There are a lot of players that try to hit the runner as hard as they can and they have terrible form and will miss the tackle trying to for the WOW hit!!  I am not ready to compare the Marsh kid to Dansby just yet but he does seem to have a similar playing style.  His stats also indicate a good nose for the football!!!

Remember the Ellis Johnson 4-2-5?

Are you talking about the Star rating system or EJs defense? The 4-2-5 is not a bad defense if you have the right players to run it. This goes for the 3-4 & and 4-3.  I remember one time several years ago when Joe Lee Dunn was the DC at MSU and had all of his defenders standing up with none with their hands on the ground. It was odd to see, and did work a bit here and there.

He was talking about the Start position in Ellis's D.

JH started here a couple of years not too long ago.  I ain't complaining about this guy.  May or may not pan out, but we've had much worse.

Not an overly impressive list of offers. Hopefully our coaches see something all of the other SEC coaches missed. Not likely but possible.

He has all the intangibles to be a really good player.  The fact that he lead the state in tackles last year in 6A tells me he definitely has a nose for the ball.

350 tackles in 6A ball in two years! Sign me up on this kid. Still a year left to get stronger.

If we miss on other guys come signing day, then I'm ok with taking this kid. For the life of me I'll never understand why we offer & accept a kid's commitment based on what he does during one day of camp. These "camp warriors" need to prove it on the football field before we give them a spot that could go to Jibunor, Harris, McClain, Tindall, Fox, and Tannor. What happens if we land all of those guys? Do we cut this guy loose? We all know that's not the way that Malzahn recruits. There were some that we expecting us to land Harris & Jibunor this very weekend. Are we already admitting defeat for Fox to LSU or Tannor to UGA. I'm not saying that the kid can't play, I just don't understand the timing.

This kid has proved it the last 2 years on varsity and in camp. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a 4th star in season. He's an absolute workhorse, and a great kid. I can't wait to see him this season.
