Good Read on Antifa

Jeff has talked about them a lot lately and that they haven't received coverage.  Well here you go, straight from the New York Times.  It certainly doesn't put them in a good light, and rightfully so.

I find it fascinating these folks apparently aren't intelligent enough to understand they are being counterproductive.

They are actually helping the people they are trying to oppose.

Im to the point where Im turning away from the news anymore. There such a small percentage of protesters protesting for sick things, promoting violence and the sorts,  yet the news makes you think the country is in some critical chaos...or at least make it seem like its closer to that than it really is.   Ignorance is bliss!! Thats where Im headed...Id almost bet if I totally ignore the news and go about my daily life amongst the people I run across each day, Id probably get a better feel for the country and be much happier...maybe  a little less ignorant in a lot of ways! :P

After reading that article, I can see both sides were at fault for the violence.  Let me repeat that, both sides were at fault for the violence.  You can argrue all you want about the moral upper hand, but it doesn't excuse the violence.

Because their tactics are in the same cloth, which makes them a fringe hate group.

White nationalist, KKK, and neo-Nazi groups are a rather easy bunch to despise and rationalize a violent response to.  You are indeed correct that it is counterproductive.

But you would think that any reasonably intelligent person would see the results.

I can only conclude that while their emotions may be in the right place, they are not "reasonably intelligent".

Antifa action and strategy sucks. At least their intent or reason to exist is something admirable. There is nothing positive from white supremacy nazis. You have to be able to denounce white supremacist murder without calling out "both sides ". Wait a few days to address "many sides". But antifa is s***.

Personally, I suspect it is a combination of the ignorance of youth and the opposing ideology being one that naturally makes your blood boil.

I have always had huge respect for how MLK and other black leaders who adapted non-violence as a key strategy and how it was accepted by most black civil rights protestors.

What discipline and integrity it took to offer yourself up as a passive target knowing there was a good chance you could lose your life by doing so!

And then there is the more recent example in the Dylan church shooting response.  These people were and are truly exemplary Americans. The country needs to revere them and replace Confederate memorials with statues of important civil rights leaders, black or white.

Not to change the subject, but I haven't visited the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham yet.  I hope to do that on my next visit.

MLK was wise to realize that non-violence was the best way to accomplish their objective.  Considering the forces at the time that were aligned against them, a violent movement would have been crushed quickly, and then used as an excuse for continued oppression.  Hence your point about its counterproductive nature.

The only proper response to nazi marches is to follow them around with a sousaphone.

That is fantastic, funny and such a great response.   Gives the white supremacists a buffoonery feel.

They should always pick out and interview one of the toothless ones ... gives them such a respectable look

Ridicule is far more effective than violence.

Shouldn't be hard. Oftentimes, members of their supposed "master race" are the worst examples of it lol.

I would bet my house that he got the idea from Family Guy.

Flight of the Valkyries was a nice touch though.

Antifa followers are at the very minimum Marxist-sympathizers, and at worst are full-blown Communists.  They are a drastically bigger threat than the "Nazi's" you cheer them on against due to the fact that they outnumber them heavily.  Despite media driven hysteria on "white supremacists" in America, these people are a virtual non-threat to the general population (KKK participation is basically non-existent).  Antifa on the other hand features College professors (as the article shows) and a revolving supply of disillusioned youth who go to College and become brainwashed by Communist propaganda; hence the article pointing out their vast political philosophies which range from anti-capitalism to militant environmentalism, with everything else in between.  At the very core their beliefs are anti-American (or more broadly anti-Western) which means that they outright believe that it is their duty to topple the "oppressive" systems currently in place and replace them with their grand idea of Socialist (Communist) utopias.  You know, where you end up with ~100 million dead bodies and god knows how many more in the gulags.

The fact that these people are being paraded around as heroes or champions of justice is proof enough that we are rapidly spinning into the abyss.

:dunno:

I haven't seen anyone do that.  Just the opposite.

An article that was recently shared by Midatlantic called upon the people to resist the white supremacy movement.

Its exact words were: "Join an Antifa group. Start taking self defense classes."
