I agree with a bunch of people on here. Hopefully they showed the more vanilla Gus style offense to prevent Clemson from getting a good look at our other concepts and packages. I am also baffled about NCM being the invisible man tonight. Hopefully he will ball out next week!

On a comparative note, Hurts only managed 90 something yards passing and looked terrible under pressure. Should be an interesting year.

This. I've missed having a dominant Auburn defense ever since I was a preteen in 2004. We've had glimpses but it's been so long. Clemson's young QB will struggle against our D. We just have to hope Stidham struggles less.

no thanks to the offense again for the negative points to spoil a shutout performance!

Amazing how nearly identical the stats were for KJ and KM running the ball.  14-16 carries, 136 yards,  60-61 longest run.

My biggest takeaway from this game... D LINE!! One of the best I've ever seen. That pass from Stidham to Hastings settled any doubt I might of had about him... beautiful! Also, hats off to GASO because they were very disciplined and made us earn everything we got. Onto Clemson!

-Defense is incredible; I don't care who they played -- that containment was perfect. Makes me believe they can handle a mobile QB

-Stidham hit some really nice throws and missed a couple. He looked nervous in the pocket like he wasn't ready to take a hit after a throw (I don't blame him)

-Slayton looked very unSlayton like. Crossing routes are awesome. Our slot guys are gonna tear teams up I think.

-Pettway is a game changer. KJ just can't run the same way and is made of glass.

-Turnovers can't happen like that.

-Playcalling makes me mad like it always does, but I could see some differences. Loved the out routes and crossing routes.

-Overall, this defense is better than I had imagined. They had their heads in the game (shout out my man crush Dontavius). Offense will be a different beast with Pettway back.

What in the OL is everyone saying was so bad?

Looked to me like Stidham wasn't hitting his check downs in the blitz that's not on the OL.

Stidham had a great pocket but just wouldn't throw the ball.

I wonder if that INT spooked him a bit. He seemed more agressive before it happened, but that could have been adrenaline too.

Gus says after the game that Pettway and Davis will be next week. Sean out til week 3.

Wait what? Sean is not available next week against the defending natl champions, and we don't get Malik any touches in a blow out win tonight? Genious.

We can look at our offense this way. Even if tonight's game plan was not window dressing for next week, having one QB and Pettway start will drastically increase our chance of winning.

However, I'm about 60% convinced our offense will look like it did tonight. Our wide receivers need to step up. If Slayton has another game like this he deserves to lose his spot.

This was definitely Gus's offense.  But it was very vanilla by design.  I'm hoping we see more of Lindsey's offense next week.  Defense looks good especially the D Line.  The WRs are still a mystery.  Good win, I'll take it.

#WDE

His offense never threw any x routes and a lot of good passes in crossing routes tonigh!

I am wondering if they ran Gus' O tonight to limit the preparation for Clemson.

This would make sense to me.  With Gus being Gus, I'm sure he wanted to limit the game film available to Clemson.  That could partially explain some of the sloppy execution in the first half.  In addition to first game jitters, if they had been practicing, say, 90% Chip offense, in preparation for Clemson, and 10% Gus offense, in preparation for GS, I wouldn't expect them to look 100% polished today.  As far as getting ready to face Clemson's D goes, facing our D in practice would serve that purpose better, while maintaining the element of surprise.  My fingers are crossed that that's the case.  WDE!

I too am mostly disappointed with the look of this supposedly new offense. Apparently the GA Southern coaches told the SEC network guys that they prepared for a Gus Malzahn offense, not a Chip Lindsey offense. Looks like they were spot on. Hoping to see quite an improvement next week in the passing game. Being honest, we were virtually ineffective throwing the football down the field against a sunbelt defense. It would be a shame to waste such an outstanding defense with more of the offensive ineptitude we witnessed last year. I am highly pissed also, that we wound up having to suspend some of the key cogs to our season in the first game. 3 years in a row that Gus has suspended, or dismissed perhaps his most valuable offensive player. edit: Sorry, 4 years, forgot about Marshall in 2014.

Hope you're mad at the players and no one else for their suspension. They need to get their crap together for the TEAM.

KJ breaks my heart.

i hope our O looks totally different next week and I believe it will. I think JS will study this game and improve. I expect NCM to pop through a lot next week and am wondering if that's why he was semi-MIA?

Our D....y'all. I thought Marlon wasn't playing tonight? I saw Cowart throw someone on the ground. I'm excited for our D

DC - that was a surprise.

Not seeing any love for Sal on here. Yes, he dropped an easy catch, but how good was it to see that big target as an option on 3rd down? I think he will be a big play maker for us as the season goes on.

It sucks for Slayton that the replay ref was blind. He deserved that catch he made and brought down after taking a helmet to the leg. I think he will also be a bigger threat as the year progresses and Stidham develops in-game rhythm.

As for NCM... I'm not sure we called the kind of game that would have highlighted him. I also wonder if they focused their D on him to prevent the long ball. That would explain Hastings being the target for the long touchdown, when he's more of a short to mid route specialist.

The most exciting thing about our O-Line? They face our D all week long. They will just get better.

Honestly, we're probably facing worse defenses than Georgia Southern in the two weeks following Clemson.

So Jarrett will have a chance to get the rust off.
