Barkley is just a generational talent. Dude is a freak of nature. I wish my quads looked like that. People like AP said that he could be the GOAT one day after just one season. If he can carry that sorry giants team to the playoffs I'll be impressed. We are in a new golden age of RB talent. Which is crazy because the league has never been more about the pass and great QB play. But Barkley, Gurley and Zeke (who imo is the best all around rb in the league) are all generational talents at RB. And then you got Run CMC who may go down as the greatest pass catching RB of all time when it is all said and done. This crop of RBs is just so special.

McLoofus 35,182
Apologies if it's already been discussed, but I watched the first few episodes of S4 of All or Nothing on Amazon last night. This one's about the 2018 Panthers and it is, of course, very Cam-heavy. And a somewhat interesting look into an NFL season so far. We'll see if it goes anywhere exciting but Carolina isn't exactly the edgiest franchise in sports.

In fact the only times I can think of it is my left handed brother Steve Young replacing Joe Montana at San Fran & Rogers after Favre. Just looked up & saw there was a short lay over between Bob Greise & my all time GOAT, Dan "The Man" Marino.

Auburn Kev 1,653
Quote Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti dies at 78 Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti died at the age of 78. The Miami Dolphins confirmed the news of the passing. An eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, Buoniconti was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Dolphins and played a pivotal role during the 1972 Perfect Season, when Miami went 17-0 and won Super Bowl VII. Pro Football Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker offered his condolences over the passing. "Nick Buoniconti was a true hero of the game. His inspiring Hall of Fame journey that started as a 13th round draft choice to leading the Dolphins 'No Name' defense is one filled with grit, determination, courage and compassion. Nick's contributions off the field were even greater than what he did on it. He lived a life of honor and nobility and his legacy will live forever through his Bronzed Bust in Canton, Ohio. "The entire Hall of Fame family mourns Nick's passing and we will keep his wife Lynn and his entire family in our thoughts and prayers." The 102nd overall pick in the 1962 AFL Draft, Buoniconti began his career and played seven seasons with the Boston Patriots. The linebacker was named to five AFL All-Star Games and four AFL All-Pro teams as a member of the Pats. Ahead of the 1969 season, Buoniconti was traded to Miami where he spent seven years and played under and alongside fellow Hall of Famers Don Shula, Bob Griese, Larry Csonka and Paul Warfield. Buoniconti finished his career with 32 interceptions, the third-most by a linebacker in NFL history. The linebacker was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001. Buoniconti is also a member of both the Patriots Hall of Fame and Dolphins Honor Roll. Off the field, Buoniconti will be remembered for raising more than $450 million for research into the treatment of spinal cord and brain injuries. After his son, Marc, was rendered quadriplegic while playing football in 1985, Buoniconti co-founded the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, one of the world's leading neurological research centers. Buoniconti also worked on HBO's "Inside the NFL" for 23 seasons and spent time as an agent to over 30 professional athletes such as Andre Dawson and Bucky Dent. Marc Buoniconti issued the following sentiments on the passing of his father: "Today, with a heavy heart and profound sorrow, my family and the entire Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and Buoniconti Fund community mourn the loss of a man who was truly larger than life, my father, NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti. My dad has been my hero and represents what I have always aspired to be; a leader, a mentor and a champion. He selflessly gave all to football, to his family and to those who are less fortunate. He made a promise to me that turned into a revolution in paralysis research. We can best honor his dedication and endless commitment by continuing with our work until that promise is fulfilled and a cure is found." Auburn Kev 1,653
Quote Bills’ receiver Duke Williams: ‘There’s always a chip on my shoulder’ Updated Aug 08, 8:59 AM;Posted Aug 08, 8:30 AM By Mark Inabinett | minabinett@al.com Buffalo Bills wide receiver D’haquille “Duke” Williams’ football journey to Thursday night’s preseason opener has featured some distinct highs and lows. A junior-college star at Mississippi Gulf Coast, Williams was dismissedfrom the Auburn football team in 2015. Cut by the Los Angeles Rams after his first NFL training camp in 2016, Williams bounced back by leading the Canadian Football League in receiving yards last season. “I’m excited," Williams said about Thursday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. "It’s been a long two years for me, but I’m back now. I’m thankful to the Bills for giving me this opportunity and to be able to play this game. "Thursday night is going to be a lot of pressure off my back because I’m definitely going out there to dominate and stand out and be one of the players who stand out and finish plays and show them that I want to be a Bill.” When the 2018 season ended, Buffalo had one of the thinnest wide-receiver corps in the NFL. Second-year player Zay Jones led Buffalo with 56 receptions for 652 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018. Robert Foster, an undrafted rookie from Alabama, came on in the second half of the season to catch 27 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns. No other wide receiver on the team as it headed into the offseason had more than 18 receptions in 2018. The Bills signed wide receivers Cole Beasley from the Dallas Cowboys, John Brown from the Baltimore Ravens and Andre Roberts (the 2018 All-Pro kick returner) from the New York Jets in free agency in addition to adding Williams after he earned All-CFL recognition in his second season with the Edmonton Eskimos. Williams caught 88 passes for a league-leading 1,579 yards and also tied for the CFL lead with 11 touchdown receptions in 2018. Buffalo also has holdovers Isaiah McKenzie and Ray-Ray McCloud in the wide-receivers room. In his two seasons as the Bills’ head coach, Sean McDermott has shown a preference for carrying five wide receivers on the active roster. Listed as fourth-team on Buffalo’s first depth chart of the preseason, Williams has a climb ahead to make the Bills’ regular-season roster. “I don’t mind,” Williams said last week. “I’ve got vets in front of me. I’m just trying to work my way up. I’ve got four weeks to do this, so eventually I know I’ll work my way up in four weeks. I’m built for it. I overcame adversity my whole life, so this is nothing new to me. I’m just here to show them that I’m ready to work, and whatever it takes, I’m going to do that. … "I’ve been dogged before. I’ve been down. I’ve been criticized my whole life, so there’s always a chip on my shoulder, and I want people to feel my pain. A lot of people wouldn’t be able to take what I went through, and I just want to show them that anything is possible as long as you put your faith in that man above, and that’s what I’ve been doing." At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Williams is the biggest of the 12 wide receivers on the Bills’ roster, and that has him looking forward to something in the preseason game that is perhaps less available in the training-camp practices: “Contact. Get a little physical.” “It’s going to be like a bull seeing red," Williams said. "All I’m going to see is red that night. Every time we run the ball, I’m looking to kill something.” The Bills and the Colts will kick off at 6 p.m. CDT Thursday at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York. 2

Auburn Kev 1,653
Quote Cardinals cut ties with projected defensive starter after charge of assault with a deadly weapon by John Breech The Cardinals made the decision to cut ties with defensive lineman Darius Philon on Saturday, less than 24 hours after he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for an incident that took place in May. According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the incident took place at a strip club in Arizona during the early morning hours of May 17. Apparently, Philon asked two women to come out to the parking lot with him, and while they were out there, he allegedly grabbed a gun and pointed it at the chest of one of the women. At that point, the alleged victim told police that Philon then asked them "which one of you wants a bullet?" According to one victim, who worked at the club, Philon came back the next night hoping to "make things right." However, the alleged victim wanted nothing to do with Philon after the incident from the night before. Philon was arrested Friday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The 25-year-old had a court hearing on Saturday and was released from jail after paying a $5,000 bond. At the time of his release from jail on Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals still weren't sure if they were going to release him. "The team is aware of the situation and very serious allegations involving Darius Philon," the team said in a statement. "We have informed the National Football League as required by the league's Personal Conduct Policy and will comment further when appropriate." A few hours after that statement was released, the Cards decided to cut ties with Philon in a move that is going to cost them some serious money. Philon signed two-year, $10 million deal with the Cardinals in March that included $5 million in guaranteed money, which means he's going to walk away with a hefty parting gift. Before signing with Arizona, Philon had spent the first four years of his career with the Chargers, who made him a sixth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Philon was projected to start on the Cardinals defensive line this year and had even made a start in the team's opening preseason game, a 17-13 win over the Chargers that was held Thursday. Philon has played in a total of 54 games in his career, including 19 starts. The defensive lineman landed his deal with Arizona after tallying four or more sacks in each of the past two seasons. Auburn Kev 1,653
Quote Pittsburgh Steelers assistant Darryl Drake dies at 62 By Brad Crawford Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach Darryl Drake died early Sunday, the franchise announced through a statement. Drake was 62. Drake, a Kentucky native who graduated from Western Kentucky, was entering his second season with the franchise as the Steelers' wide receivers coach and also served as the wide receivers coach with the Bears and Cardinals previously. Before jumping to the NFL, Drake was on Mack Brown's first staff at Texas (1998-2003), grooming the best receiving corps in school history. Steelers President Art Rooney II put out the following statement on Sunday: "We are at a loss for words following Darryl Drake’s passing this morning. Darryl had such an impact on the players he coached and everyone he worked with throughout his entire career. He was a passionate coach and had a tremendous spirit toward life, his family, his faith and the game of football. Our prayers and thoughts are with his wife, Sheila, his three daughters, his grandchildren and entire family during this difficult time.” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin released a statement as well, saying, " Darryl was a close friend and had a tremendous impact on my coaching career. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, and it is difficult to put into words the grief our entire team is going through right now. "Darryl loved the game of football and every player he ever coached. We will use our faith to guide us and help his family throughout the difficult time. My heart and our prayers are with his wife, Sheila, and Darryl’s entire family." According to NFL.com: Drake spent 21 seasons coaching in college prior to entering the NFL coaching ranks. He made stops at Western Kentucky (1983-91), Georgia (1992-96), Baylor (1997) and Texas (1998-2003). Before he turned to coaching, Drake was a wide receiver at Western Kentucky in the mid-1970s. He participated in two training camps as a player with the Washington Redskins (1979) and Cincinnati Bengals (1983). The Steelers have reportedly cancelled their practice sessions for Sunday and Saint Vincent College is closed.
