According to a report from the AU administration, AU employees, including the coaches, are forbidden to discuss the investigation with anyone, including players. The FBI promises a charge of Obstruction Of Justice on anyone caught violating this rule. So, legally, no, our coaches cannot ask or even listen to any player about this subject. Even if they do know or can guess who is involved, to act upon that knowledge might result in them getting charged by the FBI.

Caught between the proverbial rock and the hard spot....FBI has one set of rules (called laws) and the NCAA a different set ( violations) and it would not be out of character for the NCAA to levy penalties for illegal participation whether the school knew, or should have known.....or honestly knew nothing...despite the FBI warnings.

Also, it  seems it could be possible that eligibility might have been a factor last year depending on when any alleged payments took place. .

We don't look like an Elite Eight team so AU might as well roll the dice and play everyone....and if later the school has NCAA problems, just deal with them at that time.  Some penalties in those cases listed on the link I posted happened years after the "offenses" occurred....and that could be the case this time for all of the schools involved in the current problems.
