end the hot seat talk

Giving the player forward progress in certain circumstances is kind of complicated, because in that play he actually was still trying to gain yardage and ended up losing yardage.  If they would have spotted the ball after all that player did, it would not have been a first down.

I’ll happily admit it. I thought Gus would need to be fired, and now it’s clear he shouldn’t be.

We've certainly turned a corner since the LSU loss. I hope it broke Gus's heart like it did ours. At the least I hope he realized he can't sit on leads in this league, or in big games, its just took risky and the teams are so talented. If Gus really did take the LSU to hearth, then I do not want another coach. I hope Gus turned over a new leaf and will be our coach for several years to come. I hope bringing in a new AD will make things easier for him as well.

What planet are you living on? From StatTiger's current game report card: " Auburn under Gus Malzahn is now 7-3 against ranked opponents, when the Tigers are ranked in the top-10."

After your gentlemanly question about which planet I was from, I went back and pulled the information myself. We are actually 9-20 against TOP 20 teams from 2012-2017 to-date and 3-14 against LSU, Georgia, and Alabama, which I consider our biggest three rivals.  (I was lazy didn't look up the info, took from another poster, and tried to use my memory, etc = fail. Figured then it would come back to bite me and it did. However, didn't appreciate the smart @ss response from you Mikey. So here is documentation.)

And actually - based on Wikipedia, Tigers are 7-6 against Top 20 teams when Tigers are ranked in the Top 10, and 4-4 against Top 10 teams when Tigers are ranked in the Top 10 as of today.

Bottom line: I personally don't like the winning percentage, especially against what I consider our three biggest rivals. If you don't agree with me fine...but, keep it civil.

@REInvestingTiger I'll stick with StatTiger's 7-3 when we're ranked in the top ten, which is rather important since all of those are by definition "big games". Just for giggles, 9-20 is a long, long way and much better than that other-worldly 3-11 you posted. Again, 3-11 on what planet?

Yep, they aren't going to get personal foul penalties or dropping kicks. We are going to have to earn it.

The mere fact that Georgia players were trying to fight us Just tells me how frustrated we made them. Pure beat down!

Can you name a replacement? It must be a coach that might be willing to come here, has five or more years experience at a power 5 school and holds a better winning percentage than Gus. Otherwise, we would be stepping into unknown waters.

I thought it was just their culture. I can remember several years where they won and still took cheap shots.

The only way that Gus is going to leave is if he wants to leave to go to Arkansas. He may very well decide that AU is too difficult of a job and jump ship. I don't think that is his MO but maybe it is. It would be home and a lot less pressure. Plus I am sure they would pay him well.

But right now I think he has more important things on his mind.

I agree that he has other things on his mind. In fact my guess is this is vintage agent/pay raise stuff. It’s interesting to me that everyone is talking about how the Arky job is less pressure, while they are in the process of firing their third coach in 10 years. Pressure is everywhere in college football. The expectations were set unrealistically high for Bert because he had won a Rose Bowl. Imagine what they will be for a guy who has an SEC title and played for a National Championship. And Gus would be going there with a depleted roster, and minus Steele, Garner, TWill, Stidham, KJ, etc... None of this makes sense.

I think we could take our pick. I'm huge fan of Scott Frost if we outbid Nebraska. I like Dino Babers as well. I like Vtechs coach. But that's not the point.....Im just saying, just because he finally beat Georgia just doesn't fix things over night.  He helped him self alot. We all saw what we are capable of, and if we aren't living up to that potential then there's something wrong. And that probably on the Head Coach. I think we can live up to our potential but to give this guy a raise or whatever because he finally beat Georgia is reactionary. SEC champ or bust IMO. I'm not satisfied and Auburn fans shouldn't be satisfied with just beating Georgia with what we saw. That being said ...'I like where we are at'

Scott Frost: 15-7 record at a lightweight school and that's all of it. He's probably qualified to be Gus's OC should Lindsey leave but that's Frost's limit at this stage of his career.

I read Frost's career record. 15-7 doesn't take a lot of candle burning. Guys keep coming up with replacement ideas, only the coaches they suggest don't have qualifications nearly as good as Malzahn's were when we hired him. I thought people were tired of providing OJT for head coaches?

I do agree that the UGA game was just one game. Also averaging 43.5 points over a 7 game SEC stretch is just one season. And being the head coach in 1/3 of all the national championship games Auburn has been in over the last 60 years is just one game.

And, and, and,..... I think a lot of Auburn fans don't appreciate what we've got.

Easy. Steele or Chip. The further Gus gets from this program the better.

I'm sorry but a Georgia win once every four years does not satisfy me....Prior to this year he reeked of mediocrity. We aren't Mediocre and going 8-5 isn't a successful year imo.. Does he get another year, sure... Ptb Don't have balls. But he's still has alot to prove. He needs a philosophy change and I just don't see that happening. By the way every team in the SEC this year besides Georgia...sucks this year

Considering the very similar beating that Notre Dame received, I think Georgia had not really been consistently challenged on the line, or challenged on the road.  Jordan-Hare was rocking.  They were getting beaten out there, and I think it got in their heads.  Auburn's two road losses probably helped Auburn more than any of their steamrolling wins helped Georgia.

Curious, what do you base that on? Only a small percentage of teams ever get their first choice in a coaching hire. Same for second choices. I’m not trying to debate whether to fire or not fire our coach, but I’ve seen an awful lot of coaching searches for huge programs, and most end the hiring of the third, fourth, or fifth choice. Most of the “top tier” candidates are only working you to get a pay raise to stay where they are. Firing Butch Jones at UT is a justified firing. Firing Gus is not nearly as cut and dried in my opinion, especially in a season where we are no worse than 9-3 and 6-2 in the SEC.

Recommending a coach with a 15-7 record at a minor league school is your solution? Got it!

No. The challenge was to identify a coach that would come here and has better credentials as a head coach than Gus. Take a trip back to the drawing board.

We aren't firing Gus. Auburn is too giddy about beating Georgia.
