ellitor 33,038
Quote Elite Corner target sets Auburn official visit thanks to recent push from Tigers Auburn will host Kelvin Joseph on an official visit. Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country Benjamin Wolk SAN ANTONIO — As Auburn searches for defensive backs to fill out the class, Kelvin Joseph is the new starting point. Joseph and the Tigers haven’t been linked much throughout his recruitment. He was committed to LSU for 18 months before de-committing. Even then, it was Alabama that garnered the most attention and likely possibility to lure him away from home-state Louisiana. After the Louisiana-Monroe game, SEC Country reported Auburn would start to push for Joseph. Very little materialized publicly after that, but Joseph confirmed Monday that Auburn has picked up its communication heavily of late. “They started recruiting me later on right before the early signing period. They’re recruiting me hard, maybe harder than others,” Joseph said. “It was out of nowhere. Coach just hit me up and stopped by my school and my house.” Auburn will host former LSU commit Kelvin Joseph on an official visit. (Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country) Tight ends coach Larry Porter joined the staff as a potential asset for recruiting the Bayou State. Joseph is a perfect example of that. Porter’s familiarity with the Louisiana recruiting territory helped Auburn work its way into Joseph’s recruitment along with LSU and Alabama — the two favorites — as well as Florida State. After the SEC Championship Game, Porter went by Joseph’s school in Baton Rouge and visited him in-home. Joseph has been impressed by his early conversations with Porter. “Coach [Larry] Porter, he’s just kept on me more as a person than just being an athlete. He’s not even talking that much about football,” Joseph said. With that said, the Tigers have a lot of work to do. For starters, Joseph has never visited Auburn and has been to LSU and Alabama regularly. That’s going to change before National Signing Day when Joseph takes his official visit to Auburn the last weekend on Feb. 2. An official visit date is a good place to start, but as SEC Country reported earlier, Joseph is flirting with the possibility of committing sooner rather than later. That would be negative sign for Auburn. So what gives Auburn a realistic shot? According to Joseph, it’s one clear advantage. “They have need at the position. I’ll admit that’s a big factor right there,” he said.

ellitor 33,038
Good news for AU, Bama, & FSU... Quote 4-star DB Kelvin Joseph reveals timeline for commitment Kelvin Joseph will commit on signing day. Sam Spiegelman/SEC Country Sam Spiegelmam Posted 1 min ago SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Kelvin Joseph had flirted with the idea of committing at the end of the week during the nationally televised U.S. Army All-American Game. After toying with that possibility, the 4-star Baton Rouge defensive back has opted to wait until National Signing Day on Feb. 7 to reveal his college decision. LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Florida State remain the finalists for the 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety, with visits to all three SEC West schools scheduled in the next few weeks. “I’m just going to wait until signing day,” Joseph told SEC Country on Thursday during Army Game practice in San Antonio, Texas. “I’m just going to wait to see how everything goes with all of the coaching switches and all that.” On Wednesday evening, LSU retained defensive coordinator Dave Aranda with a four-year, $10 million contract extension. Joseph visits LSU on Jan. 20, Alabama on Jan. 27 and Auburn on Feb. 2. He officially visited Florida State back in October.

In the recruiting industry "committed" doesn't mean what it means in the rest of the world. In recruiting land "committed" means today's favorite, nothing more. In this guy's case, I do think the odds of us flipping a guy from Baton Rouge away from LSU are slim to none. I'd save the money it will cost to bring him here and spend it on snacks at a basketball game, but the coaches know more about their business than I do. It would be different if he had not committed about a month before NSD. However, this just seems like a free trip for this dude.

Weird coming from me, one that has been pretty critical of some of our coaches, but we have to trust them to use official visits intelligently. I doubt they would waste their time if they didn't think there was at least a chance. Also to consider, the all star games will pressure kids to commit during the televised game to boost viewership. It could be that Joseph was pressured and was looking for attention and LSU was a safe commit at the time.

Not buying the safe commitment though. It's literally a month from NSD. I personally think he is a strong commit to LSU, but he let them know early he still will be utilizing his visits.
