GwillMac6 20,526
Going in to NSD week here is where our all our assistant coaches (minus the coordinators) stand in the 247 recruiter rankings. Obviously this is subject to change if we get more commits this week. Tim Horton at 255 nationally. https://247sports.com/Coach/Tim-Horton-277 MUHHH BOY! Greg "Goober!" Brown at 193 overall. https://247sports.com/Coach/Greg-Brown-159 Kodi Burns sitting at a cozy 145. https://247sports.com/Coach/Kodi-Burns-3780 MY Man Crush! The most underrated guy this cycle Larry Porter sits at 36. https://247sports.com/Coach/Larry-Porter-622 The ol wily vet. Mr consistent Rodney Garner is barely outside the top 20 at number 21. https://247sports.com/Coach/Larry-Porter-622 MUHHHHHHHH Other man crush. Our MVP this cycle and our rising suuuuuuuuuuuperstar Travis Williams comes in the top 10 at number 10 overall. https://247sports.com/Coach/Travis-Williams-1439 And just to see how he was doing before he left Herb Hand is at 81 overall and would of most likely rose as we were the favorite for Richard G and William Barnes was going to OV. https://247sports.com/Coach/Herb-Hand-

I feel his reputation is a lot better than his track record when it comes to recruiting. Especially recently. No one ever brings this up though. Yet they say Larry Porter is not holding up his end. LOL IDK how that narrative got started but it is def false. Like come on man. Greg Brown is beating you out horton!

That is the thing though. The perception is that he is a good recruiter. DELL MCGEE is what a stud recruiter looks like as far as rb coaches go. We need a stud recruiter at the RB coach position because with the gus system a lot of rb coaches would look good.I think Gus has one of the most rb friendly systems in the country. I am never worried about new rb's with him. We always find one each season who is really good.

Getting Bo Nix this early makes up for his 2018 class. WOOOOOOO!!!!!! Bo is everything.
doc4aday 1,887
I wish we could somehow down the not too distant road, get Dell McGee from UGA. He is an Auburn grad and the best recruiter in the land. He only makes $275,000.00. Give him a raise to lets say $425,000.00 and lock him up. I think he is a DB coach. If Brown retires soon, then Gus should go after McGee with an open pocket book! I see Nathaniel Watson is on a list of recruits we may try to flip from MSU. It looks like he could be a decent get. I think we are going to miss on some OL recs we thought we had a chance. If we got Chase and Watson, this would be ok. Caleb Johnson would be a nice get if we can make some last second movement to offer. Tannor is a big ????? He is still showing us as the highest school on his crystal ball on 247. I wonder if there are any OL recruits out there that we have as options in case all of the ones we have tried to get fall through. At this point, I would guess we will fill the last 2 or possibly 3 slots with whoever is still available that offer quality to this class. There are some fish out there, and out coaches need to sharpen their hooks and land us the best we can get at this point. I hope we have a good surprise or 2. Reality is Tannor is trending away from AU in a big way.

At this point it does not look like the staff sees much quality left in the class after Caleb Johnson. That's the drawback of the new ENSD. There's nowhere near the available prospects that could be flipped or taken as before. If the staff doesn't see quality options there's no point taking a guy the staff doesn't think can play SEC ball. Might as well save those 2-3 spots for 2019 kids or see if more quality Grad Transfers come available.

You are right about waiting till 2019. One question is.........do have a maximum of 25 players we can sign in a one year period? Maybe a surprise or 2 is out there. Outside of the coaching staff, do the guys doing the crystal contact the players to get their information, or do they speculate and come up with opinions on a player? What we can sign in 2019 depends on how many we take in 2018 and how much attrition we have going forward. 2 hours ago, doc4aday said: Outside of the coaching staff, do the guys doing the crystal contact the players to get their information, If they aren't a reporters for the teams involved in the recruitment then no, they rarely contact the recruits for info. That's why I only pay attention to predictions made by reporters covering the teams involved in the recruitment, & on occasion, a national reporter.
