Longwood at Auburn game 3

Longwood's lefty pitcher looking pretty good so far but AU got a runner on 2nd with no outs in the bottom of the third......  looks like Longwood was saving a pitcher for today and he's doing well thus far..

Tanner Burns looking good for AU....

Gabe looks a bit more aggressive than Sisson on base running.

Well....Connor Davis flares one to right near the line with 2 outs...runners off with the hit and nobody could get to it.  ....and two runs score to give Auburn the 2-0 lead.  Typical AU rally....hit, walk, single to left (runner out at the plate) and then Davis's hit to right to bring in the runs.

Auburn up 2-0 after 3.

Longwood up and down 1-2-3 and AU coming to bat.

Burns has some funky motions on the mound...quick pitch...or a hesitation motion ...and a 95mph fastball too.

So wonder when some "typical" baseball umpire will call him for a balk at a crucial moment.    Expect that Butch has gotten some approval from the conference office in advance so umps are ready for him.

And AU is up and down in order with a couple of Ks from the lefty who is giving our hitters a good variety of pitches to look at.

Still 2-0 going to the 5th

2nd time around for Longwood ...and they start the 5th with back to back singles to CF.....

And another single to right to load the bases......with no outs...

Burns still looking pretty good.....some good contact by the Longwood batters.....

Runner nailed at the plate, a liner back to Burns and an infield pop fly..... and Burns has gotten out the jam with no runs allowed......to keep the 2-0 lead.

Longwood loaded the bases with nobody out and Burns went to work.  Weak two hopper to second and Jarvis shows the big SS arm to get the runner at the plate.  That's a play a natural 2B doesn't even dare try.  This defense is going to win us some games this year.  Weak line drive back to the mound went from being a certain double up of the runner at third to a near disaster. Then Burns induces the weak pop up on the infield.  We might have one of the better starting three in the country folks.

AU leaves the bases loaded with 3-0 lead.....chance to break it open but Anthony hit a slow bouncer and was thrown out at first....

A solid 5 innings for Burns....just hoping the bull pen can keep things under control.

Meanwhile LSU and Miss State went a combined 1-5 over the weekend.

Watched some of the LSU -ND series.....they drew an average of 12,000 per game for that series....LSU baseball is a money making machine....at least for what is considered a non profit at most schools.

@GwillMac6 posted an article about Mississippi State preparing to fire HC Andy Cannizaro with cause.  Not sure why, but the OP got put in non-AU sports.

Butch Thompson is about to get a hefty raise at the very least, as I assume he will be MSU target 1A.
