We begin our part of the Nutter Classic Thursday at noon against Notre Dame, who played in our regional last year.  Yesterday they defeated #19 Michigan and #14 Minnesota.

In Hattiesburg, Baylor defeated Alabama 2-1, scoring both runs in the first inning.  Carlee Wallace drove in the two runs.  She's hitting .471 through 7 games.

First we play (Wednesday, Feb 21) CSUN Matadors in Northridge, CA which is about 140 miles west from the Cathedral City tournament site for the games Thursday through Saturday.  The Matadors are 4-6 which includes a loss to Oregon and a win over Stanford. They also had a 10-19 loss to Missouri which would have been exciting to watch if you like a lot of runs.   Their 2 primary pitchers are Troost and James with ERA's of 5.62 and 7.80.  Team batting average .313.  10 for 10 on stolen bases.  Auburn will be very busy flying out Tuesday to the west coast and playing Wednesday through Saturday.  That Saturday game is scheduled late...9:30 pm CT.

In looking through the Irish roster,I just noticed their best hitter last year was Morgan Reed from Maylene,AL. Played for Briarwood Christian. Hit .369 last year with 59 RBIs. She's a senior this year.

You won't see this in the al.com article about Bammer's loss to Baylor:

No. 11/12 Baylor softball (7-0) grabbed an early lead and never looked back, knocking off No. 9/9 Alabama, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

Gia Rodoni (4-0) continued exerting complete dominance over opposing batters, spinning a complete game, allowing just four hits and one run over the 7.0 innings. She piled up eight strikeouts and allowed only two walks in the winning effort.

Jessie Scroggins led the way for the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, facing two-time All-American pitcher Alexis Osorio.

The Baylor bats took the early lead, scoring the only two runs needed in the bottom of the first.

Scroggins led off with a double, with Kyla Walker following up with a walk.

Goose McGlaun moved them both into scoring position, leading into to a two-out at bat for Carlee Wallace.

The senior catcher dropped an infield single between the Bama shortstop and third baseman, with the ball taking a BU-friendly bounce and a kick out of reach, allowing both Scroggins and Walker to score on the play.

Carlee Wallace drove in both of Baylor's RBI, improving to 5-3 vs. Alabama over her four-year collegiate career (4-3 at Auburn, 1-0 at Baylor).
