WFE12 2,240 Report post Posted March 30 Quote Auburn visit ‘changes a lot about recruiting’ for standout defensive back Jaylin Simpson Jaylin Simpson made his first visit to Auburn this week. Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country Benjamin Wolk @benjaminwolk Posted 13 mins ago AUBURN, Ala. — Jaylin Simpson only needed one trip to Auburn to boost the Tigers up his list of favorites. The standout defensive back from Frederica Academy (Ga.) visited the Plains from Thursday to Friday. He was joined by his high school teammate Jashawn Sheffield who called the Tigers his No. 1 after the visit. Simpson isn’t listing any leaders right now, but Auburn certainly rose up his interest list following the initial trip. “This trip changes a lot about recruiting for me. I haven’t ever been to Auburn or anything. It definitely changed my mind about a lot of stuff,” Simpson said. “No leaders, but this is my first time coming here. I will say they have jumped somewhere up in the top 3. I don’t really have a specific group or order, but they’re up there.” Auburn, South Carolina, Miami, Georgia, Clemson and Ohio State are the main programs battling it out for Simpson. Most schools have told him cornerback or safety. During his Auburn visit, Simpson spoke primarily with safeties coach Greg Brown and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. He also spent some time with wide receivers coach Kodi Burns. The interactions with Brown and Steele indicate the Tigers’ interest in Simpson at safety, though Simpson said they told him they like his ability to play cornerback, too. Those conversations with coaches are what stood out to Simpson on the visit. “It was just the things that the coaches said. It was just — the stuff they said has been different than what everyone else is saying. I just feel like they’re more real,” Simpson said. “They talk about the real stuff, what they want from me in the future. It just sounds about right for me. They just don’t want me to make a decision that I don’t want to make, not force anything. They just told me they really want me, and they’ve got a plan for me and Jashawn.” Simpson isn’t in a rush to decide his college destination. The six schools listed previously are the programs most involved in his recruitment right now. He wants to make return trips to as many of those as possible before making a decision. Once he does that, he could commit in short order or he could wait it out until National Signing Day. It’ll depend heavily on how he feels on those follow-up visits. “I’m going to try to go to all of them. I’m definitely going to try to come back here as soon as I can,” Simpson said. “If I go to all of them, and I’m still not sure, I’m just going to wait it out until National Signing Day. If something stands out, I’ll just do it right there.”

toddc 307 Report post Posted April 14 Recruiter is Grimes! Wondering if he would get any credit for a commitment?

Grimes landing a top recruit for AU doesn't go with the narrative we've been asked to believe. If this one signs with AU it will be "because some other coach stepped in and saved the day." Book it! 2

The only 230 lb safety I know of is Kam Chancellor and he's 6'3. Eric Berry is the highest-paid safety in the NFL. He's 6'0, 212. Tray Matthews is probably the closest thing to a prototype safety we've had in a few years. 6'0, 207. 5'11 195 would be great. 230 would make him a middle linebacker.

doc4aday 815 Report post Posted April 16 I hope we can get him. Once players visit here, we tend to rise to the top of their choices. I think we will have another top 12 class for 2019. Anytime we have a top 12 or better class, we are doing fine. It seems we are bringing in players who can play early for us. This young man should play early in his career I would think.
