Softball vs. Tennessee - game 3

Recommended Posts

Shea bloops it up on the infield between pitcher/second/1st.   1st baseman hesitates, 2nd baseman breaks to cover 1st and the ball drops and Shea is at 1st with 1 out for Tannon Snow.

Fornis goes on the pitch, Snow pops it up in shallow right center.  2nd baseman goes back to field it, but it hits off her glove and drops.   Fornis breaks for 2nd, but throw is in time to get the force out at 2nd and that's unfortunate.     Snow is at 1st for Alyssa Rivera.

River flies to deep left center, caught on the edge of the warning track to end the 3rd.  Auburn leads 1-0

Was the ss even on the bag for the force throw?  Or did they call infield fly rule?

She was there covering the base.   Infield fly rule doesn't apply in that situation.  There was only a runner on 1st.

near disaster there, as the tennessee batter with a shallow pop up on the infield, Veach and Carlson both go to get it, Carlson pulls up, Veach diving attempt, ball drops...Shea picks it up and fires a rocket to 2nd to get the lead runner.   and a strikeout to end the top 4th.  1-0

great play by Shea....looked like the "walk-off" in the Astros game last night....20 foot pop up that nobody caught and runner scored from second.....strange things happen on a ball field

Veach sends one high and deep to to right but the right fielder goes up and makes the catch.    Didn't look like it was going to get out, but definitely a double at least taken away from Veach.

Dowell sends one deep to left, but caught on the warning track.  2 outs.   Morgan Podany coming up.

Podany lines one hard to 3rd but caught.   Auburn goes down in order but every ball was hit extremely well.  Auburn leads 1-0

that's three balls to the warning track, I believe.  Also on infield fly rule:  doesn't it apply any time there is a force play in effect?

NO.  Only applies when there are runners on 1st AND 2nd and less than 2 outs.   There was no runner on 2nd base when that pop up happened.

Draper with a high chopper over the head of the pitcher, 2nd baseman fields it, but throw not in time.     Taylon Snow coming up.

Snow with a hard shot to 1st, off the 1st basemans glove and into foul territory.  Draper rounds 2nd and takes 3rd when the throw gets away.  Runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs..   Casey McCrackin up.

McCrackin flies to deep right center.  Draper tags and scores, Maresette tags and takes 3rd.   Auburn leads 2-0.    Courtney Shea coming up. runner on 3rd and 1 out.   Shea lines one to center and its over the head of the center fielder and to the wall.  Maresette scores.   Shea stands up at 2nd.    3-0 TIGERS!!!!
