Baseball vs Vanderbilt game 2

Recommended Posts

Tigers take an early 2-0 lead on a 2 out 2RBI double by Estes in the first. Jarvis struck out a batter before him on called strike three at his neck.

Vandy gets one back on a solo shot to open the second inning.

AU jumps out to 2 run lead....Estes with a bases loaded double but Julien thrown out by 10 feet trying to score the 3rd run to end the inning. k So AU up after first inning.

And dang....Burns hangs a pitch (change up)  and Vandy immediately homers and the score is 2-1.

Wondering why Burns is throwing change ups already......looked good in the first inning with his FB......not a good pitch.

Next Vandy batter doubles down the line and Burns in trouble already.....

Son of a gun.....all of a sudden AU can't get anyone out and gonna have to "spend" Greenhill to try and hold what looked like a solid lead.

CBT let Burns talk him into pitching one batter too many......and ooops.....the wheels came off.   Anderson had been looking pretty good lately but today was definitely an off day for him....

It's interesting.....in the early season Auburn was prone to come from behind and score late. Now the tendency against tougher SEC pitching is to score early and hang on for dear life.

Estes can turn on the jets.....good job beating the throw!

That last run by AU was VERY nice to get...a little comfort factor..

Can't complain about a series win, but in a 4-game regional environment, to have any chance, Tanner's going to have to find a way to go 7-8 IP.  Greenhill has to be available for a Game 3 start in the postseason.

Greenhill does another nice job after a minor struggle. I really like how he fights even though he's a young guy.

Come on Auburn.....double digits!!

EA has been struggling since he took over Coker's prime bullpen spot (today really the first day it's hurt him on the scoreboard category in a bit), Coker hasn't done anything at all to retake it.  Leaves Greenhill as option number one and only out of the bullpen.  Hope to see one bullpen arm get hot before/during the SEC tournament but the options are minimal.  Maybe Welby does, or maybe Davis can reclaim a starter's spot for postseason, giving a fresh Mitchell out of the pen.

Meanwhile, bottom of the order continues to produce.  Jarvis, Estes, Anthony were a big part of helping the team bust out of that midseason slump and have kept the momentum going.  Really good to see from those three leaders who have been a big part of the resurgence of the program.

Ballgame.  Greenhill gets AU through the last 3.1  Auburn takes its first series from Vandy since 2009.  Improves to 33-14, 12-11 SEC.  Goes for the sweep tomorrow.  Little disappointed in this crowd today, especially with lots of people in town for graduation.  If you're within a drive of AU, try to get here tomorrow.  WDE
