Greene shook up Auburn's athletic department, firing six senior administrative staffers, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Among those let go were chief communications officer Ward Swift, senior associate athletic directors Bernard Hill and David Mines, senior women's administrator Meredith Jenkins and chief revenue officer Michael McBride, the source said. The longest tenured of those five was Jenkins, who started working at Auburn in July 1994. She spent 11 years in media relations and has been the SWA for the last several years. Jenkins was involved in the Auburn softball scandal last year, including instructing players to delete text messages obtained from a teammate's phone that proved an inappropriate relationships between a player and then-assistant coach Corey Myers, who resigned that same day, March 30, 2017. Clint Myers resigned in August amid a Title IX investigation into him and his son, Jenkins was not the softball administrator this past season and athletic director Jay Jacobs resigned in November. AuburnUndercover.com first reporter the firing of Swift, who worked at Auburn since Sept. 2013. An Auburn graduate, Swift oversaw communications, including sports information, video/photography, public relations, community relations, and digital media and also dealt with administrative and crisis communications, including the Auburn softball scandal. ADVERTISINGMines worked at Auburn since Sept. 2003 and oversaw men's and women's swimming and diving, volleyball, gymnastics, and men's golf. He also supervised the Olympic strength and conditioning program, was the liaison to the university for all athletics human resource issues and was the department's chief inclusion officer, a role he gained in Aug. 2016. Hill worked at Auburn since June 2006 and had oversight for equestrian, men's and women's tennis and track and field/cross country. While Hill is not a defendant in the case, his actions as an administrator are mentioned in the federal discrimination lawsuit of former Auburn assistant track coach Adrian Ghioroaie, who is seeking compensatory damages from Auburn for discrimination and retaliation and compensatory and punitive damages from assistant track coach Henry Rolle and head track coach Ralph Spry. The case is set for trial in Nov. 2019. Both Mines and Hill earned Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees from Auburn. McBride joined Auburn last September, the last major hire by Jacobs, and was involved in several of the department's major business deals. He was previously a member of Under Armour's sports marketing team, which he joined in 2009, and was involved in negotiating several sponsorship deals with the apparel provider. Yep....but looking at the job descriptions....looks to me like a downsizing of the department and hard to see how losing any of these folks would affect the performance of any of the teams they are involved with.....all seemed to be in the business end of the Athletic Department. Mikey 16,466
For years we've heard how bloated the department had become. Somehow, the number 23 Assistant AD's comes to mind. Maybe this is the start of a leaner, more efficient department. Also worth noting, every higher-up connected to the softball situation is gone.
