Who needs Texas when Georgia's next door?

Why leave out one of the richest states in talent in the country?

You do realize how big hs football is in Texas don’t you! We definitely need to get in there big time. We’re still going to recruit Georgia hard as always! A lot of highly rated kids come from Texas that can play big boy sec football!

Distance comes to mind. Yes, we can pull a player or two from Texas most years for various reasons but I don't think a full-scale recruiting attack out there will be time well spent. We can get one or two by careful evaluation of an individual's situation but it's never going to be truckloads.

On the other hand, Alabama, Georgia and Florida are right here where we live. The bulk of our recruiting will always need to come from these three states.

At the moment no we don't with all due respect. Little return on investment right now given we aren't a national brand making the playoffs every year. Also Texas isn't even #1 for high school talent any more. Florida is & Georgia is nipping at Texas's heels for the #2 spot.

A suggestion that we don't need to cultivate recruiting pipelines to Texas talent because we already have them elsewhere is odd. Signing Texas talent could be a bigger move for us than just one player if he ends up becoming nationally known for all the right reasons at Auburn. Texas has Florida-like quantities of blue chip high school talent.

This. Put some feelers out for some guys in Texas that are needs. If you get the positive feedback, like Curry, recruit them.

IMO, the talent is Texas is second rate to the talent in the South East. (Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida) Hate to use this as an example but you don't see Saban making Texas a priority.

Would be a hard return on investment right now without AU consistently making the playoffs. You put out feelers & cherry pick as WDE just said.

With the guys on both sides on the line, it isn't even close. Skill players? I'd say even.

Jimbo recruiting Texas. Will be interesting to watch. I don't see it.

I disagree the difference is the number of instate schools, the Oklahoma Schools and even some Arkansas and LSU getting players from Texas. Huge numbers of talented players but spread among a lot of schools. If somebody Like Jimbo could get the cream off the Top instead of spreading across so many schools They would be a powerhouse.

100% agree.  Champions come from the southeast.

Well he does coach out there so it makes sense why the talent is second rated. Bad bad coaching. Just pray he doesn't move to the southeast and bring that areas talent down as well.

Yeah, I overstated my position with “big time “, but I agree with others about cherry picking!

Top 5 states with players in NFL

California    300

Florida         266

Texas           256

Georgia       143

Ohio            116

As you can see Texas has put a lot more people in the league than Georgia and is only ten behind Florida.  It is a combination of population, weather, coaching and the resources individual programs put into football.  I live in Allen, Tx. You all have read about the $60 million football stadium it has an underground wrestling facility, Indoor track and out door track and golf driving range and weight lifting facility. In addition we have the old HS stadium used by 9th grade team. Indoor Practice Facility that includes another weight lifting facility, the original weight lifting facility at the 9th grade school a couple of outdoor HS practice facilities. Every Jr High has a football field and weight lifting gym.  Since we built our stadium there are at least 3 different HS stadiums bigger and more expensive in Texas.

That's great & all but we aren't talking about or playing pro football though. We are playing & talking about college football & it been a long time since a Texas school has been a major team threat even with U-Tex getting the cream of their in state crop still in most years. Texas is Bad Ass for pro ball no doubt but as it pertains to college ball I agree with WDE in that it's overrated.

Is that the $60 million stadium that also made nation news for being shut down one year after opening for structural cracks?

Also what is the Polulation ration of California and players to Georgia and players?

When you consider population, the number of players in the NFL per capita speaks to Texas being behind, but not as far as California...

Florida  1.36 players per every 100,000 people
Ohio 1.24 players per every 100,000 people
Georgia  1.16 players per every 100,000 people
Texas  0.97 players per every 100,000 people
California  0.78 players per every 100,000 people

Allen’s Eagle Stadium Is Set To Officially Reopen On Friday

The most expensive high school football stadium in the world gets a triumphant return after its embarrassing closure in 2014.

The story of Allen’s Eagle Stadium has been one of excess and prosperity, disappointment and schadenfreude. The most expensive high school stadium in the world opened in 2012 with no small amount of fanfare. But haters got an opportunity to indulge in some mean-spirited snark when the $60 million facility was forced to close in 2014 due to structural problems and cracks in the foundation. Suddenly, the pride of Allen—with its high-def Jumbotron, upper-deck seating, and Chick-Fil-A and BBQ vendors—was the city’s giant embarrassment.
