ESPN and the Tampa Bay Times are reporting the suspension is related to an incident in March 2016 in which Winston allegedly groped an Uber driver. According to a story published last November by BuzzFeed News, the driver said Winston grabbed her crotch while they were sitting at the drive-through window of a Mexican restaurant in Scottsdale, Ariz. Although she didn't go to police, she filed a complaint with Uber. Uber issued a statement in November after the initial story was published: "The behavior the driver reported is disturbing and wrong. The rider was permanently removed from the app shortly after we learned of the incident." Winston denied the allegations: "The accusation is false, and given the nature of the allegation and increased awareness and consideration of these types of matters, I am addressing this false report immediately." After an eight-month investigation by the NFL, the Times reports a suspension could be announced as early as Friday. There were questions about Winston's character during his college career at Florida State, where he was accused of rape by a female student in 2012. No charges were ever filed. Winston ended up being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft. In his third NFL season, he threw for 3,504 yards and 19 touchdowns as the Bucs went 5-11 last year. The Buccaneers' first three games this season, which Winston would miss under the suspension, are the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at New Orleans, a Sept. 16 home date vs. the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and a Monday night home game Sept. 24 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would also lose $124,000 of his base salary for this season of $705,

I gave Winston every benefit of the doubt in 2013 because of that. Unfortunately, he made such an @$$ of himsef that I now hate him (Jimbo even more so). aubiefifty 16,697
Sports NFL officially announces 3-game suspension for Jameis Winston; QB apologizes to Uber driver, fans Updated Jun 28, 1:37 PM; Posted Jun 28, 1:30 PM Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, shown here against Carolina in 2017, has been suspended for the first three games of the 2018 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images) By Creg Stephenson cstephenson@al.com The NFL on Thursday officially suspended Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston for the first three games of the 2018 season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Winston, a Bessemer native and former Hueytown High School star, was accused of groping a female Uber driver during a March 2016 incident in Scottsdale, Arizona. The driver did not file criminal charges against Winston, but he was later banned from using the automobile ride-sharing service. According to a statement announcing the suspension, the NFL found the driver's account of the incident was "consistent and credible" and deemed that "disciplinary action was necessary and appropriate." Winston has accepted the suspension and will not appeal. Winston will miss the Buccaneers' Sept. 9 season-opener at New Orleans, in addition to home games against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He will be eligible to return to the lineup for the Sept. 30 game at Chicago. The 24-year-old Winston is also required to undergo a clinical evaluation and abide by any recommended treatment program deemed necessary. He is permitted to participate in all preseason activities, including exhibition games. Winston issued the following statement: "The NFL informed me today that I will be suspended for the first three games of the season. First and foremost, I would like to say I'm sorry to the Uber driver for the position I put you in. It is uncharacteristic of me and I genuinely apologize. In the past 2 1/2 years my life has been filled with experiences, opportunities and events that have helped me grow, mature and learn, including the fact that I have eliminated alcohol from my life. "I know I have to hold myself to a higher standard on and off the field and that I have a responsibility to my family, community, and teammates to live above the platform with which God has blessed me. I apologize to my teammates, the Buccaneers' organization and fans for letting them down and for not being able to be out there for the first three games of the season. Although I am disappointed in the NFL's decision, I understand the NFL's process, and I embrace this as an opportunity to take advantage of the resources available to help me achieve the goals that I have for myself. "I now look forward to putting this behind me and I will continue to work hard every day to be a positive influence in my community and be the best person, teammate and leader I can be." The Tampa Bay Buccaneers issued the following statement: "All members of our organization are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Personal Conduct Policy of the NFL. We are disappointed that Jameis put himself in a position that has been found to violate the policy and accept today's decision by the Commissioner." Winston won the Heisman Trophy at Florida State in 2013, when he led the Seminoles to the BCS national championship. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, and has started 45 of a possible 48 games in three seasons with the Buccaneers. Winston had a number of high-profile incidents during his career at Florida State, including when he was accused of sexual assault by a fellow student in 2012. Winston was never charged in the incident and was cleared of wrongdoing in a university disciplinary hearing, though the school later paid $950,000 to settle a Title IX lawsuit brought on by his accuser. Sadly, their feelings reveal a lot about the priorities in our society these days. You have homeless people living in the streets in every major city, and citizens are actually voting to approve an extra tax in many of them to pay for a new professional sports stadium. I'll just let that one lay here for a while.
CR 2,427
NFL owners will employ players who abuse women but draw the line at players who kneel for the anthem. Tells you a lot about that group. And if any women see Winston and Ronald Darby approaching I would run, not walk, the other direction as quickly as possible. Winston has proven himself to be a sexual predator and Darby sure has a way of being right in the thick of things when Winston abuses women.
