Trump's inability to not be an a**hole

I guess author Evan Sayet captured my feelings best. He wrote  "My leftist friends  ask me if I'm not bothered by Trump's lack of decorum and if I don't think some of his his coments are are beneath the dignity of the office. My answer.....I wish we lived in a time when our Pres.  could be collegial, dignified, and  and proper. Of course  I do. But these aren't those times. This is war. And it's a war that the left  has been fighting without much opposition  for the last 50 years. So say anything you want about this Pres.--I get it-- he can be vulgar, crude and undignified at times. I don't care. He fights for America."

That pretty well summarizes my feelings.  I care for you, Dubs, elle, and all the other haters here. I'm 80 years old  and likely won't see the outcome of this war. But I sincerely wish the best for my family and everyone else's here.

What are the battle lines in the war you perceive ?

The extremists on both sides and unfortunately when push comes to shove it's liberals vs. conservatives. Have you ever read the Communist Manifesto on how to take over a country or the approach of Nazi Germany Minister of Info Joseph Goebbels?

What war is being waged by the “left” in this country as you see it?

He's destroying America you dumb ****.

He's trying to reduce us to the most basic, vile instincts. The whole 'America as exceptional' has always been a myth, but such myths are still better than not having one, at least as an aspiration.  Our myth - if not our reality - was at least exemplary  to the world.

Trump disregards that myth.  Hell, he would destroy that myth.  He considers it a weakness.

Wow, pure bull**** Homey, even for you.   I'd recommend you read some history and get out of the country for a while.  America is the only nation in the history of human kind created on the ideal that man has inherent rights that can't be taken away or abridged by the state, a distant overlord or some envious a**hole politician and his minions that are jealous of what someone has done and thinks they have a right to it....and put the institutions in place to secure those inalienable rights.   American ideals, actions and sacrifices have raised more people out of poverty, freed more people and been responsible for an economic, scientific, agricultural miracle that has elevated the standard of living for the planet.  No other nation has sent its young men and women to distant lands to fight and die for nothing other than the freedom of the people living and being oppressed there....more than once.  We've even garrisoned the globe for the last 75 years to ensure that the evil that tried to overrun the world and murdered 100m people in the name of communism, facism, and any other 'ism  built off the belief "you can't trust the people with their own destiny"  wouldn't be able to do it again.  And you say we aren't exceptional?  Why it is that the crowd leading the charge of the "America isn't exceptional" are generally the pajama boys and ***** hat wearers who've done the least to protect it and support it....made the fewest sacrifices and benefitted most from it's exceptionalism...and forgot/ignored the sacrifices it took to provide that exceptionalism.

Homey, Trump isn't destroying the nation...he's destroying the Democrat party.   Well, actually, he's enabling the Democrat party to destroy itself.  His great contribution is allowing you ass clowns to expose yourself for what you really are.  When the best platform you have is envy and fecklessness and you're ideals are encapsulated in a deceitful word play that really means "let's murder 1m babies every year because my right to consequence-less **** anything at anytime outweighs the rights of a human being that can't speak for itself"; and your party leader says the new face of your party is a priviliged little dilettante socialist who carried a handful of apartment buildings in the Bronx that's about as genuine as Elizabeth Warren is Indian; I think you've got to take a long look in the mirror at how you are approaching your beliefs..

Maybe you ought to get out of the country and go spend some time in the other 90% of the world that passes for civilization.  Then maybe, just maybe, you'd get a first hand look at what those like you that critisize American exceptionalism deliver to their citizens...it ain't pretty.

And hey, how about that latest jobs report......

Wow, now that's a spittle spraying rant.  Came right from the core, huh?

And regarding how we have sacrificed for the free world, maybe you need to tutor Trump.  He's a bit confused about who are our friends and who are our enemies.

American exceptionalism is more myth than fact.  It's a good myth and one we need to aspire to, but it's not really reflected by our history.  For every example of altruism I can cite multiple examples of greed and dominance.  We would do well to recognize that.  Myth has it's place, but it shouldn't paper over reality.  You are the one who needs to read a little history.

Regardless, Trump is attacking that myth.  And the Republicans are enabling him.  Particularly when it comes to your "agricultural, scientific and economic miracles", which weren't "miracles" at all.  Those accomplishments were the direct result of scientific research and investment.  I know because I played a modest role in them.

And the idea we have "garrisoned the world" solely for the benefit of others is naive to the extreme.  How do you resolve such an absurd belief with our pulling out of the Paris accords (for example).

Your delusion about Trump and what he stands for is more delusional than PT.  And that's saying something.

Oh Homey, I never cease to be amazed at how you particularly; and liberal ass clowns in general; can look at history, and every time; 100% of the time; without exception; draw the 180 degree wrong conclusion and inference to be gained from it.  Greed, envy, dominance, murder, despotism, war, pestilence (the list goes on), savagery, usery, plunder are human nature Homey.  That is the norm ... that is the human condition that any government or society founded by men will visit on it’s unfortunate citizens left to its own devices.

The inherent exceptionalism that is uniquely America, is that our founding documents rejected that we had to have a culture and a government that gave into history and human nature.  We don't fail at being exceptional because we sometimes fail to live up to our ideals....we are exceptional because the vast majority of the time we do live up to our ideals.  No other nation founded by men in the roughly 10,000 years that defines "civilization" can make that claim.  No other nation on earth has ever been founded on the principle that men have inherent rights; and that those rights come from God and cannot be taken away by other men....and the vast majority of the time we see that thru to reality.  Look at our history...it is a history achieving our lofty; unattainable, inhuman, inalienable, exceptional goals and ideals.  That exceptionalism has been a beacon of hope for the world and has created freedom and prosperity for more people than at any time in earth’s history.

When we have failed; we are also the only society on earth that actually works to rectify our failings.  Slavery was a great evil...but we are also the only nation on earth where millions of men of one race fought and died by the hundreds of thousands to free men of another race and rectify that evil.    No other nation or society in history has made that sacrifice when it realized it could no longer abide by failing to live up to its goals.  That is truly exceptional.

When evil tried to overrun the earth in the last century; our men and women died by the hundreds of thousands to rectify that evil...we could have very easily stayed where we were and let the rest of the world burn....but we did not...that is the history of our nation; and of my family from the founding.    And it is no surprise that the parts of the world that have shared in our prosperity and freedoms since that time; are the nations that we either came to defend; or the nations we conquered, and taught what freedom and prosperity is; and “exceptionally” provided a shield for them to grow and develop those freedoms for the last 75 years.   And sometimes we have overstepped our bounds in applying that shield.  That is called being human....but that makes us no less exceptional....exceptional doesn't mean perfect...to be human is to be imperfect and sometimes to fall short of our ideals.

I am quite sure we will make more mistakes and fall short of our ideals...we are after all, human.  But as long as we never forget that our great pursuit is in ensuring every man has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness....and that our constitution is there to provide that shield between every man and the inherent nature of governments created by men; that is, as long as it stands between free men and other men's rapacious human nature; then we will continue to be exceptional.   I pity anyone who doesn't either understand or appreciate how truly exceptional we are as a nation or people.  As Lincoln said in 1862; and it is still true today…we remain the "last best hope"   ... thank God he and some others have understood this.

As to some of your other claims regarding Trump...being exceptional doesn't equate to being a patsy.  We didn't transform Europe and Japan thru our ignorant benevolence.  We transformed them by force and force of will.  We rejected bankrupt notions and histories and replaced them with new ones.  We demanded their compliance in turn for our support….and we garrisoned them to ensure they complied at first and then simply because it served our interests.  What was left behind in DE was, for the 1st time, a liberal democratic government and new culture that rejected their historical militarism and despotic institutions.   Not a bad day's work....or in this case, 70 years.  What is happening today is no different.  When other nations view our treasure as their birthright; and they profess no accountability or responsibility to the citizens of this nation; their benefactors; then that has to be corrected.

They are entitled, petulant children who are too far removed from their troubled past to remember how they came to be so blessed and fortunate.  This great imbalance has to be corrected.  My family; and many American families’ histories, are of sacrificing for an ungrateful Europe that has viewed our treasure, our families and our money as their security blanket and piggy bank.  That is just wrong...and what's more; to continue it is just stupid....that threat and that requirement have long since passed.  With today’s capabilities, there are other locations that will serve our interests at lower costs; and it’s well past time for the Europeans to grow up and defend themselves.

As to your absurd claim on the Paris Climate accord...good lord.  You are a cartoon character...Captain Planet had more common sense than you.  Talk about a non sequitor ... but since you put it out there....The Paris Climate accord solved nothing (according to it's own authors), retarded the growth of our economy and industries and systematically looted the US taxpayer in favor of a unicorn.  How are you guys so lacking in common sense you think it is a good idea that the President is allowed to enter us into an agreement that destroys our industries and ships Trillions of $$ of GDP to China and other nations without getting Congress's approval...you know, that annoying requirement in the Constitution to make treaties that requires advice and consent.   There's a reason our great socialist President didn't carry it to Congress....because even a democrat congress wouldn't approve it.  That agreement was exceptional in only one regard; it was exceptionally stupid.

Grow up Homey...your too damn old form your world views like a 13 year old girl...learn how to lose.  On 2nd thought, don't.  I quite prefer you guys absolutely deranged.  It's just too much fun watching your guys self destruct.

I guess you're going to be watching TV tomorrow night to see the next Supreme Court Justice announced.....

Damn, but you've gotten verbose.  Don't know if I have time to respond to everything but I'll take the most obvious first.

The Paris accords didn't bind us to anything.  All of the goals proposed by each country were voluntary.  (Which is why - as you correctly point out - they weren't going to change anything.)

What they did do was to establish a global bureaucratic forum to (eventually) address a global problem, hopefully in a significant way.  Dropping out simply indicated that we as a country do not recognize the problem.

Presumably, you are OK with that, as evidenced by your "unicorn" crack.

I am not about to try to educate you to the reality.  It would be an exercise in futility.  I'll just leave it to time.  (Be sure to let your grandkids know your position on this.  They'll need something to remember you by.)

A few points....:

  • as to the number of words I used; about 1,000; and they are all mine....every damn one of them are mine and they come from the heart...my red, white and blue, America lovin, Semper Fi shouting, God fearing, family lovin', flag waving, standin' and saluting, heart....or said another way...not the words copied and parroted from a 10,000 word tome like Vox or Salon or other pajama boy writer forum
  • As to the enforcement mechanism's of the Climate agreement...and this is what ultimately led the State Dept to recommend getting out...
    • we were on the hook for the majority of the $100b annual "developed country" commitment required after 2020....
    • domestically, thru Obama executive and EPA policy actions, we were committed  to cutting greenhouse gas emissions at least 26 percent below 2005 levels by 2025. This was driving ruinous limits on power plants and auto emissions....he was basically trying to kill fossil fuels, thus increasing energy costs and destroying entire industries (see coal industry) .. ..all without congressional vote and ratification
    • also, given that the prior position had tied the agreement to a prior UN Climate agreement from 1992; by not cancelling the agreement, we would be open to litigation under the terms of the prior agreement....this is a favorite of the UN and shyster lawyers the world over.
  • As for ""global bureaucratic forum" ... is that supposed to be a good thing?  The last time I checked, the Constitution doesn't say a damn thing about ceding authority to "global bureaucratic forums". ... you guys just can't get the concept of self determination and sovereignty down can you...the President submits treaties for the advice and consent of the senate...if it doesn't meet that threshold, it's bull****

1. We weren't "on the hook" for anything.  All of the goals were voluntary and we specified them, they weren't imposed on us.

If you want to argue that those goals were too ambitious, that's a different subject. (But I would point out that any goal would be too ambitious to someone who rejects the science to begin with.)

Regardless, we didn't have to walk out of the organization.  That simply tells the world we don't believe there is a problem. (Fortunately, I think that the rest of the educated world don't really think we are crazy, they think Trump is crazy.  They undoubtedly expect us to do a quick 180 as soon as we dump this idiot.  And they are right.

2. Yes, if we are dealing with a global problem a "global bureaucratic forum" is not only a good thing, it's a necessary thing.  Even though we actually created the bulk of the problem, it will take every country on the globe to solve it.

You sound like someone who rejects the very proposition that we can have a global problem, which is ignorant at best and just flat out stupid at worse.

Funny, just dropped the whole "exceptional" argument, huh.  Thanks for conceding....

What could possibly go wrong with a global bureaucratic forum...hhhmmm....isn't the UN Human Rights council, lead by the greatest violators of human rights on the planet, a global bureaucratic forum?....oh man, we're not Latvia Homey....we can just handle our own affairs ...

I stand by the OP that exposes the lie about American Exceptionalism.  You cough up a given example of that mythical exceptionalism and I give you plenty of reasons why you are wrong.

And like I said, you cannot address global problems where every country is both victim and perpetrator without a forum that includes everyone.  If you have a hangup over the term "bureaucracy" that's your problem.

But you didn't answer my question.  If you reject the idea that AGW is a problem, I am wasting my time talking to you, at least regarding that particular subject.
