Zero 1st team DL? That's credible.

I guess in some ways it's more than the sum of its parts, but we may very well have the best DL unit in the SEC.

Whatever.

Isn't Mr. McElroy (ESPN) considered all smart and stuff (like Rhodes finalist or something)?

He thinks

' “If you look at this defensive line, which is the backbone of this team, it’s the second-best in college football,” the former Alabama quarterback said on ESPN’s Inside College Football. “The best being Clemson, and no one is close to them. Auburn might be the closest, though. When you look at the guys they have, versatility, size, Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson. Dontavius Russell is so underrated. This is a really good looking defensive front, and they have a returning quarterback.” '

1. Nobody on 1st team DL? I think Derrick Brown should’ve replaced Raekwon Davis. The SEC is very deep on the DL though.

2. Surprised UK Josh Allen wasn’t a first team LB next to Devin White.

3. Think Bama’s Thompson could’ve been replaced by any DB on the second team.

Overall, our guys went about where I would’ve thought right now BUT Kam Martin will finish the year as a top 5 back for sure. Somewhat pleasantly surprised to see an Auburn OL picked at all. Unproven Bama players valued a little too highly as usual.

When the boss over there stops averaging a national title every other year- going on a decade now- that will stop happening. Until then, though, I'm not going to argue with it.

Pretty convenient for them that this list comes out right as the dead period is wrapping up.

Media perception matters. Hope we keep improving ours.

Surprised that many of the media are on the South Carolina bandwagon to finish 2nd.  I agree with the selection, but didn't think they would be media darlings there.

Overall about what you can expect based on who the media knows with the exception of AU having no 1st teamer on Defense.  That is ludicrous.  I do anticipate we will finish the year with more offensive guys on the ballot than what is shown here.  Maybe our specialists will show up too as freshmen after all is said and done.

I get that, but a guy who didn’t start last year as an All-SEC first teamer? The secondary is about the only place on the roster where I don’t think a Bama player is worthy of being selected over others.

And yeah with recruiting season virtually being moved up 3 months with the early signing day, these preseason ballots carry a little more weight than they used to for recruiting.

Only sort'a relevant, but

SI has just seen value in releasing a "Ranking the SEC's Best Non-Alabama College Football Playoff Contenders" article.[highlight mine]

Victors, spoils, etc. It's not fair or right, for sure.

Media heads are really talking up Miss state's d line even saying it's 2nd best in the nation.

Where? Even Greg McElroy said ours was the best in the SEC and 2nd best in the nation behind Clemson

Is Tennessee going to be worse than Missouri and Kentucky? Pruitt's shady but I'm curious to see what kind of HC he is.
LSU 5th in the West? Seems possible but Orgeron's in trouble if that happens.
Is Miss St going to live up to their hype? No idea what to expect from Moorhead.

Pains me to say, but hard to argue against picking Bama and UGA to finish 1st in their respective divisions.

I think Miss St’s starting DL is extremely good; Simmons and Sweat are as good as they come. But their depth is below average, so I’m not sure how the unit as a whole will produce.

I’m actually pretty excited to see Clemson’s DL play this year now that we don’t have to play them in the regular season. Can’t recall a 4 man DL this good in a loooong time.

I may be in the minority, but I think Ole Miss will surprise a few teams this year.  They might not stop anyone, but Their O will be extremely dangerous.

I'll join this club before it becomes standing room only as I tend to agree?

Yep, going to really test Bama’s young DBs in week 3 in Oxford. Don’t know if I would say upset alert, but if Bama doesn’t have consistency at QB in their first true road game then they better watch out.

Auburn without a single player on the first team offense or defense?

The media just handed Auburn coaches the best motivational device they could have ever concocted.

PROVE THEM WRONG!

Hoping the anger surfaces for the UDub game.
