toddc 13,194
Quote Who could be next to commit? By Keith Niebuhr 114 minutes ago As you may have noticed, Auburn is on a bit of a recruiting roll right now. The 2020 class, ranked just 29th on June 1, is up to No. 7 after a monster summer that has included 12 new commitments. Even the 2021 (three commits this summer) and 2022 (one) classes have gotten into the act. Not that long ago, Auburn didn't appear to be in a very good spot. Now, things have changed. At nearly every position for the 2020 class, the Tigers either have met all their needs or are poised to do so. If there is one major concern, it's with the defensive line, where Auburn has but one commitment. History, though, tells us defensive line coach Rodney Garner is a strong closer. Can he do it again in this particular cycle? That remains to be seen. On offense, Auburn may only take one more commitment. That's how well things have gone of late. Most recently, the Tigers secured a commitment from 4-star running back Tank Bigsby of Hogansville (Ga.) Callaway last week. He's the highest-ranked prospect on the Auburn commit list. What does the future hold for the Tigers? And, who could be the next prospect to commit? Here are some possibilities ... *** Eric Shaw, ATH, Notasulga (Ala.) Reeltown COMMIT TIMEFRAME: He's announcing his decision at 2:15 p.m. CT Thursday. TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee 411: The 4-star athlete has one of the better frames in the 2020 class, but for Auburn the question always has been this: What position would he play? Is he a receiver? Tight end? Linebacker? Auburn likes him a lot but never really put the foot on the gas. We like South Carolina in this race. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Very low *** Ladarius Tennison, S, Rocklege COMMIT TIMEFRAME: Sept. 14, per sources TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Miami, North Carolina 411: The 4-star defender (who also was a 1,000-yard rusher last season) is one of Auburn's top overall targets. He's an extremely talented player at a position of great need -- nickel safety. Auburn took control of this recruitment this spring and solidified its status as the team to beat when he visited in late July. Miami, the program that once held his commitment, probably is his No. 2 program at this time. The Tigers are in a great spot. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Very high *** Jeremiah Pegues, TE, Oxford (Miss.) COMMIT TIMEFRAME: By mid-fall TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss 411: The 4-star tight end is one of Auburn's top remaining offensive targets and for good reason. He's a tight end who can line up in the backfield, attached to the line or out wide. Think of him as being a jumbo athlete who can do a little bit of everything. He's every bit of 6-feet-2.5, 260 pounds. Pegues says Alabama is his No. 2 but we think it probably will come down to Auburn and Ole Miss, which is only about a mile away from his school. Unless ... the Tide misses on a few tight end targets. If that happens, this could get really interesting. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: High *** BJ Ojulari, DE, Marietta (Ga.) COMMIT TIMEFRAME: Friday, 1:50 p.m. CT TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia LSU, Tennessee 411: It's really a three-team race for the 4-star defender between Auburn, LSU and Tennessee. His last known visit to Auburn came in the spring, but the staff continues to communicate daily with him, which has given it some hope. Meantime, the confidence level has been fairly high in Baton Rouge, La., the past few weeks. That said, Tennessee also thinks it is very much in it with a real chance -- something we've been reporting for a few weeks. LSU has been trending of late, but can Auburn or the Vols pull off a little bit of an upset? This last day should be interesting. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Medium. *** E.J. Williams, WR, Phenix City (Ala.) Central COMMIT TIMEFRAME: Aug. 24, 1 p.m. CT TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Clemson 411: Early in the summer of 2018, the 4-star receiver -- then a little-known recruit on the national level -- was close to committing to Auburn. But then Clemson ofered and that turned this recruitment around. His former teammate, receiver Justyn Ross, had a strong freshman year at Clemson and that also hurt Auburn. While Auburn stayed relevant in this recruitment until the very end because of the staff's great relationship with Williams, it wasn't enough. He's almost certainly going to pick Clemson. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Very low. *** Darnell Washington, TE, Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines COMMIT TIMEFRAME: TBD TOP SCHOOLS: Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Tennesse 411: Right now, it looks like an Alabama-Georgia battle for the 5-star recruit. But, he has visited Auburn multiple times and it seems as though he will give the Tigers a fair shake. At Auburn, there is a strong belief the Tigers are more of a factor than people think. We'll know for sure if that's true if Washington gives them an official visit. Right now, we're not loving Auburn's chances. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Low *** Brian George, CB, Highland Community College (Kan.) COMMIT TIMEFRAME: TBD -- but possibly soon TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Miami 411: When George, the No. 3 junior college cornerback in the industry generated 247Sports Composite, visited Auburn in late July, he said a commitment could come in the next week -- and it seemed as though Auburn was trending big. But ... he still hasn't announced and he has gone somewhat quiet with the media. Behind the scenes, Auburn seems to think it has a fairly good shot but is more cautiously optimistic than anything. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Medium *** Kendall Dennis, CB, Lakeland (Fla.) COMMIT TIMEFRAME: By early fall TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Florida, Miami, Tennessee 411: Dennis most recently visited Auburn the last week of July and that apparently went well. So much so that people around him think Auburn is the favorite. But there's a hitch ... how many corners will the Tigers take? If that number is two, that means Auburn has room for only one more. So, it may come down to who decides sooner -- George or Dennis. If George picks Auburn before Dennis announces, the spot might be gone. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Medium. *** Phillip Webb, OLB/Buck, Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier COMMIT TIMEFRAME: Sometime this fall TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Alabama, LSU and maybe Clemson 411: The top-50 recruit is one of Auburn's biggest overall targets -- and has been for some time. Earlier this summer, it looked like LSU might be close to landing him but that never came to fruition. Apparently, Auburn likes where it sits more now than just a couple months ago. He's also a major priority for Alabama and the Tide is very much in it. In fact, some of our sources think it could come down to Auburn and the Tide. The bottom line: Auburn is very much in this. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Medium. *** Andy Boykin, DE/DT, LaGrange (Ga.) Troup County 1COMMENTS COMMIT TIMEFRAME: Mid-fall TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Tennessee 411: A former Auburn commit, Boykin recently said the Tigers were back in front. But what we're trying to figure out is where Boykin, who said he wants to announce a decision Nov. 8, sits on the Auburn board. That's something we don't have an answer to right now. Should Auburn push, we feel strongly in saying Boykin is likely to be a Tiger. But will it push? Time will tell. CHANCE HE WILL COMMIT TO AUBURN: Medium. That being said, I think he's starting to fall off as a recruiter. He's pulled in some decent talent but not near enough of it and not anything approaching elite. I think he was elite for a portion of his career but I don't think anyone would be calling him elite now if he hadn't played at AU. We could find someone better as an overall evaluator/recruiter/developer. 2019 Class: No interior linemen, possibly one of the 2 commits grows into an inside linemen. 2 DL in a class is not cutting it either way. 0 WDE/Buck target SDE - Charles Moore - **** SDE - Jaren Handy - **** 2018 Class: Not an awful class but only 3 DL signed with only 1 WDE/Buck target. DT - Coynis Miller - **** DT - Daquan Newkirk (JUCO) - **** WDE/Buck - Caleb Johnson - *** 2017 Class: Signed 2 high potential WDE/Bucks, but only 1 DT once you factor in Jackson moving to OL because he didn't possess an SEC DT skillset. In effect only 3 DL signed. DT - Tyrone Truesdell - *** DT - Alec Jackson (moved to OL) - *** WDE/Buck - TD Moultry - **** WDE - BK Bryant - **** 2016 Class: Rodney's best class with a lot of interior talent. aujeff11 6,243
And just for the record, CRG’s recruiter ranking this year is still 21st nationally. He’s still keeping up his end of the deal. He was the primary recruiter in collecting commitments from Tank, Kobe Hudson, Tate, and secondary recruiter to some dude that I didn’t even know was committed to us. 😂
