With the bumper crop there was this year at OT, you would've thought we could've done the same.

Yup! There are 32 OTs  who are 4*s. 6 are in our normal recruiting territories. 4 in states that don't have a traditional power. 2 more in Arkansas which even though not an AU territoy we should be able to get the quality from that state we want with Gus's prestige in that state & before he was moved off field, Horton's connections there. We need to go out of our territories more when needed to get talent. Sure Bama, UGA, Clemson, & OU are the tier 1s but AU can sell itself better outside of the SEC territories than we do with not great effort needed. Pretty much everyone views the SEC as best conference & rightfully so. There are a good number of quality kids outside of SEC states who would love to come to the SEC to play the Bamas & UGAs & the rest of the conference. We have to do a better job of reaching out to find these kids. Gus really needs to use his analysts for these type of duties much like Bama & UGA do.

Even with a bumper crop of 32 4* OT's of which 6 were in our normal area when you are competing against bama. Georgia, Fla, Clemson, and now Tenn in our area the chances are still not that good. That is why we have to do a much better job at evaluating the 3* players and work them in case we don't get one of the studs.   During the NFL playoffs I am amazed at how many of the players are from smaller schools. As E and others have said we need to have great analyst and rely on them to find these type players.

Offensive recruits to know for 2020

While Auburn coaches have been on the road in recent weeks trying to close out the 2019 cycle with a bang, the Tigers also have been working on future classes.

In fact, that's what most of the stop in January are for.

From Miami to Texas to Arizona and many places in between, Auburn has made recruiting visits to high schools and handed out a bunch of 2020 offers. At the same time, the staff has reached out to top recruits to connect with them in hopes of getting them on campus.

On the offensive side of the ball for 2020, all eyes will be on the offenisve line. Most of the key projected players at that area on the current Auburn roster for 2019 won't be around for 2020. So that's a key focus for the next recruiting cycle.

Of course, people also will be watching to see what new running backs coach Cadillac Williams can do on the recruiting trail.

You also can't forget about the quarterback position.

For now, here's a look at 20 offensive targets for the 2020 class.

ROBBY ASHFORD, QB

The Hoover (Ala.) quarterback is extremely high on Auburn. But he also likes Georgia and it probably will come down to those two schools. Also a factor in this equation: His desire to play college baseball. Auburn leads in the 247Sports Crystal Ball but it appears as though the Bulldogs have some momentum. He wants to have a commit decision this spring.

DEMARKCUS BOWMAN, RB

One of new running backs coach Cadillac Williams' first stops as an Auburn assistant was to see this 5-star back in Florida last week. Bowman told us in January he hoped to visit the Tigers in the near future. Right now, Williams and Auburn have some work to do. Florida, Alabama and Georgia are the teams to watch. His school has sent numerous players to the Gators. That Williams went to see Bowman on Day 1 on the road tells you what the Tigers think of him.

TANK BIGSBY, RB

Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina are the main players here at this time and the Gamecocks appear to be trending up the most. Some think they're recruiting him the hardest. Bigsby is coming off a monster junior season and has a few friends who will play for Auburn, including offensive line teammate Keiondre Jones.

JO'QUAVIOUS MARKS, RB

At this time, it's not quite clear how hard Auburn is recruiting Marks, but he's an outstanding player in a city where the Tigers have had recruiting success. His former teammate is Auburn safety Smoke Monday. Tennessee appears to be trending some at the moment.

LAWRANCE TOAFILI, RB

Not long after Williams visited Bowman, he was in Tampa Bay to check on this 4-star recruit. Florida State, Michigan and Ohio State are some of the other schools involved early in this recruitment.

ROYDELL WILLIAMS, RB

Williams stopped by the Alabama commit's school last week. When Williams chose the Tide in November, Auburn was the runner-up. The Tigers, though, plan to keep recruiting him. Is he flippable? Time will tell. But Auburn certainly will work to get him back on campus. How he bonds with Williams will determine if the Tigers have any shot. The talented back has always liked Auburn but this could be a difficult player to flip.

KOBE PRYOR, RB

To our knowledge, Pryor doesn't yet have a Tigers offers but it's possible one is coming. Williams visited Pryor's school last week and is working to get him on campus in the near future. It possibly could happen this weekend. Interest from major programs in Pryor, who has a really good frame, is starting to spike.

KOBE HUDSON, WR

The 2020 4-star Auburn commit is coming off a huge season in which he accounted for around 4,000 yards of offense while playing quarterback. He seems firm to the Tigers, but other schools continue to heavily recruit him. And by other schools, we mean all of the heavy hitters in the South and beyond.

MUHSIN MUHAMMAD III, WR

The Tigers offered this talented playmaker earlier in the week. The Charlotte area of North Carolina is loaded for 2020 and he's one of the top recruits in that region. You could see Auburn spend more time there during the next recruiting cycle.

EDDIE WILLIAMS, WR

Auburn had long been the favorite to land the lanky receiver from down the road, but it's no longer a foregone conclusion he could go there. In fact, Clemson seems to have emerged recently as the team to beat. That he's former teammates with Clemson star receiver Justyn Ross isn't hurting Clemson. Look for Williams to visit Auburn again this weekend.

J.J. EVANS, WR

Evans came within 30 yards of the state of Alabama's all-time receiving record for a season with 1,706 in 2018. Auburn was among his first big offers, but other major programs have since followed. Alabama and Clemson are two of the programs that are showing major interest. He should be back on campus at Auburn in the near future.

KENTRON POITIER, WR

Does Auburn have a shot with Poitier? We don't know just yet. But he holds a Tigers offer and we've heard Auburn likes the receiver group in south Florida for the 2020 class. Poitier apparently is fairly open with his recruitment. Auburn has been by his school this month, possibly more than once.

TATE RATLEDGE, OT

To become a factor, Auburn really has some work to do here. Ratledge is a major target for most of the elite programs in the South -- and beyond. While he has visited Auburn before, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee look like the teams to watch at this time. It's an uphill climb at the moment.

BRYN TUCKER, OT

The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Tennessee, but we expect Tucker to visit the Tigers in the near future. Auburn was in on him fairly early and hopes that pays off with him making his way there a few times. Clemson is another program to watch.

JAVION COHEN, OT

Cohen does not yet hold an Auburn offer but the Tigers are giving him a good look. He is expected to visit them soon, possibly even this weekend. Cohen was among the top players on a team that just easily won the Class 7A state championship in Alabama last December. His stock seems to be rising.

AVERY JERNIGAN, OG

Jernigan is listed as a tackle, but in reality he'd be a guard or center. Right now, Auburn and South Carolina continue to stand out and it could go either way. That said, the Tigers like their chances and Jernigan has been on campus there a bunch. Look for him to return again very soon.

TREY ZIMMERMAN, OT

Zimmerman has emerged as a big Tigers target of late. He visited Auburn two weekends ago with family and left home with a Tigers offer. Look for him to return this spring. With Auburn needing tackles in 2020, Zimmerman absolutely will be someone to closely track.

CHRIS MAYO, OT/OG

Auburn appears to be a significant factor for the New Jersey standout and he already has visited the Tigers twice. The first trip came during the summer in 2018. Then, he returned last season for a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium -- and he was impressed by the experience. This would seem to illustrate that his interest in the Tigers is strong.

ARIK GILBERT, TE

Gilbert is the No. 1 recruit in the state of Georgia for 2020. Horton was area recruiter and now that falls on Williams. Tight ends coach Larry Porter also has been extremely active in this recruitment. Gilbert has visited the Tigers before but it's not yet known if they can be a factor. Georgia and Tennessee are among the schools receiving the most buzz.

RAY CURRY JR., OT

6COMMENTS

Auburn has had some success before recruiting in Memphis and Curry is one of the top 2020 targets in that city. As of now, there are no Crystal Ball projections for him but everyone from Alabama to Arkansas to Ole Miss and Tennessee is involved. Let's see if he visits the Tigers this spring.

4* DE Quandarrius Robinson has decommitted from us as of about 7 hours ago. It says Gus is going to visit him Friday. Funny he's now 50/50 Auburn v Alabama after Saban made his gaudy helicopter entrance.

4* RB Tank Bigsby is still listed as warm but it looks like we're quite firmly in 3rd place at best

4* OT Tate Rutledge is the same, listed as warm but we're still on the outside

4* OT Bryn Tucker is warm but looks like a Tenn lock as of now

4* ATH Enzo Jennings is warm but looks like a Notre Dame lock

4* Dual-Threat QB Robby Ashford looks like we lead for him

4* OT Joshua Braun is warm but looks like a FSU lean

4* OLB Phillip Webb looks like he's 50/50 between us and Clemson

4* RB Daijun Edwards looks like a three way battle between Auburn-FSU-Georgia

4* OLB Cameron Riley looks like an Auburn-MooState battle

4* OT Avery Jernigan is listed as an Auburn lean but SoCar appears to be trending

4* WR Eddie Williams looks like a Clemson boy

4* WR JJ Evans looks like an Auburn lean

5* DE Myles Murphy doesn't show a leader but we're warm

4* DE Andy Boykin shows us as still leading

3* DT Eric Taylor looks like an Alabama lock but we're warm

Not a lot of positives but we're still wrapping up the previous class so it's not time to hit the panic button. We started really strong and just haven't had much momentum since. Similar to what the 2019 class felt like. Hoping that we can really get things rolling again. With the large percentage of kids committing and signing early it's important to attack you options early and often.

As posted before, those warm/cool features don't mean jack. Reporters don't update them often to reflect accuracy of a situation, especially when the class is a year out. Perfect example, UGA likely leads for Ashford.  I wouldn't make any of the above assessments looking at the warm/cool feature or crystal ball picks given this class is a year out.

We should have given at least conditional offers to any 2020 recruit we think might could possibly become of college OL, especially OT!!!!!!

I love hearing that we’re behind on every notable RB and OL recruit.   What wonderful news to kickoff the 2020 recruiting season.  😰😱😰😱🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

(That last paragraph was sarcasm, @ellitor, LOL)

Watch out for R. Williams. He isn't getting the love from bama after he committed. Seems Nick has set his sights and attention to a couple of guys. BWIW. Just flat out face palm on the OL.

How many OLs do you think we will try to sign in the 2020 class?  Thanks & WDE!

Not WDE but my guess is 5 to 6. Now will all of them be high school OL remains to be seen.
