72' and maverick, won't ever stop praying for ya'll....

72' i just wanted to tell you that i had a colonoscopy on monday and clean as a whistle (for a butt anyway)....i was concerned because of some pain, but most likely it is from scar tissue....now, i know mine was not as advanced as yours was, but it was not far off from you....i can't remember if you had radiation, but if you did, keep a eye on the prostate....i say that due to my prostate cancer being directly caused by the radiation from the colorectal treatment.....i know a couple of folks that are now on a lifetime treatment like you, and they are doing great....one of them, i didn't even know they were doing treatment anymore.....just a no BS post to keep you looking straight ahead, and looking upward....cancer is not an automatic death sentence any longer,....

Thank you sir!  Greatly appreciated and God bless.

I'm glad to hear you're still clear, that's fantastic news.  Unfortunately, for me, neuropathy is really bad and has actually taken away some of the chemo options I was on before my blood platelets got so low.

However, I'm seeing a very specialized surgeon beginning April and my oncologist seems optimistic that he will have some good options.  Apparently he can do much more than just "remove innards and put me in a colostomy bag" so we're intrigued.  No choice anyway, at this point as the neuropathy is so bad... I'm seeing a neurologist now and we're working on finding the right dosage of Gabapentin to help so that's good.  We'll get there.  God is continuing to lead the way!!!

However, I have had no radiation, and don't expect to, so far so good there.  Thanks for the advice though, in case that does come up.

War Eagle and God bless!

i got news for you....your neuropathy ain't going to get a whole lot better....i take gaberpentine but it does not help much....i don't even have to ask if you were on oxiplatin, the bad neuropathy is just part of it.....you will learn to deal with it....pay attention to your eyes and vision while on gaberpentine, it can mess them up....i cut my intake in half due to that.....good luck and lay off the sugar

You've nailed it!

10-4 on everything you've said.  Seeing a neurologist and he agrees the neuropathy is "probably" irreversible.  My mom & bro-in-law both take high doses of the Gabapentin and seem okay so we'll give it a go but will definitely keep my vision in mind, thanks for the tip!

How are you doing @AUsince72? Just checking in.  You are still in my prayers, as well as Maverick and others.

Hi 3rd Gen.  Thanks,  as always, for the kindness.

We're doing pretty good.  Saw a surgeon at Moffit last week and they confirmed they wouldn't do surgery on me unless it was necessary for me to function.  We didn't realize just how rare & aggressive my cancer is until he laid out the study and statistics from the expert on their board.  (Not sure why we didn't "get it" before but....) won't go into the negative statistics because they're actually very scary but after a weekend of crying, yelling, gnashing of teeth (plus me taking a long drive to clear my head) we got it all out and after seeing my oncologist yesterday we're back in a good place and feeling the warmth of The Lord's arms around us.

My scans are still fantastic and we're seeing a radiation Dr again to see if that might be useful but regardless it's just a matter of keeping my cancer at bay until they can't anymore.  It could crop up somewhere else at any time and any place so we're just trusting in The Lord's plan and hoping Jesus has more use for me on earth for more years rather than less 😉.

Regardless, we are planning our move to Knoxville over the summer to be with family so we're very excited about that!  Just gotta have some garage sales and minimize so the move will be easier (I'm NOT excited about that....I hate garage sales) LOL!!  But as long as The Good Lord allows me time I'm SO excited to be able to live somewhere with actual seasons again 😁!

Anyway, sorry for the novel.  We're just keeping our eyes up to Jesus and trusting in His plan!!

God bless!

Nathan

Quick update AUFam.

Just had a CT scan for mapping purposes today as in roughly 2 weeks I'll begin a radiation & chemo combination to hopefully (possibly) eradicate the original tumor.   Again this won't cure me but the idea of having no more signs of the cancer are so exciting!!

I'll have the combination treatment 5 days a week for 6 weeks (the last 2 probably fairly painful) and then 6 weeks of recovery.

Thank you for the continued prayers & support.  It means the world to me!

God bless and War Eagle!

Was thinking about you this morning and was going to message for an update.

This sounds like cause for optimism. I know it is going to be hard, though. Continue to think about you, bro.

Ruffle the girls' hair for us!

Prayers continue to be lifted for you @AUsince72. Even though we sometimes think things are difficult, if we remember that our Heavenly Father is on our side then we can face anything head on. Special people sometimes have to endure special circumstances. My daughter was recently diagnosed with MS at 31. The prayers for her from family and friends have not only led her to her awesome doctors but also given her peace of mind. She was worried at first and it showed but now I can see more confidence in her. Her vision is improving in her left eye and her schedule of treatment (IV) is one that her doctor says has shown the most effective results as it is the most aggressive. Her fight is not the same as yours and I don't mean to imply that it is but just keep the faith because God is always working. Remember,  nothing that matters comes easy. Nothing that comes easy ever really matters.

@AUsince72 I think I told you about my fight with cancer, it came after my kidney and I was just born with one kidney. Had complications after the surgery and I was stuck in the hospital for a couple of months. One particular scare where I was actually touch and go. I was super depressed while hospitalized but laying in that bed that summer I made big changes in my attitude and life and when I got out I applied them. I'm sitting in a good spot now in life from that tough summer in the hospital.

I say that to say keep fighting and blessings can come from our toughest tribulations. I wish you well and glad that we became cool over this past year or so. I look forward to reading your posts

Gabapentin was making me gain weight, and the alternative for me was lyrica but it is super expensive

Hi Cole!  Yes sir, I am a big follower of yours and enjoy your perspective even when we disagree on occassion, though agree with much of your view.   I have been lurking a bit but not posting (I'll update everyone in a bit).

Yes, I believe you did speak of your cancer experience and God bless you and your strength.  I haven't had to stay in a hospital but I've been all over SW Fla, from Tampa to my town of North Port, seeing various specialists and having treatments, etc. since August last year.  However, in your situation that must have been terribly hard and depressing.  I'm so glad you're in a good place and I praise the Lord for your recovery!

I'm going through a tough stage now, as I'll explain in my next post, but don't want to take away from your battle and the fact that I, too, appreciate us being cool.  I respect most posters but you are among the ones I hope to hug at a tailgate and say thanks brother!

As for the Gabapentin, it's not affecting my weight.  The mac & cheese, potatoes and other carbs are THAT culprit....although, very sadly....still not that sweet nectar of fermented hops & barley 😫😫😫.  It's been doing okay for me as it definitely takes the edge off, though I'm too far gone to ever feel "normal" apparently.  Lyrica is an option but with my Mom being diabetic and Dad having major heart issues, the side-effects are too scary for me, compared to Gab.

Again,  thanks brother, War Eagle and God bless you!

Nathan

Hi AU Fam.  Quick update if that's okay...  thanks for the kindness of the recent inquiries!

We've been very busy the last month or so with scans, further opinions, etc.

As I mentioned before, surgery is totally off the table unless it's an emergency.

With that said, this week I have embarked on the "beautiful journey" of radiation and chemo combined 😂🤣😂🤣.  I was to start Monday but the machine was down so I started Tuesday.  5 days a week for 6 weeks....then 6 weeks of recovery as the last 2-3 weeks are expected to be very painful. I get a pump installed into the port in my chest for a 24 hr/5 day chemo drip each week  and lay on the table, under the zapper, for 20 mins (must be a powerful zap 😱!!) each day.  At least I get weekends off 😎.

The hope is that this will completely eradicate the original tumor and though I'll always have the cancer in my system I'll at least be starting fresh, in a way, and if it's God's will, maintenance treatments will help keep me alive and kicking for many more years.

God is in control, and I'm comfortably in the arms of my Lord and Savior,  Jesus Christ so I know He is on this journey with me.  Thank you all for the prayers and support.  I cherish it all more than you know!

So we're "stuck" in Florida for a few more months but Lord willing we'll be making our move to the Smokies by Autumn....ahhhhhhhh Fall...... 🤗

I'm enjoying reading many of the off-season conversations and can't wait to talk real football in a few months!

And I'll end this with this Bible verse: Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”

War Eagle y'all!
