AUBURN, Alabama — Auburn center Austin Wiley suffered a foot injury recently in practice and will soon be evaluated by doctors.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl doesn't expect the injury to be serious, but added the center has yet to be evaluated by a specialist.

The former 5-star signee has worn a protective boot over his left lower leg all week. Wiley has not participated in practices this week and will miss Auburn's Pro Day workouts this afternoon.

"We notified all the NBA clubs yesterday afternoon that Austin would not work out today," Pearl said. "It’s precautionary. He had a foot injury. We’re going to see the specialist on Saturday before the Tennessee football game and we don’t think it’s serious. I don’t want to say it'll be a week or two or three (recovery) on it because even though I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I’m not a doctor and a doctor has to look at it.

"Everybody else is healthy. We’re excited about Pro Day. We’re excited 26-27 NBA teams are here to watch our kids."

Auburn's first exhibition game is set for Nov. 2 against Lincoln Memorial.

Wiley tested the NBA Draft waters in the offseason after sitting out the 2017-18 season. He missed Auburn's first ever pro day last year, making Thursday his second straight year to not be able to work out in front of NBA scouts in October. He did receive an invite and worked out in front of teams at the NBA Combine in the spring.

“I’m really excited to have a chance to coach Austin again this season,” Pearl said in a statement when Wiley returned to Auburn. “He has a chance to be one of the most dominant big men in college basketball this season. He’s such a great kid and a hard worker. All of his dreams for greatness at Auburn and beyond are still alive and well. I also want to thank the Auburn Family for their patience and the support of Austin and his family during this past season.”

Wiley averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a freshman. He reclassified and arrived at Auburn in late December 2016 as a 5-star center and the nation’s No. 24 player, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the second player in Auburn history to be ranked a 5-star talent. He sat out the 2017-18 season due to an FBI investigation involving former assistant coach Chuck Person.

Wiley played on the international level when he was named the team captain of the 2017 USA U19 World Cup team. Wiley was the only American and one of just seven players to average a double-double in the FIBA World Cup in Cairo, Egypt with 10.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game as the United States took home the bronze medal in the summer of 2017.

Auburn won the program's third SEC title in the regular season despite playing without Wiley and guard Daniel Purifoy. The Tigers won 26 games, the second-most in program history, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in March.

Thanks. I heard before anything was reported online. Thus I couldn't post a link. Softened the blow to report early.

Regardless, this injury should not be keeping him out all season. We survived, and thrived, even without him last season. He should return mid-season.

That's about right.  We were complaining about DP sitting out part of season, now we have to wait for both.  I am tired of waiting.  My patience to see these 2 monsters on the floor with this collective team wore out a long time ago.

FFR In that case you have to at least provide where you got the info from so it's not a rumor which is against AUF policy. Otherwise wait til reports surface.

Depending on the extent of the injury, a broken foot is not necessarily something that will keep Wiley sidelined for a long time. They can heal in as early as 3 weeks up to around 8 weeks. We’ve already got a week under our belts, let’s see what happens before we get too up in arms. Still 4 weeks to go before the first exhibition game.

It seems like he is very susceptible to foot injuries. What is this the third time he has had some type of foot injury?
