Auburn's secondary, already shorthanded against Ole Miss, will be down a starting cornerback on Saturday.

Jamel Dean, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, did not make the trip to Oxford, Miss., for the Tigers' 11 a.m. kickoff against the Rebels on ESPN, a team spokesman confirmed to AL.com.

Dean sustained the injury during last week's loss to Tennessee and was listed as "day-to-day" by head coach Gus Malzahn this week. Dean has started six of Auburn's seven games at cornerback this season, and he is tied for the team lead with five pass breakups while adding 13 tackles and an interception.

Auburn will already be without safety Jeremiah Dinson for the first half against Ole Miss after he was called for targeting in the third quarter of last week's loss to Tennessee. Malzahn said Tuesday that sophomore Jordyn Peters or freshman Smoke Monday will likely start in Dinson's place.

Their absences could be critical against an Ole Miss offense that ranks fourth in the nation in passing at 353.1 yards per game, though the Rebels will be without their top deep threat, D.K. Metcalf, who is out for the year with a neck injury.

Two other Auburn players who were listed as day-to-day this week, running back Boobee Whitlow (shoulder/neck) and defensive end Marlon Davison (ankle), both traveled with the team to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Davidson arrived during Tiger Walk with a walking boot on his left foot, while Whitlow was his typical energetic self upon arrival. Both are expected to be game-time decisions.
