Dean was injured during Auburn’s game against Tennessee on Oct. 13, and missed the team’s game against Ole Miss on Oct. 20. Dean did not travel with the team to Oxford, Miss., for that one. However, he is now practicing again with the Tigers, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said during his press conference Tuesday. “He’s back practicing. He’ll play,” Malzahn said of Dean. Dean started six of Auburn’s first seven games this year, with the only game that he didn’t start in that stretch being the season opener against Washington that he entered with a hand injury. He still saw significant action in that game, too, and he pulled down an interception against the Huskies. Dean has totaled 13 tackles this season, with one for a loss, while recording five pass-breakups and that interception. Dean is a junior from Cocoa, Fla., who signed with Ohio State out of high school before winding up in Auburn. Malzahn called Dean “an impact player” for Auburn after the team’s win over Ole Miss, while praising his shorthanded secondary’s play without him in the victory. Without Dean, the Tigers gave up 324 yards passing to Ole Miss, just short of the season-worst mark of 328 passing yards recorded by Tennessee in the Volunteers’ win over Auburn, though against the Rebels the Auburn defense did manage to keep Ole Miss out of the end zone until the Rebels scored a touchdown late in garbage time when Auburn’s victory was well-decided. With Dean and safety Jeremiah Dinson set to start Auburn’s game against Texas A&M, the Tigers’ secondary should be able to play at full strength for the first time in a few weeks. Dinson was ejected on a targeting call during that Tennessee game, and was forced to miss the first half of the Ole Miss game due to NCAA rules Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
