"Saturday Night Live" comic Pete Davidson on Saturday night's show mocked Texas congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw (R) for wearing an eye patch after losing his eye in combat while serving in Afghanistan, prompting swift backlash on social media from conservatives defending the former Navy SEAL.

The comment from Davidson came during a segment on the show's mock newscast, "Weekend Update."

 

 

"This guy is kind of cool, Dan Crenshaw," Davidson said while showing a photo of Crenshaw wearing an eye patch.

"You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie," Davidson added.

"I'm sorry. I know he lost his eye in war — or whatever," he added, to laughter from the live studio audience  "Whatever," Davidson chuckled after the audience response died down.

Crenshaw is running in Texas's 2nd Congressional District and was in the U.S. Navy from 2006 to 2016, serving as a Navy SEAL and lieutenant commander. He lost his right eye in an improvised explosive device blast in 2012 in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Crenshaw went on to deploy twice more in the Middle East and South Korea before retiring in 2016.

The 34-year-old announced his intention to run for Congress in November 2017.

So what do you think? I think this crossed the line even for SNL.

I would find it disgusting if a right leaning comedian named off gross Democrats and included Tammy Duckworth because she lost her legs. I don't find any humor in mocking vets of any political stripe for their handicaps suffered in combat.

I think this link is missing a LOT of context.  I watched the whole thing last night.  He riffed on the way several politicians looked from both sides of the aisle, not just this guy.  Davidson also made sure to make fun of himself because he realizes he's kind of a goofy looking dude.   The link above is conveniently leaving all of that info out in the printed portion.  Watch the entire sketch/riff that's embedded there instead of just reading the article.  Otherwise this conversation is being had in a vacuum.

It's also important to understand that he makes fun of everything.  Davidson's own father died in the 9/11 attacks (he was a firefighter), yet he's made countless jokes about that through the years.  So this isn't out of character for his comedic style at all.

Davidson mocked 1 Democrat..... Andrew Cuomo. He even acknowledged that during the skit so he could say I "looked fair". I watched the video. So I got the context. I guess you're going to concede FOX is fair and balanced since Juan Williams is employed there? lol 

I don't care if Davidson's wants to make fun of Trump or any Republican till he's blue in the face, but I think vets should be off limits considering the left want to dictate speech nowadays. But I guess they only want to dictate one side's speech.

Davidson’s father died in the 9/11 tragedy. He’s a comedian, and he’s been doing stand up in and around NYC since he was 16. 

Just putting that out there for the inundated.

Nobody said SNL or Davidson was meant to be fair and balanced.  They make fun of everything (including Fox, MSNBC, and CNN hosts).  I did point out that yes, he also made fun of Democrat but for sure, there were mostly Republicans being made fun of in that sketch.  But is anyone talking about the other SNL sketch making fun of the entire Dem party last night?  Nope, because it doesn't fit a narrative.

Also, Roseanne got ousted because she used a known racial slur in a non-comedic setting.  There's a big difference here that I think you're conveniently ignoring.

You can say veterans should be off limits, and that's fine.  I would actually tend to agree with you.  But as myself and Shocks have pointed out, Davidson has consistently made fun of heroes, namely his own father's death. 

So I'm not outraged by this because it's consistent with his already established comedic style and this candidate wasn't the only target of ridicule.  As stated, Davidson also made fun of himself too.  If the candidate had been completely singled out, then I may have a bigger problem with it.

When was the last time you turned on SNL and werent overwhelmingly disappointed in how bad the humaor was? 

The last time I watched SNL and knew it was going to be funny was the Adam Sandler/Kevin Nehlen days. I dont like him so much, but some of the stuff they did back then was great.

The funny thing is that Davidson isn't very funny at all. One of the least talented comedians I've ever seen on SNL.  The only reason he's been in the media lately is because of Ariana.

This is what bothers me - the faux outrage.  It's not that I think the SNL comedian didn't do anything wrong.  He did and ought to apologize.  It's that the same folks bellyaching about this because it was a liberal Hollywood type saying it blow it off when Trump says it.  It tells me they aren't really offended that a person's military service and sacrifice were mocked or dismissed.  They only care about it from a political perspective.  If it's useful for painting liberals as haters of vets and to get people to vote against Democrats, great.  But if not, they act like it doesn't exist.

To be clear, both Trump and this SNL dipshit are wrong.  But the right's reactions to it are completely hypocritical.

There was an episode two years ago with Tom Hanks that was fantastic.  This skit came out of it, which has quickly become one of my all time favorites.

I have needed teachers, doctors, police, pastors, etc. but I have never needed a celebrity, comedian, or an athlete.
