Id say he deserved more usage every year except his last season, he was otherwise great. Even last year, he did do his due justice to be open; it had to be disconcerting to his focus whether or not the QB could hit him even butt naked open. Not excusing some of those drops, but there's gotta be some comfort given to his plight

He was one of the few receivers who could constantly find himself open in 2017 regardless of the play. Imagine how could he can be with more post routes over the middle, as well as more crossings in the slot...fantastic one on one moves too. I wish him the best

J J Evans.  Good Times was one of the best shows in the 70's along with Sanford & Son, Rockford etc..........JJ still travels and can occasionally be seen at local Comedy Clubs.  Great actor. & comedian.

Sometimes we focus so much on the disappointment, that when the opportunity comes, we don't take advantage because we're not prepared or we have unbelief.  There's a lesson for him, and a lesson for all of us in there.

I think that's been a consistent theme going back to 2010. Except for Emory Blake, 2014 Duke Williams and long-pitch RB Ryan Davis, Auburn fans have complained about every single receiver dropping balls. And they've been right about some of them. Thing is, it's been a very rare thing during that time that any AU receiver could count on getting thrown a catchable ball with any regularity. So yeah, these guys have been up against more than just coverage and inadequate route trees. Sure, there are guys who deal with it, but why should they have to? #prayforbonix

A physical wide receiver that put up monster numbers as a junior at Montevallo High, four-star Auburn commitment J.J. Evans is one of four receivers already on board for the Tigers in the 2020 class and is part of what is shaping up to be a very good haul on offense for Gus Malzahn’s program. Already with a quarterback and six offensive linemen committed, the Tigers are off to a great start and Evans couldn’t be happier.

“I’m very excited about this group of guys,” Evans said. “We have a great recruiting class that is coming in. I’m real excited.”

Many of those commitments were back on Auburn’s campus last weekend for a picnic with the Tigers to end the summer. Spending the day with his future teammates and coaches, Evans said it was a good time just to enjoy things and relax.

“It was pretty much the same for me because I have been there so many times,” Evans said. “I’m used to everything and it’s pretty much home now. It was just a great time to meet some of the new commits and talks to guys. It was pretty good.”

Part of the day for Evans was also spent working on recruiting other players to Auburn. As one of the long-time commitments in this class along with Kobe Hudson and Avery Jernigan, Evans said it’s their duty to help bring more talent into the program.

“It’s very important because it’s our job to help recruit other guys,” Evans said. “The more guys we get that’s going to help us in the long run. I’m going to try to get as many guys as I can.”

Coming off a year when he caught 74 passes for 1,706 yards and 18 touchdowns, Evans is looking to increase his production this season and something he did this summer is what he believes is going to push him over the top. With his team’s quarterback out with an injury, Evans took over at quarterback during 7-on-7 work throughout the summer. Now back at wide receiver heading into preseason camp, he said the experience is going to work in his favor when they get back on the field this fall.

“It’s going to help me a lot,” Evans said. “It helped me to read defenses. Before I was just running routes and trying to get open. Now before the snap I can read the defense and know which routes I can run to get open. It’s going to help me a lot.”
