Freshman Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., was photographed with a Palestinian activist who praised the terrorist group Hezbollah, said Israel did not have the right to exist, and has called for Israeli "Zionist terrorist" Jews to return to Poland, where roughly three million Jews were killed during the Holocaust.

Tlaib has been celebrated by Democrats and the media as one of the first Muslim women to be elected to Congress and touted as a testament to the diversity of the freshman class. Though she received a lot of national attention due to the silly controversy over her profane remark about impeaching President Trump, she's quickly compiling a record of promoting anti-Semitism.

Over the weekend, Abbas Hamideh tweeted out of photo of himself with a smiling Tlaib, writing, "I was honored to be at Congresswoman @RashidaTlaib swearing in ceremony in #Detroit and private dinner afterward with the entire family, friends and activists across the country."

A number of Twitter users led by Peter Hasson flagged toxic past tweets of Hamideh.

In a 2015 tweet, he wrote of the leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah, "Always loved this heroic resistance leader! Long live Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah!" 

 

On another occasion, he tweeted, "They tried so hard to demonize #Nasrallah and #Hezbollah and we said **** you! #Failed."

 

He also tweeted that Israel had no right to exist. 

israel does not have a right to exist. The terrorist entity is illegal and has no basis to exist other than a delusional ISIS like ideology.

Just last night, he tweeted that Israeli Jews should return to Poland, where the largest number of Jews were massacred during the Holocaust.

Wow,, I know not every member of Congress is pro-Israel but this isn't just opposing pro-Israel policy or being critical of the Israeli government. It's straight up anti-Semitism that Abbas Hamideh has been spewing.

The crickets from the forum on this thread is  WAY TOO MUCH AND 100% PREDICTABLE.

For the record, I went on the record, and I contacted a couple of the admins and predicted that the crickets would come out on this particular thread. It seems that Anti-Semitism is a TOLERABLE OFFENSE to some on the Left. I for one was itching to blow this thread up about the sheer hypocrisy in the article. If anybody on the Right had said or was pictured with Militant White Supremacists the Condemnation Machine would have hit overdrive. But because it's the Left and we are dealing with rampant Anti-Semitism, we get CRICKETS. 

This is one of the reasons so many reasonable people across the globe never take some on the American Left seriously, EVER. They have this blind spot when it comes to Israel and the Jews. Suddenly it is so "en vogue" to be Openly Anti-Semitic. Oh and throw in a few completely uninformed calls for BDS and you and the Hitler Jungen can call it a day.

Also, she has made no such anti-Semitic claims (to my knowledge) and this article quickly focuses not on her, but on this other dude whom I've never heard of.  Notice there isn't a tweet or quote from her or anyone in her office here?  That's because this is bad journalism.  Good journalism gives the other side at least an opportunity to respond and if they decide to not respond, the article will say so.

The "she's quickly compiling a record of promoting anti-Semitism" line in particular has no basis in reality or corroboration at this time.  In fact, the article could not back up that claim at any point.  Hamideh may have that record, but there's nothing in the public domain to suggest that she does.

Last week, newly sworn-in US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib made headlines for her tweet accusing proponents of the proposed federal anti-BDS bill, of “forgetting what country they represent.” Whether intended to be antisemitic or not, Tlaib’s comments reflect and empower a culture that is aroused by hate speech – especially online. 

Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American female member of the US Congress, has been embroiled in controversy before, stating she was for a one-state solution, aligning herself with extremists with antisemitic alliances like Linda Sarsour and supporting the BDS movement. It doesn’t come as any surprise, therefore, to see Tlaib’s most recent comments carelessly regurgitating antisemitic canards about “dual loyalties.” These comments were widely condemned by Jewish organizations on the left and right as well as by other public officials such as Senator Marco Rubio.

Interestingly enough, Tlaib herself has questionable “loyalties.” Upon her electoral victory, she was filmed celebrating draped in a Palestinian flag. She also told the Huffington Post in an interview that she was proud to be in Congress for Palestinians in the West Bank, and stated, “I’m going to be a voice to them.” Can you imagine the uproar if a Jewish member of Congress celebrated electoral victory by draping themselves in an Israeli flag and told the press that they were in Congress to “be a voice of the Israeli people?” 
 

These double standards did not go unnoticed. Organizations like American Jewish Congress, ADL and StandWithUs, called out Tlaib on Twitter for her hypocrisy. AJC shared a photo of Tlaib in a Palestinian flag at her election party and wrote, “Tell us more about dual loyalty.” Similarly, StandWithUs tweeted in response to Tlaib’s claims, “Says the woman who stated explicitly she’s in Congress to ‘be the voice of Palestinians in the West Bank.’”
 

But “dual loyalties” aside, Tlaib has campaigned as a young, fresh, and “woke” face of the new members of Congress. Yet repeating antisemitic canards, even accidentally, is the polar opposite of “woke.” Just as we see with the rampant antisemitism and subsequent division in the women’s march and their leaders, she is either being utterly dishonest, or she has a blind spot when it comes to even being aware of what antisemitism looks like. Both are disturbing.
 

 

After immense criticism, Tlaib shot back, claiming that she was referring to US Senate proponents of the bill, “not Jews” – but whether that is true or not, the damage is already done. We are living in an era where words matter. US President Donald Trump is rightly criticized for his brazen insults – in fact that is a campaign message that Tlaib used to get into office. Standing against what Trump stands for. Why then, is she carelessly and hypocritically employing the same tactics to promote her own extremist agenda? The effects of spreading hate speech, knowingly or unknowingly are toxic in American (and global) society today. If she was aware of the implications of her tweet, she should not have shared it, and if she was not aware, she is unacceptably naive to the very dangerous antisemitism thriving in our culture today. This is intolerable from a member of Congress.

 

Congresswoman Tlaib, how can you claim to be on the side of the victim, but then become the oppressor in how you speak about other oppressed minority groups?
 

This is not the first time Tlaib has taken the side of the oppressors against Jews. She also defended Marc Lamont Hill when he called for the destruction of Israel, and was in fact fired from CNN for his statements implying endorsement of genocide. Hill has also repeated antisemitic blood libels, such as that Israel “poisons water” of Palestinians. At her swearing-in ceremony, she was accompanied by none other than Palestinian-American Linda Sarsour, who is known for minimizing antisemitism and had been blasted for associations with antisemitic leaders like Louis Farrakhan. Also in attendance was comedian Amer Zahr, who wrote “Palestine” on a sticky note and stuck it on Tlaib’s world map in her congressional office, directed at the space where Israel is located.
 

Last but not least, supporter of Hezbollah, and founder of the “Al Awda Right of Return Movement,” Abbas Hamideh, also attended and posted a photo with her. Hamideh has repeatedly shared his support for Hezbollah on social media. He has also made antisemitic “jokes” about how Jews should “stay in Brooklyn.”
 

While Tlaib isn’t responsible for the statements of others, she is responsible for her own. Her comments are dangerous, careless and unbecoming of a representative of Congress. As a woman, and as a religious minority in the United States, she should know better than anyone the importance of words.

There are some on the Left, always there like bad breath and body odor. They just cant help themselves when it comes to Anti-Semitism. Even some of the Talking Heads at MSNBC just cant let an opportunity to take a swipe at Israel and/or Jews in particular. It's their comfort food topic. It's the thing they can talk over at the cocktail party and its always good for an emotional surge.

What went curiously unmentioned in all the flattering post-election coverage, however, was that Omar, who replaces Keith Ellison — a former acolyte of anti-Semitic minister Louis Farrakhan — also has some exotic notions about the Jewish people.

In a 2012 tweet, for instance, the Democrat explained that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel.”

Meanwhile, the other Muslim woman headed to Congress is Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib, the daughter of Palestinian immigrants who wants to cut aid to the Jewish state because supporting it “doesn’t fit the values of our country.”

Writer David Steinberg identified 105 news stories written in the immediate aftermath of Omar’s victory, and not a single one mentioned that she believed Jewry possessed mind-control abilities or that Israel was “evil.” No one called on the Democratic Party to distance itself from this rhetoric.

No one at the partisan Anti-Defamation League, ostensibly tasked with stopping anti-Jewish libel but in reality busy hyperventilating over every far-flung right-wing bigot with a handful of supporters, paid her any attention.

Now, it isn’t inherently anti-Semitic to be critical of Israeli political leadership or policies. The Democratic Party antagonism toward the Jewish state has been well-established over the past decade. But Omar used a well-worn anti-Semitic trope about the preternatural ability of a nefarious Jewish cabal to deceive the world.

It’s something you would expect to read in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or hear from a professor of comparative literature at Columbia University, not a US congresswoman.

Omar had a chance to retract, or at least refine, her statement. Instead, she doubled down. “These accusations are without merit,” she claimed, blaming Jewish Islamophobia for the backlash. “They are rooted in bigotry toward a belief about what Muslims are stereotyped to believe.”

To accuse the only democratic state in the Middle East, which grants more liberal rights to its Muslim citizens than any Arab nation, of being an “apartheid regime” is, on an intellectual level, grossly disingenuous or incredibly ignorant. And when a politician singles out Jewish allies as “evil,” but ignores every brutal theocratic regime in the area, it’s certainly noteworthy.

Omar even wants the US to normalize relations with the Holocaust-denying terror-state of Iran. This seems like a fact reporters might have wanted to shoehorn into one their post-election articles.

Then again, the media has a track record of tenaciously ignoring the anti-Semitism creeping into Democratic Party politics. The left, recall, has embraced the Women’s March and its co-founders, Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour, even though they’re both supporters of the Nation of Islam, which has peddled anti-Jewish conspiracies about wicked Jewish influence in America.

None of the leaders of the Democratic Party has said anything about the activist wing pushing these age-old hatreds. We have not heard a peep from those who see white supremacy behind every border security measure. There are elections to win, after all. And in the contemporary liberal establishment, conceived in identity politics, even many Jews have remained dutifully silent.

In such an environment, members of the Congressional Black Caucus can maintain a relationship with anti-Semites without any blowback. Democrats have yet to explain why Maxine Waters and at least four other House Dems — who’ll all be in leadership positions come January — were seen on video schmoozing with the leader of the Nation of Islam.

Omar’s defenders will claim she’s anti-Israel, not anti-Jewish. “Anti-Zionism” has been the preferred justification for Jew-hatred in institutions of education and within progressive activism for a long time. Now it’s coming for politics. Democrats can either allow it to be normalized, or they can remain silent.

With anti-Semitic incidents on the rise across the globe and at home, it is critical that the Democratic Party, whose progressive wing has become avowedly hostile to Israel, and some of whose prominent figures have maintained ties with Louis Farrakhan, fully and unequivocally disavow anti-Semitism in all forms and recommit its support for the Jewish State.

The waning support shown by the Democrats for Israel comes at a time when anti-Semitic incidents are increasing in the United States, as dramatically illustrated by the massacre in a Pittsburgh synagogue last month. Last year in Charlottesville, Virginia, white supremacists chanted “Jews will not replace us.” These are not isolated horrors in our nation. The Anti-Defamation League found that anti-Semitic incidents in the United States rose 57 percent in 2017, along with a 258 percent increase in the number of white supremacist propaganda incidents on college campuses.

In Europe and elsewhere, the picture also is darkening. A report from the Kantor Center at Tel Aviv University found anti-Semitic feelings on the rise globally, while attacks have grown more brutal. Commentators in the United States tend to blame Donald Trump and his supporters on the “alt right” for resurgent anti-Semitism. However, what concerns us most is the rise of anti-Semitism among progressives, including top Democrats.

The progressive left seems determined to undermine the “special relationship” between America and Israel, the only truly democratic ally the United States has in the Middle East, and also exhibits increasingly anti-Semitic tendencies. During her campaign, congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.Y.) decried the “occupation of Palestine,” which prompted the liberal Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz to refer to her as “the embodiment of the Democrats shifting away from Israel.”

Haaretz is not wrong here. Ocasio Cortez is a darling of the Democratic Socialist faction of the Democratic Party which, in a state of “jubilation,” according to Chip Gibbons of the Democratic Socialists of America, passed a resolution in support of the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement at its 2017 convention. They chanted “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” Uttering these same words, which is code language for many Jews that stands for the destruction of Israel, recently cost CNN political analyst Marc Lamont Hill his job with the network.

The Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement demands, among other things, that Israel withdraw from the occupied territories and remove its West Bank security wall. If such proposals were enacted, the survival of Israel as a free state would be imperiled. Democrats cannot stand for this.
