Target watch: Tuesday chatter

By Keith Niebuhr

Ira Henry, OT, St. Louis (Mo.) Trinity Catholic:

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, FSU.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Henry's recent official visit to Auburn was a big hit. In particular, we are told his mother loved it there. Auburn got into the picture a little bit late, yet the Tigers have made a big move largely because of the depth chart. By 2020 if Henry is progressing he should have a chance to compete for a starting spot at either tackle or guard.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: FSU hosted Henry on an official visit over the weekend and Henry was extremely complimentary of the 'Noles when he departed. FSU also has a great need. In fact, he may have to play in 2019 (you can debate whether him playing in Year 1 is a good thing, since most feel he needs some seasoning). The fact is, the Seminoles impressed him and made him feel comfortable, he said.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn-FSU tossup. This one still could go either way. Auburn's Gus Malzahn will do an in-home with Henry this week and that will have a significant impact in this recruitment one way or another. It's a very tight battle -- and we're still digging for more intel.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

This one is really tight and could still go in either direction right now. Malzahn and offensive line coach J.B. Grimes are expected to be at Trinity on Friday. Henry plans to officially visit Indiana this weekend but it feels like it's an Auburn-FSU battle all the way. What's interesting is that Auburn doesn't seem to be throwing out last-minute offers to tackles. We checked with one potential target who recently spoke to Auburn -- Cam'Ron Johnson of Texas, who said the Tigers didn't visit him last week and there were no new developments. It seems Auburn is all in on landing Henry right now.

Charles Moore, DE, Louisville (Miss.)

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Florida, FSU, LSU.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Relationships, relationships, relationships. And comfort. Moore has friends in the class (see defenders Jaren Handy and Derick Hall), is extremely close with area recruiter Marcus Woodson and defensive line coach Rodney Garner and generally just likes the low-key vibe in Auburn. The Tigers have made him a priority recruit for more than a year and he has been on campus a handful of times, most recently in December for his official visit. Not only does Moore like Auburn, so does his family.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: As comfortable as Moore is in Auburn, his relationship with Florida coach Dan Mullen, who he committed to when Mullen was at Mississippi State, is strong. Florida's need at his position also is a significant factor.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn ... but don't overlook Florida.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

This one is all over the map. Every place he visits is the new hot school it seems. Auburn, though, is the one constant. Moore will visit LSU this weekend and that certainly is a team to watch.  Some think the Bayou Bengals could end up being a major threat. We haven't yet heard when Auburn and the other schools plan to visit him this week. The confidence level in Auburn still seems to be moderately high. But I think everyone knows Moore is somewhat unpredictable.

Mark-Antony Richards, RB, Palm Beach (Fla.) Wellington

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Miami, Florida, Georgia.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Relationships and need. The Tigers have recruited Richards for a few years and the relationship goes back even further -- to when they were after his older brother (former Miami receiver Ahmmon Richards) a few years ago. Richards always has liked Auburn and always likes being in Auburn. During the past year, he has gotten to know the Auburn commits and signees well and the bond is real. Additionally, while some schools have at times been unsure about which position Richards would play, Auburn has pursued him solely as a running back, something he prefers.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: Florida and Georgia have made significant pushes and both programs impressed him on recent official visits. He has familiarity in Miami with his brother having played there. All three teams have a need for offensive playmakers.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

Florida coach Dan Mullen is visiting Richards on Tuesday, Auburn on Wednesday, Penn State on Thursday. Also, Georgia will see him this week and probably Miami, too. Auburn continues to feel good about where it sits. Malzahn's in-home will be big. He'll be joined by, among others, new running backs coach Cadillac Williams (he's in Florida on Tuesday, too). Some of the other schools involved see Auburn as the favorite, but apparently Florida also feels good about its chances.

Kamaar Bell, C, Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, FSU.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: After officially visiting Auburn a few weeks ago, Bell said the Tigers had a huge lead. But following his official to FSU over the weekend, he now claims those two are running neck and neck. Perhaps for Auburn, that's a good thing -- seeing as though even after a great visit the Seminoles still hadn't jumped them. Some at Auburn continue to like the Tigers' chances. The other commits also seem to be a little confident. At Auburn, Bell sees the opportunity to play fairly early in his career. Also, the Tigers have been heavily pursuing him since last spring and that might help.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: FSU, as expected, has made a big push after missing on some other guys. The need is there in Tallahassee, Fla., and so is the proximity to home. If Henry ends up picking FSU, that might help the 'Noles with Bell. Apparently, those two have become fast friends.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn-FSU ... It's close, but perhaps Auburn has a slight edge going into his final in-home visits. It still could go either way. He might visit FSU again next weekend. If that happens, then Auburn has to be worried.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

Not a lot of new info to report. Some FSU Crystal Ball picks have come in. His kicker teammate committed to FSU this week. Another teammate, cornerback Jay Ward, will official with the 'Noles this weekend. Should Bell join him, that certainly wouldn't be a good sign for the Tigers. Bell was all Auburn entering his FSU official visit. Now, some think the 'Noles are trending. Will the high of the visit wear off? Auburn can only hope. We have yet to nail down when Malzahn will visit him.

Wisdom Asaboro, OT/DL, Charlotte (N.C.) Covenant Day School

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: North Carolina, Auburn, Penn State, Oregon.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: The 6-feet-8, 280-pound Asaboro  has very quickly emerged as a major Tigers target. He just recently reclassified from the 2020 class to 2019 and that's why you're only recently starting to hear about him. Asaboro has no position preference. He could play either offensive tackle or on the defensive line. Most of the people we’ve talked to think he will eventually land on offense. One person described him as a “more athletic Prince Tega Wanogho.” Like Wanogho, Asaboro is from Nigeria. And yes, he knows Wanogho well. In fact, we’ve learned his brother and Wanogho are very close friends. That’s a relationship that potentially could help the Tigers. Auburn hopes to get him on campus soon.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: Some think the Tar Heels have a nice edge right now and the fact he lives in that state won't hurt their chances.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: North Carolina ... but Asaboro officially visited Penn State over the weekend, will hit Oregon this coming weekend and probably will visit Auburn. If he doesn't sign Feb. 6, Auburn will have a real shot.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

Malzahn visited Asaboro on Monday as the Tigers continue to work hard on getting an official visit. It sounds like he was joined by offensive line coach J.B. Grimes and defensive line coach Rodney Garner. This one is extremely fluid. Auburn hopes to find out soon if he will visit.

Octavius Brothers, LB, Rockledge (Fla.)

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, North Carolina, Miami.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: High.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Because of Auburn's need at linebacker, the Tigers have made him a priority and he knows it. Also, he has gotten pretty close with linebackers coach Travis Williams. A former UCF commit, Brothers officially visited Auburn earlier this month and put the Tigers on top afterward, He has since cancelled an official visit to Miami, which was thought to be the biggest threat to Auburn.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: If Brothers ends up taking that cancelled visit to Miami, then you get concerned if you're Auburn. Also, North Carolina is hanging around. He visited that school late last year and liked it a lot.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

We recently put in a Crystal Ball pick for Auburn and our confidence level has never been higher.

Maurice Hampton, S, Memphis (Tenn.) University SCHOOL -- LSU COMMIT

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: LSU, Auburn.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Hampton is an elite prospect in both football and baseball (he's a high-level outfielder) and the coaches with both sports at Auburn have made him a major priority. Hampton and his family know two Auburn assistants well -- area recruiter Marcus Woodson and tight ends coach Larry Porter. Both have ties to Memphis. A couple weeks ago, Auburn sent the entire staff (sans Gus Malzahn) to visit Hampton. That tells you what kind of priority he is.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: Hampton has been committed to LSU for an awfully long time and clearly has strong relationships to those in Baton Rouge, La. Also, he could go pro in baseball, making this all moot.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: LSU.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

Another outlet has reported he could visit Auburn this weekend. But Hampton's father twice told our LSU site Monday his son was done with visits -- and he was adamant about it. We've always thought Auburn was a threat to LSU, but should he make the trip to Auburn once more then things really get interesting. For now, though, LSU remains our pick.

Jammie Robinson, S, Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: South Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Robinson has visited Auburn numerous times through the years, has former teammate Big Kat Bryant on the roster and we know his mom likes that Auburn is close to home. He could make an impact early at nickel.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: South Carolina has led in this recruitment for a long, long time. The bond Robinson has with the coaching staff in Columbia, S.C. is extremely strong. He probably has visited that program more than any. We think the Gamecocks are in a really good spot.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: South Carolina.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

With every passing day, we feel better about our Crystal Ball pick to South Carolina.

Quashon Fuller, DE, Lehigh Acres (Fla.) -- FSU COMMIT

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: FSU, Alabama, Auburn.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium-high.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Auburn loves Fuller as a player. He's right up there toward the top of the board. After 2019, the depth chart becomes favorable when three key players depart for the NFL. Fuller had a good official visit to Auburn in December and the Tigers keep pushing.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: A longtime FSU commit, Fuller officially visited the 'Noles over the weekend and that seems to have helped boost their chances of keeping him. But Alabama is lurking and will host him this coming weekend. Should the Tide push, that's when it would get interesting.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: FSU or Alabama (but Auburn is hanging around).

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

While Auburn continues to heavily recruit Fuller, the Tigers have to contend with FSU and Bama. It sounds like the 'Noles feel better about things after his recent official. But he's headed to Alabama this weekend. There's still a lot to shake out here. Our best guess is, Auburn is second or maybe even third in this one.

LeDarrius Cox, DT, Mobile (Ala.) McGill-Toolen -- TENNESSEE COMMIT

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Despite being committed to Tennessee since April, Cox has continued to flirt with Auburn and has visited the Tigers multiple times, most recently a couple weeks ago for his official visit. He seems to have a strong relationship with the staff. There is some chatter the Vols are tight on spaces. That could work to Auburn's advantage if it pushes.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: If the Vols have room and push to keep him, Cox might be difficult to flip. If he wanted out, he probably would have de-committed by now, many doubt must be thinking.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn (at the moment).

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

With the Vols tight on space, it seems more and more likely Cox will end up at Auburn. That always has been a possibility, even before Tennessee started running out of room. For months, there has been chatter about a possible flip. Cox isn't talking, however.

John Rhys Plumlee, QB, Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Ole Miss, Mississippi State, FSU, Auburn

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Low-medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Plumlee -- and Auburn -- think he's a really good fit for the Gus Malzahn offense. He's extremely mobile and those are the types of quarterbacks who have thrived untder Malzahn. Also, he's a baseball standout and the Tigers also like him in that sport.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: That Auburn already has Nix on board probably doesn't help here. It's not that Plumlee is afraid of the competition, but Nix already is enrolled and will take part in spring practice, giving him a huge head start over Plumlee, should he chose Auburn.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Ole Miss or Mississippi State.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

The feeling is if Auburn didn't have Nix, landing Plumlee would have been a real possibility. At this time, none of our sources think he'll land with the Tigers. That, said, we suspect Auburn will continue to recruit him.

Jamious Griffin, RB, Rome (Ga.)

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Georgia Tech, Auburn, Louisville, FSU.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Right now, Auburn continues to feel good about Richards. If that changes, you might see the Tigers put the full-court press on Griffin. He's a talented back who was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Georgia.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: The need may be greater elsewhere. Should Auburn land Richards, would Auburn really need or want a third back in the class when the Tigers have other needs?

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Georgia Tech. But he still has an official to FSU left.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

Auburn continues to recruit him but with Richards being the top target one gets the feeling Georgia Tech is the more likely destination unless FSU can make a run this weekend. If Auburn gets any negative vibes from Richards this week, it could begin to push more for Griffin.

Jamond Gordon, DE/DT, Meridian (Miss.)

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Ole Miss, Auburn, junior college.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Low-medium.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: Gordon was a longtime Tigers commit before backing away from his pledge Dec. 18, has a strong relationship with the coaching staff and is friends with Auburn defensive line signee Jaren Handy, another Mississippi native.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: He also was committed to Ole Miss at one time and even while he was on the Auburn commit list he continued to visit the Rebels. It just seems like they're more on his mind than the Tigers -- and  frankly, the need may be greater in Oxford, Miss.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Ole Miss. That said, there continues to be some chatter Gordon could end up junior college.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

There is very little buzz about Auburn and Gordon right now. It's feeling like that ship has sailed.

La'Michael Pettway, WR, Arkansas grad transfer

***OVERVIEW***

TOP SCHOOLS: Auburn, Iowa State,  Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech -- for now. Pettway, the Razorbacks' co-leader in catches last season, just entered the transfer portal last week so more schools are likely to get in the mix.

LEVEL OF NEED FOR AUBURN: Medium. He'd play the same position where early departure Darius Slayton was at in 2018. He'd give the Tigers some experience there.

WHY AUBURN WILL LAND HIM: With Slayton gone, the Tigers are telling Pettway he could make an immediate -- and significant impact. That seems to be resonating with him. Also, he has lots of family in Alabama, so that helps.

WHY AUBURN WON'T LAND HIM: Pettway, who officially visited Auburn over the weekend, still is exploring his options. He might find what he thinks is a better fit elsewhere. Time will tell. Also, will Auburn have room? That might not be known until after National Signing Day.

WHICH WAY HE'S TRENDING: Auburn ... for the moment. But lets see who else gets involved and what others schools he visits.

***TUESDAY CHATTER***

With Pettway not planning to decide anything right at this moment, that would seem to work out well for the Tigers. If spots are left after National Signing Day you could see the staff decide to make a major push. This certainly is someone to watch moving forward.

Very optimistic view from Ben Wolk at Rivals in a free article. Not sure if he is in the know but just sharing and would love if he is correct but seems to good to be true.

Who signs where? Checking in on Auburn's top 12 remaining targets

Robin Conn/AuburnSports.com

Ben Wolk • AuburnSports.com

@benjaminwolk

AUBURN — A week from Tuesday, unsigned college football recruits across the country will gear up for their final 24 hours on the market.

With a week to go, some prospects will take their last official visits of the cycle. Others will host coaches on in-home visits leading up to Sunday night when face-to-face contact comes to a halt before National Signing Day.

It's possible Auburn adds a target or two in the next few days, but the Tigers' board is taking shape. Below are the 12 prospects most strongly considering Auburn who have taken official visits to the Plains. I break down where I expect each of those programs to sign and who is in the best position to change that before signing day.

3* OC Kamaar Bell

This is a two-team race. Despite Bell's rave reviews of Tallahassee this weekend, I actually view this as Auburn's race that Florida State is trying to survive in. Auburn has made it clear the Tigers want Bell to play center at the next level, and Bell loves that pitch. The Tigers have been around this recruitment for a long, long time and, dating back to the summer, the team Auburn was most worried about pushing was Alabama. That hasn't happened. Florida State has given a valiant effort, but it won't likely be enough.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Florida State

3* LB Octavius Brothers

Here's another two-team race that feels an awful lot like a two-team race. Brothers has already taken an official visit and confidently called Auburn his leader. In fact, Brothers told AuburnSports.com that, while he didn't say it until he visited and knew for sure, he'd felt for a while his No. 1 choice was and would be Auburn. Once he made that trip, he felt like it was a no-brainer to come out and say it. Since that visit, Brothers put Miami and North Carolina in his top 3 with Auburn and elected against a Miami official visit he initially planned. North Carolina's official visit came before the new staff arrived. The Tar Heels are hanging around, but it won't beat out Travis Williams.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: North Carolina

3* DT LeDarrius Cox

This has been a tough one to gauge. Dating back to the summer, Auburn was the team to beat even though he remained committed to Tennessee. Cox changed his tune during the fall and winter, though, specifically telling AuburnSports.com in December that he would sign with the Volunteers and had little doubt in his mind about that. But he still had an official visit planned to Auburn and took it. He hasn't said much publicly since that trip, but the Tigers feel good about where they stand with Cox. Assuming Auburn pushes for Cox the way it seems, I expect Cox to flip to the home-state school.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Tennessee

4* DE Quashon Fuller

Fuller has lived his recruitment to the fullest for the last month. Starting with his Auburn official visit in December, Fuller has taken visits to Auburn, Louisville, Florida State and now said he plans to be in Tuscaloosa next weekend. This makes for an exciting finish to a recruitment. With all that said, the Seminoles have hosted him on an unofficial visit and official visit in the last month. It's tough to envision Florida State getting him on campus twice in the last month and still losing a commitment it's held since February 2017.

Prediction: Florida State

Next in line: Auburn

4* RB Jamious Griffin

Griffin's recruitment has taken off in the last month the way it should for the few years prior. One of the state of Georgia's most productive running backs in history has officially stepped off his long-time N.C. State commitment. This has opened the door for Auburn and Georgia Tech who have been seen as the favorite. Griffin has also opened up his recruitment to other programs, which included an official visit to Louisville and an upcoming trip to Florida State. I think this could go a variety of different ways — especially if Auburn were to miss on Mark-Antony Richards — but the late addition and visit to Florida State makes me think the Seminoles will make a successful final push despite some of Griffin's family connections to Georgia Tech.

Prediction: Florida State

Next in line: Georgia Tech

4* S Maurice Hampton

One thing to watch this weekend: Will Hampton visit Auburn this weekend? If he does, that will be game-changing news for Auburn. He has already taken an official visit, so to return on an unofficial visit just before signing day would be telling. With that said, the LSU side feels confident about where things stand after Hampton went on an unofficial visit to LSU recently. This is a football and baseball decision, so the work of Butch Thompson & Co., certainly comes into play in this recruitment. Ultimately, it's hard to envision Hampton stepping off a commitment he's had since July 2016, but it's undeniable Auburn is giving him something to think about.

Prediction: LSU

Next in line: Auburn

3* OT Ira Henry

Much like with Bell, Henry has a two-team decision to make between Auburn and Florida State. Both of those players were in Tallahassee over the weekend and were actually communicating via Twitter about wanting to play together. I believe they will end up in the same destination. Henry called Auburn his leader after his trip to the Plains. He has since said it's a close battle between the two. Gus Malzahn plans to go see Henry at the end of this week, and I think his last-minute in-home will do the trick to shore up the only pure offensive tackle for the Tigers in this class. This is a gotta-have-it signing for the Tigers, in my opinion.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Florida State

4* DT Charles Moore

Behind Henry (and George Pickens, I suppose), Moore might be my next on the list for most-important get. Let's take this back a couple years. Moore committed to Mississippi State before his junior season in 2017. He tore his ACL that year and lost almost the whole season. That didn't stop Rodney Garner from staying true to his recruitment of Moore. It paid off last spring when Moore started visiting. Auburn received another boost when one of Moore's good friends Jaren Handy signed with the Tigers. But another twist occurred: Dan Mullen's coaching move to Florida. Moore committed to Mullen way back when. Mississippi State had little shot to keep Moore with Auburn and Florida pushing the way they did. The Mullen effect has made this a close, close recruitment. But the combination of Handy, Garner and area recruiter Marcus Woodson seems to give Auburn a few advantages that I think will win out.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Florida

5* WR George Pickens

Pickens is certainly keeping a lot of people guessing. As he has said, he almost signed with Auburn during the early signing period, but he decided to back off. A big reason for that? A few schools he hadn't officially visited yet also sent him letters of intent during the early signing period in hopes of landing a surprise signature. Pickens decided to check those places out in January. He has been to Georgia and Miami back-to-back weekends. Those are the two programs who still have a realistic shot for Pickens. But, as I've said for months on Pickens, I'm not changing my prediction on this one. Auburn has had Pickens' commitment since July 2017, and the Tigers will hold onto him over the course of the next week.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Georgia

3* QB John Rhys Plumlee

This recruitment has turned in several different ways throughout the process. Initially, the only school who really recruited Plumlee exclusively as a quarterback was Georgia. That's what landed him in the Bulldogs' class to begin with. Then Georgia changed its offer before the early signing period and gave him a blueshirt option. Plumlee decided to check a few other things out, just in case. That has included trips to Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Florida State. The main difference: all of these schools have changed their pitch to quarterback, and Georgia has stayed true to its blueshirt plan. That makes Georgia an unlikely landing spot at this point. Auburn has recruited Plumlee, but the two in-state schools seem to be making stronger pushes.

Prediction: Mississippi State

Next in line: Ole Miss

4* RB Mark-Antony Richards

Here's another one near the top of the must-win list. Richards has been an Auburn target for as long as he's been a high school football player. That separates the Tigers in a big way. Still, Florida and Georgia — more than Miami, really — have given Richards something serious to think about in the final days leading up to his National Signing Day decision. Auburn has been and continues to be the team to beat in this recruitment, however, and it's difficult to envision that changing in a week given the diligence Richards and his family have taken throughout this recruitment. Gus Malzahn and Cadillac Williams plan to see Richards on Wednesday, and that should be the final check mark that wins out for the Tigers.

Prediction: Auburn

Biggest threat: Florida

4* S Jammie Robinson

Earlier this month, Jammie Robinson took his official visit to Auburn with his mother and brother. It was his mother's first time on the Plains and re-entered Auburn into a recruitment many had forgotten about in the months prior. Robinson has been an Auburn target since he was an underclassman coming on recruiting visits with Big Kat Bryant and Quay Walker. Auburn has created a last-minute push, but South Carolina has consistently been there the entire time. The Gamecocks likely win out because of their long-standing status for Robinson.

Prediction: South Carolina

Next in line: Auburn

MY FINAL THOUGHTS: That would bring Auburn to 24 signees, assuming all my predictions happen. Throw in the grad transfer addition of Jay Jay Willson, and that's 25. My sourcing tells me Auburn thinks it will take 26-27 during this cycle. That number, however, includes any grad transfers the Tigers may take. Throw in La'Michael Pettway who took an official visit last weekend, and that's 26. If the Tigers try to go grad transfer quarterback or offensive lineman, that gets it to 27. So it's possible Auburn wants to leave a couple spots available after National Signing Day to allow a late addition. With that said, Auburn wouldn't turn away Robinson or Hampton or Griffin if they wanted in. This is all part of the decision making and numbers crunch leading up to National Signing Day.

How is FSU in any of these fights.....5-7 season,  facilities are not that great I hear, coach is being sued by former players.  Does possibility of immediate playing time really matter this much?   ...if so, wonder how bama and the other big time programs ever get anyone.

Gonna really be disappointed if we lose any of these guys to FSU..

Been discussed in the Bell & other threads. They are selling 2019 PT hard for OLs.

5-7 season

Doesn't usually play much of a factor with recruits from the current class barring a major coaching change coming with it or smoke of it happening. Taggert is in year 1 so he is safe for a couple more seasons.

Won't have a major effect unless job security comes into question.

FSU is always going to recruit well.  They've got the girls from FAMU a couple of streets away, a good party scene, and former players and alumni stay connected.  Their new stadium enhancements are very nice and now they're pedaling a new football only facility that is in design phases.  Something for momma's to think about though, and I hope our staff is pushing this...Tallahassee ranks #1 in Florida in violent crimes and #1 or 2 in STDs.

Old school says AU never wants to go head to head with FSU up to signing day,  let’s hope we get it done vs them in a big way.

For recruiting battles alone,  this is why I would like a a home and home with them.

Man,  it is frustrating that the two on the list that are the most up in the air right now are our top 2 OL targets.   If we lose both of them, our OL recruiting for this year is a serious strikeout!!!!  (No offense to the ones we got, we just needed a lot more high quality OL)

Not if we get Wisdom who has the highest ceiling of the 3 & by far the most potential to be a LT. Plus Alec Jackson has moved to the OL. That would essentially be a 4 OL class which would be at least somewhat manageable.

Not if we get Wisdom who has the highest ceiling of the 3 & by far the most potential to be a LT. Plus Alec Jackson has moved to the OL. That would essentially be a 4 OL class which would be at least somewhat manageable.

I’ll admit Alec J fell off my radar. When did this come up? What is your prognosis of him contributing there? Hopefully he was happy with this move

Posted about it a number of times the past few weeks. It happened when all our non-senior defensive lineman decided to come back. I won’t venture a guess on his potential to contribute. The thought though is to give him 2019 to adjust and develop to see if he could be in the mix to be a starter in 2020.

Assuming we trot out the 5 SRs to start in 2019, every OL we have remaining will be “in the mix” to start 2020.

I try not to think about our 2020 OL.  It is a dark, cold, scary thought.

Anyway, I think it was a good call to move AJ over to the OL.  I hope he becomes a stud!  I’m guessing he projects as an OG?

Nope. Being 6 ‘5 with his long arms and athleticism from being a DE he’s going to work at OT.

We obviously don’t which is why we are making all these moves to try to get some.

We got depth, yes we do

We got depth, how 'bout you?

Last count there will be around 18 OL guys for five slots this coming season. If that ain't depth I don't know what is.
