On a positive note, Wade and Fitts had some flashes tonight. Wade’s stuff is as good as advertised, and once he learns to work ahead in counts, he is going to be really good. Fitts challenged hitters well and had good command. The highlight of the night, though, was when Jack said he may be back this weekend, and next weekend for sure. Rest up and go get the Gamecocks. WDE!

Control issues from so many of our young pitchers?    Don't understand......plate is the same size and same distance as in HS.....I'd think that at least guys good enough to get signed by an SEC school could throw strikes more often than not.

In high school they can blow it right by most guys.  The young pitchers typically come in trying to be too fine on the edges, knowing they can't leave it over the plate or they'll get hurt.  The difference between throwing and understanding how to pitch.

Good point...other than walks, some of the worst pitching mistakes are strikes right down the middle.

We were 9-1 going into this Montgomery game. Baseball is seldom like that between two teams competing at the same level. Last night we hit some balls hard that were right at somebody, while their hard hit balls fell into the gaps. Add to that our pitching situation with two starters injured, which means we had to save the guys that would normally pitch in this one and I don't feel too bad, though it's never fun to lose to UAT.

It's baseball. Good teams lose more games in this sport than any other sport. Bammer is not as bad as they were last year, and we just couldn't get some timely hits to fall last night. All is fine. Hoping for good news about Jack Owen this weekend, and possibly getting back Davis soon as well...

Would be nice to go get two in Columbia, but gotta remember, the SEC is about getting 2 at home, and 1 on the road. If you do that, you're in the conversation to host with a good non-con record, which we have.

P.S. Georgia Tech beat Georgia 11-2 last night. Georgia is number 4 in the country. Highly ranked teams lose to unranked teams all the time in the midweek. Sometimes, the ball doesn't quite bounce your way. We're 20-5 and 4-2 in the SEC, I'm OK with where we are...

I’m fine with where we are but we have to start hitting more consistently or we will start sliding backwards.

Always nice to see better hitting or more runs...but not sure that we can give up the amount of runs we're seeing lately and win regularly.   Seriously need our two  other starters back ready to pitch.   With Owens and Daniels out, its gonna be hard to win many series against the other big boys.    A ton of pressure on Burns not to lose.

Indeed but there’s little reason we shouldn’t score 5-8 runs v/s a team using their midweek arms. We have got to hit better.
