Other than LSU, the rest don’t want to be left behind.

With 4 teams in tbe Sweet 16 and 3 others that flamed out in the tournament, the SEC is on tbe rise in basketball. That’s not including  a rising Georgia program under Crean getting the commitment from 4 top 100 players including the top player in the nation.

I’d rank the vacancies as such:

Arkansas- Possibly Kelvin Sampson

Vanderbilt- John Thompson ii

aTm- Possibly Buzz Williams

Bama- possibly Matta

LSU is the caboose as the NCAA could hammer them.

The coaching will get even better.

I'd be ok against those guys coming in...all have mixed results in the past....good but not dominant.

Crean getting some pointers from Smart on how to navigate those treacherous recruiting waters.  Unbelievable to see UGA pull that kind of talent.

Uga is a sleeping giant in hoops if they ever get the right coach. I don’t think Crean is any good but there’s so much talent in ATL every year that there’s no excuse for Uga ever missing the tourney to be honest

If NCAA actually cracks down on the black side of the sport it might be more possible for everyone to get a share of the better players  instead of seeing them being bought/traded/sold  by mentors/sponsor/AAU coaches and quasi agents.

All we can do is hope and pray the FBI/NCAA and every conference President stamps out a ton of these back channel schemes.  They need to make an example of a few programs & coaches and put real, tangible the fear into them.

It's seriously going to take extreme cases like this Chris Dawkins agent serving serious jail time & then the NCAA really hammering coaches/programs for the crap where Will Wade & Sean Miller were caught dealing directly with the runners.

Supposedly the Arkansas AD wanted to have someone hired by now but some members of the BOT (who hired Chris Beard at UALR since it is a UA system school and got pretty close to him) are being stubborn and want to wait to talk to Beard and offer him a blank check.

When that pipe dream is done the rumor is it will be either Musselman or Gregg Marshall. We were going to offer Sampson more than Houston's new contract for him but he wanted his son to be head coach in waiting which he got there but probably wouldn't have wanted to do that at Arkansas.

I like the dream big attitude....probably wishful thinking but i like the attitude. The head coach in waiting thing is such BS. Is there really something that obligates the school to honor that or is it just a promise type of deal?

Why would Gregg Marshall leave Wichita State where he is a legend? They were pretty bad this season but he had that thing humming a few years ago and the American is a budding basketball conference

Some Wichita State fans on their forum were pretty critical of him, probably becoming a victim of his own success. No doubt they could likely match any offer for him but he hasn't had as much success since they moved to the AAC that he did in the MVC.

You're right about their transition to AAC. Is he looking around or is this just an Arky target? There's a lot of pressure to fill the open spots with good coaches now that the conference is full of coaching studs. Lol the basketball programs have a significantly more accomplished and proven coaches as a whole than the football programs in the SEC if you ask me.
