When people become responsible enough to clean up their tailgating  messes then that would be the time when I would be okay with on campus alcohol sales. Every time I'm on campus for a game it's saddening to see how our/my campus is trashed.

I partially agree; but I have to say, with the exception of West Point, and the Air Force Academy, (I’ve never been to a game in Annapolis Maryland) Auburn fans have to be the classiest Tail Gater’s in the entire country!

It's actually refreshing to see that Auburn isn't going to cave to social influence.

I was also impressed with UA telling Culverhouse to shove his $25 million.

I like the idea of no beer sales....but if they do allow it, then make the person go to beer stand and not have vendors selling beers....my BIGGEST complaint is the profane language....I like to take my young kids and wife to enjoy the game, not hear GD-MF....last year at the UCF game in Atlanta, the girls were the ones yelling the most, of course with a beer in their hand....maybe it was the girl who spilled her beer that really ticked us off and all we got was 'my bad'....

Can we do away with the foul language!!!! If so, you can sell beer, but remember that person will be behind the wheel on their way home...

I'm glad Auburn has decided against it. No need for it in the college atmosphere.

If you want to drink beer and be in this type of venue, then go to an NBA, NFL, MLB or NHL game. Take an Uber home.

Yea, because no one is drinking at an Auburn game.  There are probably more empty liquor bottles in the stands after a game than empty glasses or hotdog wrappers. Of course, only the big spenders in their luxury boxes are allowed to have alcohol legally, everyone else has to smuggle it in.

I understand people's concern around this but I agree with this post 100%.  There are a TON of people drinking at the game.  And to say the mere peasants who have to sit in the stands are not allowed but the royalty in the boxes can is just wrong.  AU should sell and they should profit from the sell just as every other stadium will end up doing.  I know...  "Just because everyone else is doing doesn't mean we should"...  HOWEVER, why shouldn't we?  Just because people will be obnoxious?  Really?  Because people won't be anyways?  I sat at a game last year and watch 2 grown men (both rooting for AU) almost get in a fist fight over play calling.  There was no visible alcohol involved yet they were both being stupid & obnoxious.  Alcohol does not make people be rude.  Those people are going to be that way either way.  AU should make their money off the sells and those who want to & and can afford it great.  Those who don't want then that is fine as well.

I don't think some of you have even been to a venue where alcohol is sold.  As someone who goes to multiple Auburn and Falcons football games a year, the college atmosphere is on a whole other level.  Every Auburn game I went to last year someone had to get escorted out for throwing up on their feet.  There is a fellow season ticket holder that sits across the aisle from us who I've never seen it make it past the 1st half before passing out.  For a lot, the idea is to get as drunk as you can before the game and then smuggle in a little booze.  Serving beer in the stadium isn't going to change anything.

Go to a Falcons game and its mostly people sipping on their craft beers taking selfies to post on IG and checking their fantasy football teams.  I had security called on me last year because the person sittin behind me was angry that I was standing up and cheering during the 4th quarter.  They have multiple full service bars by the way.

Some of these folks acting all self-righteous and pious clearly have not done the research. If they say they've been to numerous other team sporting events that sell alcohol and consistently see worse behavior than we witness at Auburn games, then they're lying. (The ignorant aversion to big bad evil pro sports that pervades both the Auburn and bama fanbases might be at play, also.)

As others have said, almost nobody gets drunk on stadium beer. As some others and I have said, the problems are caused by the people who are already drunk when they walk through the gate. And many of those people wouldn't try to get drunk enough for it to last 3 hours if they could just buy a damned beer at halftime.

I hate to break it to you but people are gonna be cussing like sailors regardless if there's some vendor selling $11 dollar Bud Lights on the concourse. Expecting people to not swear at football games is like expecting there to be no weed smoked at a Willie Nelson concert. It ain't happening and if it bothers you enough you should probably stay home.

I went and watched Memphis play UAB in Memphis several years ago, and the first vendor I came to upon entering the stadium was a beer vendor.  I was a little shocked and said I can't believe y'all sell beer here.  Vendors response was, "you're going to need it to watch Memphis football".

Did you buy a beer just so you could say, "I'm an Auburn fan. Hold my beer."?

The point is, does Auburn need to promote it further?

How about a different aporoach. Instead of alcohol sales in the stadium, maybe a tuf fee that allows a person to bring a 6 pack cooler to the game.

I personally disagree that that is the point.

I'm not sure that selling beer- while allowing everything under the sun to be consumed in mass quantities right outside the stadium- would qualify as "promotion". To me it would just be a pragmatic decision to generate revenue, enhance the game day experience for those who wish to participate, and take some control over what is consumed and in what quantities.

Ohio State and another big program... Oregon, maybe?... reported 40%-50% declines in alcohol-related incidents after going wet. Now, I could totally see them fudging the numbers to pacify the puritanical elements of their fanbases (and detractors), but not to the tune of cutting problems in half. A number that big tells me that, beyond the shadow of a doubt, selling beer has made their game day experience safer.

To my understanding, this thread was precipitated by the decision being made, at least for this year.

Factor in the liability, insurance, responsibility and training required to manage alcohol sales. Will legit vendors sign-up for this? Best to let consumers manage their own consumption and charge them a flat fee up front to bring their booze to the stadium and clean up their trash.

Respectfully, is that serious question? I don't think there's a professional sports venue in this country that doesn't sell beer.

As for the numbers: The first example I found, Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, sells $500k of beer per home game. That stadium only seats 70,000, but let's say that Auburn fans drink a lot less than Colts fans and beer sales would be about the same.  The Colts get to keep about half of that after all operating expenses. For Auburn, that would be $1.75 million in profit this season.

I am intrigued by your "corkage fee" model, though. How much would that fee be, and how many people do you think would pay it? Where would people keep their coolers during the game? Would every cooler be checked for contraband, weapons and such? How do you guarantee fans clean up their trash? What would that do to all concession sales? I mean, if I can bring in a cooler, then I'm definitely packing some sandwiches and water, too.

I'm ok with being a step behind everyone else in regards to selling alcohol in JHS as long as we take the proactive step of opening a cannabis dispensary in the stadium. Think of how the concession sales would skyrocket! Paying any buyout would never be out of reach!

We can call it Weagle Weed.

Hey I love Auburn so I won't even charge an arm and a leg for this idea. I don't even need a cut. I will settle for a university issued credit card that gives me free access to the goodies in this new goldmine inside the stadium for my hard work.

You're forgetting another perk, nobody will complain about the hot dogs ever again.
