One other thing. Trump doesn't "put his foot in his mouth". That is an attempt to normalize his insanity. The man says exactly what he is thinking. "Grab her by the *****" is not putting his foot in his mouth. He is a sexual predator. "She's not my type" is not putting his foot in his mouth. He is a misogynist. "I'll pay your legal fees if you hurt the guy who punched the protester" is not putting his foot in his mouth. He willfully incites violence. "Democrats are trying to destroy our country" is not putting his foot in his mouth. He willfully incites fear. Physically mocking disabled people is not putting his foot in his mouth. He is a sociopath. Saying he likes people who don't get captured is not putting his foot in his mouth. He disrespects our military. Calling Elizabeth Warren "Pocahontas" and calling immigrants "animals" while saying "there are fine people on both sides" is not putting his foot in his mouth. He is a racist.

There wasn't a crisis. There is now because Trump started rounding up people he doesn't have the resources to deal with. It's not complicated. It shouldn't be Congress's responsibility to clean up his mess but they will have to now.

 

Not rounding them up means just opening the border and let them come on in with no tracking of them and no way to remove them later. If you think the numbers are huge now they would dramatically increase if the border were opened. The majority of the people coming from Central America are hard working but with limited education and limited skills that are needed in this country. 

The problem is the conditions in Central America are horrendous and I understand why these people want to come here. My wife is from El Salvador and I have been there many times. I love the people but the solution has to come from Central America. In the past we and other countries have sent aid to all of the Central American countries but because of the corruption that is endemic there very little of the aid actually gets to the people it is designed to go to. 

I disagree with Trump saying he will cut aid to those countries but he is right in that the aid we send is not being used in the way it was designed. We should send aid but we should control how it is used to ensure that it is used properly. 

We have a choice either Open Borders which will exacerbate the problem or clean up the whole immigration system which has to be done by Congress. Clear asylum guidelines, enough judges and staff to catch up the backlog,  requiring people to request asylum outside of the US, Address the issue with dreamers. 

The whole Immigration System has been this way across multiple Presidents it is worse now because conditions in Central America, Venezuela, etc have worsened and groups have now figured out how to scam the asylum process and are doing it in greater numbers.  

The blame lays with Congress period intransigence on both sides of the aisle have created this crisis.

Great post again NTexas. Have had  a lot of interaction with people from Central American through my industry since the 80s'. Most are the epitome of humble and kind. Have a gentlemen from from El Salvador now working on my house in Mexico Beach FL that was damaged from Hurricane Micheal. The stories as termed by you are "horrendous".

No, I am watching his actions and listening to what he says.

Trump only cares about himself.  He won't defend out country against Putin's attempts to interfere in our election process because Putin was helping him and to take a stand against such interference would suggest he didn't win legitimately.

He won't defend the country because it makes his election look compromised.

That's holding self above the country's interest.  He cares less about the country than his personal image and prestige.
