There is a great deal of the Browns explosive offensive plans hinging on left tackle Greg Robinson and his ability to keep QB Baker Mayfield upright and comfortable. Robinson’s history says that’s a dicey proposition, but there are very encouraging signs from Browns training camp.

Look at Robinson’s lower body in the clip above. See how his feet are moving in concert with one another, and how light and crisp he is on them? Those are qualities Robinson has not shown in his past career. Having covered him with both the Lions and Browns over the last two seasons, watching every single rep (often multiple times), I’m not sure Robinson has ever looked so fluid, balanced or diligent with his pass protection technique.

Everybody stumbles into a good rep here and there. The key for Robinson is to bring that sort of technical savvy and prowess on every rep. And that’s why it’s so encouraging to see another rep where he stymies Myles Garrett by using excellent technique and proper balance.

Robinson has struggled his entire NFL career with being an impatient lunger, too aggressive in attacking and unable to keep his feet properly under him if/when he tries to recover. These two reps show a retrained Robinson.

He’s worked very hard with former Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley at his Offensive Line Performance training center. The focus on consistency of technique and proper footwork is evident.
