I wonder if it just until Darnold comes back from his injury.

OFC, Darnold has played really bad lately, and with the Panthers sorry record for now, having Cam takes a little pressure off of Ruhle, bc Cam fans will just be happy to see him in a Panther jersey again.

Panthers wanted to sign him for 2 years. I'm thinking Darnold is done.

Freaking ecstatic to have him back with the Panthers. Hope that he balls out and he can play 4-5 more years and retire as a Panther.

Darnold is done.  Basically had the exact same analytics as NY. Crazy similar actually.  It was a tweet I saw out there somewhere. Hadn't changed at all.

WOW!! It was great to see Cam playing again for the Panthers. He had a good outing and he really added a spark to the team. Really nice way to come back Cam!!

I could never get into Cam playing for the Patriots. It just didn't seem right.

‘Plodding away,’ Josh Harris makes the Pro Bowl

Updated: Dec. 24, 2021, 11:29 a.m. | Published: Dec. 24, 2021, 11:29 a.m.

By Mark Inabinett | minabinett@al.com

For “quietly doing my job,” Atlanta Falcons long snapper Josh Harris has become a Pro Bowler for the first time in his 10th NFL season.

“It’s just quietly doing my job,” Harris said on Thursday about his selection as the long snapper for the NFC Pro Bowl team, which was announced on Tuesday night. “That’s the approach that I’ve taken since my first day of my rookie year here. Do good today so, hopefully, they’ll bring me back tomorrow. Kind of keep plodding away and just do my job.

“The position doesn’t get a whole lot of recognition as a whole. For the most part, that’s a good thing. It was just one of those things that it was cool to get some positive recognition where normally it’s when things go wrong, that’s the only time they talk about the snapper position. But it’s a really cool experience.”

Marquice Williams, the Falcons’ special-teams coordinator, said Harris’ recognition was “long overdue.”

“He plays the game at a high level,” Williams said. “He’s great in the classroom, great in the weight room, great on the field. He’s a true professional. It’s awesome. And again, it’s a blessing to be a part of a team like this and having a long snapper like Josh that brings so many different tools to the table when it comes to special teams, when it comes to the cover game, return game. He helps in all aspects. If you ask him to be on the scout team, he’ll go on the scout team and help us out with stuff, so he’s a true professional. It’s well-deserved. We’re excited for him.”

For most of Harris’ career, the Pro Bowl coaching staffs picked the long snappers for the NFL’s all-star game, with the stipulation that they couldn’t select the long snapper from their team. In 2019, players and coaches voted on the Pro Bowl long snappers. Starting last year, long snappers joined the full Pro Bowl process, with fans, coaches and players voting on the position, and each group counting one-third toward the selection.

Harris’ grandfather Jimmy Morrow was on the 1957 Auburn team that went undefeated and won The Associated Press national championship.

On the final play of the BCS national championship game for the 2010 season, Harris snapped for Wes Byrum’s 19-yard field goal that lifted Auburn to a 22-19 victory over Oregon to cap an unbeaten season.

After playing linebacker and snapper at Carrollton High School, Harris walked on at Auburn in 2007 and served as the regular long snapper from 2009 through 2011, earned a scholarship in 2010 and went to the 2012 Senior Bowl.

Just as Harris beat out scholarship player Dax Dellenbach at Auburn, he signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent and earned the long-snapper job in a training camp/preseason competition with Joe Zelenka, a 13-year NFL veteran.

Harris said preparation has been the key to staying with Atlanta for the decade since.

“From a mental perspective, I think a lot of it comes from the preparation that you put in in the offseason,” Harris said, “and just the work that you put in during the week and training camp and things like that where when you’re in those moments, when you’re in the game, you’re not necessarily worried about what’s happening. You have a job to do just like anybody else out there does, so preparation is the key and trusting your training so that when you’re out there, you’re not limited by what you’re looking for or wondering what’s going to happen. You’ve put in the time, and it’s something you can fall back on and trust.”

Williams said snapping amounts to more than the skill necessary to get the football to the punter and the holder for kicks.

“It’s a hard position,” Williams said. “You think about playing the position center. You got to snap the ball and then protect. Usually, the offensive center has his eyes up looking at various rushes. Long snapper, Josh, he has his head down, so he might be looking at a certain protection, he’s listening to our personal protector, which is the quarterback to our punt team – and you could count Josh as our second quarterback because he has to confirm to make sure we’re getting in the right calls. He puts his head down, snaps the ball even further than the offensive center, and now he has to get his head back up and block a defender, usually a defensive player that’s rushing to go block the kick, so that position’s pretty hard.

“And not only does it take physical traits to do that, there’s the mental aspect of it and also the preparation that he does going into the week. He looks at all the rushes from the coordinator’s history, things that we can anticipate, and we have great dialogue when it comes to what we’re going to go against that week, so the preparation aspect is key, and that’s why he’s been playing at such a high level for so many years.”

Harris’ selection gives the Falcons a set of Pro Bowl specialists. Kicker Younghoe Koo was the NFC Pro Bowl kicker last season. Thomas Morstead has served as Atlanta’s punter for the past four games. He spent the previous 12 seasons with the Falcons’ biggest rival, the New Orleans Saints, and was a Pro Bowler in 2012.

“I can’t speak highly enough of either one of those guys,” Harris said. “Thomas has had an incredible career. We’ve laughed that I didn’t think I would ever be snapping to him in a Falcons uniform. But it’s been great to have him and his leadership in the room to help with the bond and what we have going on the field, off the field.

“With Koo, the guy’s earned everything that’s come his way. He’s done nothing but work his tail off to be the best version of himself. He does that each and every day on the field, off the field with everything he does, so it’s really no surprise at all to see the success he’s having.”

The Pro Bowl is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. ESPN and ABC will televise the game.

Well, we've been Kicker U for a long time, so it's good we finally have one going big at the next level.

Hopefully that changes over the next few years!
