On the half time show today on espn, each commentator (two of them) picked a team that was surprising. One chose auburn and talked about their second five were as effective as their first five. (Other was Ohio State). Getting early props. Hope we can keep it up.

I keep seeing these top 10 teams getting knocked off -- Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina -- by lower ranked (or unranked) teams. Yes, it's early in the season. But ....

BUT .... Auburn has not played any top ranked teams yet. The guys are doing really great, especially in second half of games. Not sure if NC State will present the kind of challenge they did last year. (You'll remember, we lost to NC State last year.)

I'm not sure Auburn is ready for the top tier teams yet, but watching Stephen Austin beat Duke and unranked Michigan beat the wholy crapola out of #5 UNC today .... if Auburn guys can figure out how to shoot a frorkinating free throw .......

All that said, the Sagarin is genuine, 100% bull hockey in every sport. I don't know why anyone even looks at thpse numbers anymore. Junk stats.

Glad you noted that....when it came out for football last week, most people on this site totally dismissed it.

BUT...those BB upsets this early are interesting.   Freshmen dominated teams are often inconsistent early in a season but no excuse for them to lose to those teams.   I like the stability that our senior lead team has …...and think we can avoid the big upset.  USA was a better team than many expected and got by them.....an excellent learning experience that seems to have paid off in subsequent games.

Nailed the deserving 1983 college football champion.

Still a long way to go, but I'm really liking this team early on!

I know the NCAA doesn't use the RPI any more but the live look from Warrennolan.com has our Auburn Tigers at #1 in the RPI. It was a very good day for us since Colgate, Richmond, Furman, and Furman all won today! Every team except South Alabama and CSUN are .500 or better and the last 5 teams records are: 7-4, 9-2, 9-1, 7-3, 8-2.

Auburn ranked 7. So nice to finally get the respect I think we deserve considering I've been hearing so much talk about how we haven't played anyone. Auburn currently has wins against #22 - Richmond, #57 New Mexico, #66 St. Louis, #101 Davidson, and #102 Furman. And we play #50 NC State on Thursday.

I think that talks comes from the early season schedules that the top teams have played. There have been a lot of top 10 and top 20 matchups early in the season and AU hasn't been in any of them.

Yup....we've played a lot of good teams and no great teams. We are lucky that we haven't dropped a game or 2 so far this season so i think Pearl nailed it with the scheduling. I do wish we had someone a bit higher rated then NC State as our marque OOC matchup....i think they also fall under the good not great label.

I'm not sure who, besides CBP, worked out this out of conference schedule, but that person deserves a raise. Looking at it preseason, you could tell we had a lot of solid mid-majors that could challenge for their conference title. But I for one, had no idea it would measure up so well in the metrics.

Job well done scheduling assistant person whoever you are.

Crazy thing is I'm not that surprised at this. I've been paying a lot of attention to the teams that we've beat and watched them continue to win after they lost to us. A lot of people like to look at the name on the jersey and overrate a lot of teams but the rankings that matter most has it about what I expected. Auburn is top 10 while a team like Kentucky who has only played 1 decent team all year is 58. 1 big game doesn't equal 5-7. Add in the fact that we have only played 4 home games out of 9 is HUGE.

Did a quick check today.  Unless I misread some scores, CSUN (2-10) is now the only team we've played with losing record.  Overall our opponents have a W-L record of 63-35 (64%-36%).  I'd have us somewhere in the top 10.

Its nice to have favorable metrics, but I’m fine being ranked 12. At this point eye-test-wise we don’t look like a top 10 team to me. Certainly not top 5.

this next one will be interesting

Yet they rank us at #12!!! I guess who cares about rankings, but it does frustrate me that the so-called "experts" still rank AU outside of the top 10.
