Marquis Daniels is back in the Sweet 16 for Auburn — this time as a graduate assistant.

Auburn men’s basketball assistant Marquis Daniels was involved in an automobile accident Saturday night in Auburn and was transported to Birmingham for treatment, according to a team spokesman.

Additional information will be passed along as more details become available.

Daniels starred at Auburn from 1999-2003 and was a two-time All-SEC selection before enjoying a 10-year career in the NBA with four different franchises: the Dallas Mavericks, the Indiana Pacers, the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks. Daniels returned to Auburn last season as a graduate assistant while earning his master’s degree from the university.

Daniels, 38, was promoted to the team’s director of player development this season.

Glad to hear Marquis is OK. Anyone hear any update on Chette Williams son being killed Saturday night in Atlanta? Didn't see anything about it in the paper this morning.

Not trying to get any rumors started but something seems off about how little information has come out about this.  Considering he’s pretty high profile you’d think more would have come out.  Glad he’s gonna be ok.

Auburn’s Marquis Daniels ‘on the road to recovery’ after successful surgery

Marquis Daniels is back in the Sweet 16 for Auburn — this time as a graduate assistant.

Auburn men’s basketball assistant Marquis Daniels underwent “successful” surgery on Monday in Birmingham after being in an automobile accident Saturday night in Auburn.

“I spoke with Marquis yesterday," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said Monday night following his team’s 91-62 win against Colgate at Auburn Arena. "His surgery was successful today, and I’m going up to visit him tomorrow. So he’s on the road to recovery.”

Daniels, the Tigers’ director of player development, was involved in an automobile over the weekend in Auburn and was transported to Birmingham for treatment, the team announced Sunday afternoon. Although he is expected to make a full recovery, further details about the accident or the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed by Auburn. Pearl said Monday that he did not know how long Daniels would remain in the hospital or when he is expected to return to the team.

A two-time All-SEC selection at Auburn during his college career, which spanned 1999-2003, Daniels played 10 seasons in the NBA with four different franchises -- the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics -- before retiring after the 2013 season. Daniels returned to his alma mater last season, working on Pearl’s staff as a graduate assistant while earning his master’s degree from Auburn. This offseason he was promoted to director of player development.

An Auburn spokesman said Sunday that more information on Daniels will be released when it becomes available.

Marquis tweeted out today that he is ok. Tweeted a pic or wreck that looked pretty bad.
