SEC Officials / lack of accountability

Do we know who's officiating the IB?  Anyone's child a current or past Bama student?  Anyone with ties to Bama?

It's gotten where I have a hard time watching the games at all bc it is like everyone is saying, it's when it's called or not called that affects the game.

Officials should be required to attend a press conference after each game and answer questions just like the coaches and players.

Now THERE’S an idea. It’ll never happen but would make them accountable.

No matter which crew calls the game the reviews go to Bammerham so we are not getting a call against bama. Timely calls or no calls will be the order of the day. When they threw the late holding call on Shivers TD last year we knew how it was going to go down. As Marlon Davidson says we have to beat the refs too!

Anyone can easily see the officiating bias toward SEC schools that have a chance to make the playoffs. This issue MUST be addressed and stopped. I like the suggestion a previous poster had that officials should be full time and held accountable publicly for blown calls. Replay officials should not be exempt from these requirements either. I would also like to see coaches given 2 challenges for blown officiating calls, especially those in crucial moments during the game. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE!!!!!

Refs should be rated after each game by both HC. If they don't reach a predetermined threshold, they are not suspended a game. If they miss it three times they are replaced for the rest of the season.

Young??  😂😂😂😂😂

Officiating was never as bad as it has progressively gotten.  Money is the reason for it.   And the dead period between 1907 and 1948 had little to do with officiating.  It was more about who paid expense per diems and how much they paid.  They also disagreed on officials and who paid them.

This is totally  true!!

After more glaring missed calls at critical moments by the SEC Officials that seemed to effect the outcome of games that included Ga, Bama , or Lsu ( the SEC hopefuls for the playoffs) it is apparent that something is amiss that can no longer be ignored or tolerated.  Now this post is opinion, so if you don't agree feel free not to.

After watching what i thought was foolishness at half time at the Harvard/Yale game ( the sit -in at midfield to protest climate change?), I rethought their actions.  They were escorted off 40 something minutes later and were allowed to go back to the stands ( though some chose to be arrested).  Now i feel strongly too about the subject, but the other way that they do-- but they felt so strongly to be arrested....

I said all that to say this.  IT is time the fans of the sec take the lack of integrity by the sec /ncaa in their own hands. The commissioner and ncaa have the coaches and schools handcuffed with threats of fines and suspensions.  We need to  stage a similar sit in at midfield, as boycott of games or such will hurt our universities and not the sec itself.  Maybe just the threat to do it will bring a response?  We know that Money corrupts and Money buys most all, but surely there are enough effected by the crookedness that can say enough is enough.  Call it fair and square.  Our conference is good enough to stand on it's own

That's an excellent way to earn a slew of penalties for the home team or force a forfeit. I say go for it...🙄

Sounds like that would be a wash to me.

Coach A: "The lack of a holding call at the 3:32 mark of the 2nd quarter on 3rd down and 17 by #67 on our #5  that resulted in a 1st down for the opponent is reprehensible."

Coach B: "I would like to say that I didn't see a hold on that play. Good job."

If we are good enough we will get the favoritism also. We have before and we will again -- and I'm not gonna include a barb towards Gus here.

Think of the climate around the NCAA in 2010. They made Cam Newton eligible a few hours after saying he was ineligible. No investigation. Just a ruling IIRC. This is when breaking NCAA rules was publicly shunned and precedes the era where "the kids should be paid" was a common thought. If Cam wasn't a demigod QB and a national draw and AU a national title contender I doubt it would've been such a quick overturning of his eligibility. It doesn't stop at the SEC, the NCAA is also playing the ratings/money game to their benefit, consistency and ethics be damned. Cam turned out to be innocent after the NCAA's investigation after the fact so it was a non issue but what if we had lost the natty to Oregon? Would the NCAA have tried to pin something, anything, on us? They probably hate the idea of having to vacate a national championship. It's bad for their brand.

And don't get me started on the NCAA and them wanting to manipulate the results involving the teams named in the FBI report in college basketball out of the NCAA tourney. It may not be true but there is enough shady crap out there that it would be naive to flippantly dismiss the possibility.

This thread is delusional. Go sit on the 50 yd line at halftime to protest officiating and get back with me on how that goes.

You scream at the tv or yell from the stands and tell me how that goes.
Do what you always done and you get......

Not at all. When you take a test if you get a wrong answer you miss the points. A correct answer doesn't make it a wash. There's some merit in that proposal.

That argument would have merit if administered by an objective 3rd party and not the involved HC's. As such, it only depends on which coach's team the bad penalty was called on.

An objective 3rd party would be ideal but I don’t know how you make that happen.  How many 3rd parties would it take to review 60 games per week and see every aspect of each play?  The process now involves university film crews putting clips together of what they or the coaches think is a questionable call or no call and sending it to the SEC for evaluation.  I’m sure the SEC reviews game films as well but apparently nothing ever comes from those reviews.

The SEC and other conferences occasionally "sit" a crew for a week for two for blatant missed calls.....but considering some of the blatant stuff that does gets a "pass" I'm always wondering what it takes....maybe like the 5th down play that decided a game       I am still of the view that generally by reviewing an entire game of work you probably would not get much.....well maybe if they totally ignore holding all day.....but the real issue is the "timely" flags (sometimes kinda late being tossed) that change the outcome.

I am convinced the call that gave  bama .01 at the end of the game a couple years ago was to set them up for another Van Kiffin moment....just did not work out that way.   And the flag on Shiver's TD changed the entire game right from the start.   There are lots more of course.....

My point is....reviewing a game's worth of calls will possibly get a few really bad refs.....but it will not have the possibility of changing those close calls where opinion is the factor....and which can change the game outcome ...

The refs go through some very rigorous training as this clip shows. You really have to give them a break, we can all relate:
