What the heck did lil nicki mean in his halftime interview when he said by rule it takes 3 seconds to snap the ball after the clock starts?  Is that a Saban rule or one that he will petition the NCAA for?

Guess it will be a rule next year... count on it

except according to gus,  we were not trying to catch them with 12 men.   Waddle was expected to get off the field  and we were to suprise (quick) kick with no one back to receive.   It just happens that bammers were not smart enough to get waddle off the field in time.

Decent strategy if it would have worked as planned.  We would have had them pinned deep.

Better strategy if you opponent is too stupid to even realize what is going on and leaves the PR on the field.

WDE.

Which makes it even more idiotic. All they had to do was play safe return with 10 men up front and Waddle back. They really thought we might go for it??

This is exactly what I was telling people at the time who were letting their bias get in the way of logic. We got a first down. The clock stops after the first down in order to move the sticks. As soon as foward progress stopped the play was dead and clock stopped. Normally we would have struggled to get set up in time, but since they didn't blow the whistle after Boobie was stopped, like they should have, they had to review for time. We got set up during review and snapped on the whistle. It was completely and totally legal. He just didn't like it.

Chizik on the SEC show was saying the same thing. The was nothing shady or against the rules on the play and the end of the first half. It was legal and that is the way the rules work out. Called a stop whistle play where the team is lined and the center snaps on the blow of the whistle. Said Auburn just executed it to perfection.

Our organization PROCESS vexed him? Only one solution for him...

He's talking about the minimum time required on the clock to get to the line, snap it and spike the ball to stop the clock.  By rule there has to be 3 seconds on more on the game clock to "legally" have enough time to do this.   If there's less than 3 seconds on the game clock there is only time for ONE play.     His quote of the rule was accurate, it just didn't apply here because replay intervened to put the second on the clock.   Since replay put the second back, the clock would start on the ready for play (like it would have in a normal situation after a first down).   Here's the rule on it:

Minimum Time For A Play After Spiking The Ball
ARTICLE 5. If the game clock is stopped and will start on the referee’s signal
with three or more seconds remaining in the quarter, the offense may reasonably
expect to throw the ball directly to the ground (Rule 7-3-2-f) and have enough
time for another play. With two seconds or one second on the game clock there
is enough time for only one play. (A.R. 3-2-5-I)

I honestly feel if this outburst was ANY other coach in America instead of Saban, he'd be flagged for 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct.

That and he's past the numbers on the field, which is SUPPOSED to be an automatic unsportsmanlike penalty, but since he's dink, he's the only HC allowed to be a repeat violator with zero consequences.

Just watching the replay and looks like all of Nick's bellyaching prior to the half over the one second gave the AU team time to get settled down and ready to make the snap.   Lots of standing around by all the players waiting on Nick's complaining to stop and the bama players to get set.

I know it's hard to own our failures when we inevitably do. Human nature seeks to pass the buck.  But between that and allowing Tua to play when he shouldn't...he's made some costly gambles lately. He can rant and moan, pointing fingers at everyone but...still, he looks himself and no one else in the bathroom mirror...

Maybe CGM is not the only one who could benefit from a reread of his own prose...

Also, did we substitute players or just line them up in different positions? If we didn’t, should they even be allowed any time to substitute?

It wasn't nearly as "tricky" or unusual as some believe. No more so than flexing a QB out on the wing while running the Wildcat. When you see what it was, it makes the Bama coach's reaction even more head-scratching and hilarious.
