Derrick Brown went up against one of the best offensive lines in the country and came out as the Lott IMPACT Trophy player of the week. The trophy goes to the nation’s “defensive best in character and performance.”

With his seven tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, Brown was a “dominant figure” in Auburn’s Iron Bowl win. He also batted down a pass late in the game, which helped Auburn preserve its 48-45 win over Alabama.

This season, Brown is tied with Marlon Davidson for a team-high 12.5 tackles for loss. He also has four sacks, four passes broken up, two quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles. His efforts have earned him SEC defensive lineman of the week three times, second only to Davidson who has won it four times.

Brown is up for three national awards that also recognize character and performance. He is a finalist for the Outland and Bednarik awards, which are announced Dec. 12, and the Wuerffel, announced Dec. 10.

Brown won the award over four other nominees for week 14 — Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa, Texas defensive back Brandon Jones, Wisconsin linebacker Chris Orr and Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

The Lott IMPACT Trophy will award Auburn $1,000 to go towards its general scholarship fund because of Brown’s performance.
