Coach G coming in at number 4 overall in the country!!!! THE OG SHOWS he is one of the best to ever do it!!! https://247sports.com/coach/Rodney-Garner-66/

Kodi Burns is our next coach in the rankings at number 73. He had 5 commits this cycle and 4 were Fours Stars. https://247sports.com/Coach/Kodi-Burns-3780/

Crime Dawg at number 102.  Had 3 commits this cycle. All were 4 stars. https://247sports.com/Coach/Wesley-McGriff-113/

Larry Porter flew up the board late and came on strong to finish at 113. https://247sports.com/Coach/Larry-Porter-622/

Another OG our DC Kevin Steele finished at 134. https://247sports.com/coach/Kevin-Steele-2053/

Travis Williams came in at Number 381 in this years. Ranking. Three four star commits. Average star rating of 92 though is still strong. It will be a year of what could of been. Had some bad luck with 3 top 75 players he was primary or secondary flipping to another school. No doubt he will bounce back. He is to good of a recruiter not too.

First year on this staff coach our very own Cadillac came in at 622. Only 1 commit but he made it count and it was a big one in Tank. average star rating was 98.

For the guys who left the staff Dilly was 27th overall with a whopping 8 commits. We are def going to miss his crutin ability even if Morris is a huge upgrade schematically.  https://247sports.com/Coach/Kenny-Dillingham-3893/

Muhhhhhhhh boy  Marcus Woodson ( pour one out for me! I am still hurting losing Woodson) finished at 107 after being top 10 last class. https://247sports.com/coach/Marcus-Woodson-2219/

And newly retired JB Grimes came in at number 180 in his last year as a coach with 5 commits.

I think the way those rankings are set up completely fail to tell the real story.

Yes sometimes sure. That's absolutely true. Like Dilly having to hold JB hands on his OL commits.

I don’t know about holding his hand. Dilly did most of the work on OL recruiting.

I was taking it easy on him!!!! Haha. I didn't want Mikey coming in here with a 37 page dissertation on why JB Grimes was the best recruiter Auburn has ever had!!! Lol.

No worries there. When I "come in" on something I'm on solid ground.

Even though I was told to ignore these lists by @ellitor I will still give props to Rodney.  It's his first haul in a couple of years that almost addressed our needs.

I never said nor implied to ignore recruiter ranking lists. If you are going to call me out at least get your facts straight.

That's fair. From the last class only 1 guy is expected to move inside to DT.

My apologies, it was @CR.  He mentioned you in the post and I got my wires crossed.  Also, calling you out?  I think you may have read into it a little much.

Tagging someone with a believed inaccuracy is calling out IMO. Not a major thing though.

How do these rankings translate. For example if someone is ranked 110th in the nation is that average? Pretty good? Anyone of some ranges for how you would evaluate the staff by their rankings?

That's really hard to say. There's a lot of variables in play. A coach can be a great recruiter but only need 1 or 2 for his position & mainly only recruit his position, thus his total will be lower. In this case #110 is the Iowa St DC & while he's 110 nationally, he's 14 in the Big 12 which sounds pretty good.

Other than promoting being in the top 10 for how it looks on the recruiting trail, you wouldn't.

No dissertation here on his ending career awesome but JB Grimes fought cancer, old age and put in some amazing energy at the end of a good coaching and previously fine recruiting career. Malzahn's loyalty to him was a double edged sword but some of you trashing JB need to get a life.

Haven't seen anyone trash him. He couldn't recruit & close on big targets during most of his time here is a statement of reality, not trashing opinions.

And that's a VERY gentle way to describe his efforts and his results.
