Former Auburn running back Stacy Danley was a highly touted running back, signed in 1986 out of Winston, Georgia. During his tenure at Auburn, Danley appeared in 37 games as an Auburn Tigers and was a part of three consecutive SEC Championship Teams. Including bowl games, Danley left Auburn with 578 career carries for over 2600-yards rushing. He along with James Joseph shared most of the backfield duties from 1987-1990.

This Auburn Flashback highlights his first 100-yard rushing performance, which came against Alabama in 1987 as a redshirt freshman. Entering the game, Danley had only 68 career carries at Auburn but he was slowly becoming the featured back. Before the 1987 Alabama game, Danley had recorded 53 carries for 240-yards during the three games leading up to the Alabama game. His first Iron Bowl would mark the first time he had over 20 carries during a game.

Stacey Danley and the Auburn defense was the key component to Auburn’s 10-0 victory over Alabama. The game itself would decide who would win the SEC Championship that season and Auburn’s victory sent the Tigers to the Sugar Bowl to take on an undefeated Syracuse team. Danley had 26 carries against Alabama, rushing for 157-yards against the Crimson Tide. His performance resulted in being named the MVP of the game.

During his Auburn career, Stacy Danley’s best performances came against quality opponents. His top-five individual performances came against Alabama (twice), Georgia, Florida, and LSU. During his eight combined games against Alabama and Georgia, Danley averaged nearly 100-yards rushing per game. Stacy Danley's career was hampered by injuries with 1988 and 1989 being his two most productive seasons. Danley earned All-SEC honors during the 1988 season.

Nice video.  The Iron Bowl in the late 80s was some of the best rivalry football ever played.  Stacy Danley was one of the toughest players to ever walk the Plains.  It’s also really crazy to see the parallels between Auburn’s only touchdown drive in 87 and their only touchdown drive in 88:  1.) A long pass to Tillman (from the exact same part of the field).  2.) A big run by Danley.  3.) A touchdown by a guy with a ton of promise that did not finish their career (87- Harry Mose.  88- Vincent Harris).  It’s really weird how similar they both were.

My 2nd favorite AU running back to Bo. Stacy seemed to get better as the game went on. Especially against bama.At the end of the ‘89 bama game, they put it in his hands to run clock. Loved watching him run.
