Why are y’all acting like one of the walk ons wont be capable of being a good punter? It’s very rare that punters get ranked or stars coming out of high school

I can see him doing some pooch punts when we’re across midfield but I personally don’t think the staff would take the chance on him being a long distance punter with pressure and everything. Just my opinion

For perspective, Siposs at 43.8 ranked #35 among punters. The worst punter in the country, ranked #124, had a 37.7 yard average,

Of course Bo's 2 or 3 punts were in specific situations so i'm not sure they tell us anything about his ability.

There are a ton of kids out there who can easily average 40+ yards a punt with solid hang time. I would bet money Auburn has 1 or 2 walk-ons that can do that right now. That won't put you near the top but it also won't get you in trouble.

I don't think Siposs was ever what this fanbase was hoping for, but his ability to place punts, did get alot better this season. Didn't have the range but I liked his touch last szn

What I take from those stats is that a more mature player that had trained at a premier kicking program for a couple years only averaged 6 yards more than a 18 year old that was 3-4 months removed from HS.

I could be wrong but I’m almost positive Bo was Pinson Valley’s full time punter his senior year. He was every time I saw them play I know that much.

Probably has to do with the situation on the field, too.  I doubt he was kicking too deep from his own territory, but don't recall.

That's my recollection. Just out of field goal range. Gus did it a lot with Cam, too. It's something he does that I like. Why not, just in case you catch the defense sleeping. Limit the possibility of a return, too. Can't remember a time it didn't work out well enough.

Siposs was also lined up 15 yards behind the LOS whereas Bo consistently punted from about 4-5 yards off the line, with no rush, and no real concern for hang time or a return.

1\2 sarcasm; 1\2 real.  There was some rumors that there were some rules proposed that would have restricted this play.  The rules committee did disregard this and did not pass any rules.  No it would not have been for just one team, but it would have been because 1 team got screwed by the other team.  The same as the new rule about "must be 3 seconds on the clock for a play to be run at the end of the half\game".

I'll just say I hope the coaches do not plan to actually enter the season with our starting QB being the starting Punter. I don't care if Bo can boom 70 yarders.....at some point there will be a return and your starting QB will get creamed trying to cover the punt. Its fine if you want him to pooch punt it but that is it.

Those were pooch punts trying to pin it down inside the 20.  Not a good barometer of leg strength.

based on the previous page, his HS punting matches what he's done here. I'd figure in 4 years if they found out he could do more than pooch punt 38 yards they would've tried it

Gus Malzahn has lost his ever lovng mind if he even thinks about allowing Bo Nix to do Auburn's punting. That might work with his high school football team in Arkansas, but not for Auburn and not in the SEC.

It’s been a month since the Kentucky football program took a hit from the transfer portal, so they were due.

Multiple reports late last week indicated that Grant McKinniss is likely leaving the Wildcats via the NCAA transfer database.  A Kentucky football official has since confirmed that the placekicker is indeed listed in Ye Olde Portal.

Now, for what’s seemingly becoming a daily disclaimer when it comes to transfers.

As we’ve stated myriad times in the past, a player can remove his name from the portal and remain at the same school. At this point, though, other programs are permitted to contact a player without receiving permission from his current football program.

NCAA bylaws also permit schools to pull a portal entrant’s scholarship at the end of the semester in which he entered it.

McKinniss was a three-star member of the Kentucky football Class of 2016.  The Ohio native was rated as the No. 7 punter in the country.  As a true freshman, McKinniss averaged 39.2 yards per punt.  That number was third among freshmen in the SEC.

After taking a redshirt in 2017, McKinniss served as the kickoff specialist for the Wildcats the past two seasons.  The kicker/punter would be leaving Lexington a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.

So he was only third in the conference amongst freshmen? How many freshman punters were there in the SEC that season?
