BIRMINGHAM, Alabama—Auburn is picked to finish third in the SEC West by the league’s annual preseason media poll that was announced on Wednesday and the team’s quarterback did not make any of the three all-star teams.

Normally a part of the SEC Media Days week, that summer event was cancelled this year due to the covid-19 outbreak. Two Tigers were named to the first team all-star squads and five received third team recognition.

Alabama and LSU are picked at the top of the SEC West with Texas A&M fourth. Ole Miss and Mississippi State finished fifth in the voting with Arkansas at the bottom of the division. Alabama is picked to win the overall league title.

Florida is picked to win the SEC East ahead of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Auburn’s first opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats. Missouri is picked sixth in the division with Vanderbilt last.

Auburn’s only first team all-league picks in the media poll are senior linebacker K.J. Britt and senior end Big Kat Bryant. Britt earned first team all-league honors as a junior.

Sophomore Bo Nix, the 2019 SEC Offensive Freshman of the Year, did not make one of the all-league teams. Nix was a third team pick on the preseason teams chosen by the coaches.

Florida’s Kyle Trask is the first team selection at quarterback, Kellen Mond of Texas A&M is the second team choice while Mac Jones of Alabama, who was picked off twice for touchdown returns by Auburn players in the Tigers’ victory over the Tide last season, is the third team selection.

Other Auburn players on the all-league preseason teams chosen by the media include junior wide receiver Seth Williams and junior offensive tackle Brodarious Hamm on the third teams.

Junior defensive backs Christian Tutt and Smoke Monday are third team pick while junior kicker Anders Carlson is also a third team selection.

All SEC teams are scheduled to open their 10-game regular season schedules on Saturday.
