That’s why we never saw Pettway until everyone else was hurt.

Well, Barrett is on D and Joiner is in the portal. I bet I know who the new wheel/flat route specialist is going be! Let's go, MAR!

MAR and Joiner are MIA and you will never get a believable straight answer from Gus why that’s  the case. Also MIA are the many throws to the tight ends we were told to expect this year. It’s fatiguin

Still no MAR this week. It seems to me like he is not in the coaches good graces.

Since Gus is not in our good graces it only seems fair that doesn't make an appearance next week either. :)

We had a running back a few years ago and cannot remember his name.  All I remember was he eventually got kicked off the team but his excuse for not playing was he did not understand his blocking assignments.  Then the starter got hurt, he came in and killed it and started for the rest of the year I think.  So evidently when #1 gets hurt you automatically become a better blocker. The reasons will be many and none will add up.  He will play if someone gets hurt or MAR will transfer.  Hope neither happens cause I too would love to see him get a few carries.

Believe Stove was a scratch because he got hurt. Just watched the gus interview from yesterday and he said MAR is "coming along and still learning the offense" which sounds like BS

It's not B's it's gm which is a notch below bs. This is just my opinion but MAR is another one those players Gus recruited who he doesn't have a.clue what to do with.

Either MAR isn't entirely over his injury, which was a serious one, or he's simply not performing at the necessary level. He'd have been in the Arkansas game if he was in any way serviceable.

Deal and Fromm are also TE's both big targets Deal more of a blocker and Fromm more of a receiver if Frazier hurt we could use them. It seems despite all the talk about next man up that is all it is talk.

If we’re not going to use them then Gus wasted yet more scholarships that could’ve gone to OL.

Now that we have no gimme games, I'm sure Gus is going with the guys who know the offense already, and have already played enough to contribute. Once Shivers gets back, MAR may never see the field.

Another reason is Tank is showing he is an every down back, DJ is the compliment and breather back, and Shivers will bring speed and energy back to that group. It will seem that MAR, unless he has some special skillset will have to wait until a RB gets hurt again or next year.

No, he's talking about Kam Pettway.

KI took a few games to earn his way onto the field but he never faced any discipline issues that I'm aware of. He definitely never got kicked off the team. Also, he didn't get the job due to RB1 getting injured. He was easily the best RB. Just had to put it all together enough to satisfy Tubs.

Pettway was a hell of a ball carrier in that offense, but KJ was a better all around RB than him and he never would've gotten the job all to himself if KJ hadn't gotten injured.

He could also be referring to jovon Robinson

JRob's lack of participation in the first half of 2015 was officially listed as an ankle issue, but you're right that his ankle magically got better about the same time that Barber's got hurt. And then he, of course, got kicked off the team. But Barber still featured pretty heavily that November. He actually had more carries than JRob in the DSOR.

1--i agree that Tank played pretty well the other night, but is MAR hurt again or what?  is he the annual "can't wait to get him on the field...doing awesome in practice" guy?  and he never plays, and transfers.

2--Dj on the field quite a bit, but lined up at WR nearly every play when he was in.....i am no coach, but why not use typical WR instead of 2nd/3rd RB?

3--speaking of WR....eli stove was MIA.

4--OL is just weird.  we again look soft, and don't fire off the ball.  supposed changes are coming, but what the crap do they do in practice?

5--OC and playcalls.  yes its hard when your OL is getting killed but 1st and goal @ the 7-->qb runs x2 and then (another) swing pass to flash.  this game wreaked of gus calling predictable, scared plays again.  just like the junk before halftime...the quick handoff to flash, trying to catch them off-guard.  hell, uga wasn't stupid.  we didn't call TO just to run out the clock.  mindboggling, AGAIN.

As frustrated as I've been with how things have looked, I actually have no problem with the coaching staff when it comes to the Joiner issue or the lack of TE receptions. Joiner was 5th on the depth chart. He showed flashes, but wasn't able to beat out the people above him. It's the same thing with the Gatewood situation last year, and I never understood why the fans are surprised. With running backs, you will usually play your top 1-3. Once you get to 4th on the depth chart, unless you are running like the Navy flexbone offense with a lot of 3 back sets, you are not going to see the 4th guy or lower very often. With Quarterbacks, you rarely see teams run a 2 QB system unless both quarterbacks have a major weakness. Both Joiner and Gatewood transferred because there were better people on the depth chart getting most of the snaps. It is the same reason MAR isn't getting playing time. He's shown flashes of potential, but, in terms of complete skill set, we just have better guys right now.

As for the tight end, I feel like people should've caught this by now... You rarely scheme passing plays for specific positions, and, unless you have some incredibly good TE, you probably won't see plays to specifically scheme them as the most open receiver. You have multiple pass catchers open on every play, and the quarterback has a progression they are supposed to go through to find the best option out of those receivers. So far this year, we've had TEs on the field more and they've had more diverse routes than they've had in the past. They aren't getting targets because a) they still aren't getting open that well, b) when they are open, usually a receiver earlier in the progression is also getting open, c) Bo has tended to force passes to receivers at times this year. Either way, there isn't a game plan issue here with the TE. They are running legitimate routes to catch passes. They are more involved.

Idk. I swear I saw a tight end standing on a play Saturday not blocking or route running. Like we played with 10 guys. Wish I could remember which drive/player, but whatever.

I personally have no faith in cgm's ability to get the depth chart right. I just don't. When a guy is 4th or 5th on the string, half the time coach just has it wrong. Too many surprises come off of his benches, and too many sought-after marquee players transferring a year after we had them penciled in as a savior. Maybe MAR is hurt, I have no idea. Can't use good faith to figure it out though. Just skepticism.

Jovon was the guy but it was rumored very heavily that KP was in the doghouse for some off the field issues that season. who knows

Gus’ philosophy on RB’s is to run whoever has the hot hand into the ground until such time the other backs decide to enter the portal and then pretend he was doing the right thing all along.

We've seen this movie before.

I agree with all of this. I have noticed UGA playing their top 5 RBs however. White, Cook, McKintosh, Milton, and I can't remember the other one, but I have seen them all get meaningful snaps. Now, we obviously do not have a RB room quite like that. So yes...1-3 should get the majority of meaningful touches. So here is my question. Worm is hurt. That leaves you with Tank, DJ, and MAR. I still see no MAR. The biggest complaint I have with Gus and RBs besides his history of running RB1 into the ground, is that he doesn't seem to want to play the guys until the very last drive. If we are up by 20+ points and game mostly in hand, why not let those backups get some plays while you still have the 1st team in there? Seems like he is too scared to let a 3rd string back get a meaningful touch. JMO

1. Shivers was out with an injury.
2. Both Tank and DJ got carries at RB, and I expect there will be a 3 RB rotation when Shivers returns, as in the first game.
3. If MAR is not getting carries, it is because Morris is making the decision, not Gus.
4. If MAR is not out there, it is most likely because (a) he hasn't mastered the plays, (b) he can't block worth a crap. or (c) Tank & DJ are just better.

If you are NOT an **INSIDER** I'm suggesting you do not have the day-to-day knowledge of player capabilities that our coaches do. And if you figure that you are more experienced, more knowledgeable, more brilliant than our coaches, then I'm wondering why you are babbling here on UAF rather than coaching a spectacular offense!

I'm not a Gus apologist, but I am a practical realist. Coaches do not make decisions with the intention of losing. And they are not hired because they are complete dumbs**t morons with ZERO knowledge/experience who are DEDICATED to bringing down our Auburn football program.

I am no more happy than anyone else here with the current Auburn situation. But I'm not going to start accusing coaches of intentionally sabotaging our program. IMO, they play the guys who they believe can contribute most to a win. Every single game, every quarter, every play, they want to win.

And ya know what? If Morris decides to stick with Tank and DJ (and Shivers when he is healthy), I do not accuse him of intentionally sabotaging the team, or not wanting to win. He wants to win. He wants the best players on the field for the best plays in his playbook.

Now, as for his playbook, and Gus's, well I've got a lot of reservations and I'm ready to dump the whole lot of them. But I do not question their desire to win or the choices of players who they think may help them win.

Are you a better coach? Gimme your resume of teams you've coached.

I don't think anybody has questioned whether or not the coaching staff want to win. I haven't seen (maybe I missed it) anybody accuse Gus or any other coach of intentionally sabotaging the program either.

There is historical evidence of roster mismanagement from this staff. Maybe that is not the case with MAR. I think that is probably why the thread was started. People want to know other people's opinions of why MAR has not been seen.

Most of us are not insiders so we ask to gain others insight and possibly stir up one of the people who actually are an insider.

I personally believe Gus does what he thinks is best to win, however, I think there are times where his assessment and following action have been wrong.
