I never called in, but, ironically I did to Bear Line. A friend/teammate from HS was on the bammer team and a group of us (some bammers with me) coaxed me to call and ask about him. I did meet Coach Dye during a recruiting visit (I was a guest along with my friend who was the prospect) on the field before a game. 
 

I guess I am one of a very few ‘average’ fans who spoke to both Coach Dye and Bear Bryant.
