The list of winners who were once losers in a different job is extremely long. Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll and Nick Saban were all losers at one point. Speaking of Belichick, Josh McDaniels was a loser head coach who has added 2 Superbowl rings as an OC. We should have won at least 2 SEC championshipswith Kevin Steele as our DC. He was a loser head coach, too.

Also, Mason had a 20 year career of steadily moving up the ladder to become a *very* winning DC at Stanford before he went to Vandy.

Broyles list finalist if I remember correctly

No to Mason. Absolutely hell no!!!

Mason as a DC: In 11 of its 14 games, Stanford held its opponent to 20 or fewer points. That included a 14-point effort in the overtime win at top-ranked Oregon, who led the FBS with a 54.8 scoring average.
Mason’s defensive backs were pivotal to the historic defense’s efforts, including All-America Ed Reynolds and Rose Bowl Defensive MVP Usua Amanam. Reynolds ranked first nationally with 301 interception return yards, one yard short of the NCAA single-season record.

Over the last six games of 2012, Stanford held opponents scoreless in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Stanford held eight of 13 opponents under 100 yards rushing in 2012, and in a string of three consecutive games, the Cardinal recorded three of its top-10 single-game rushing defense performances in school history: No. 3 at Colorado (minus-21 yards), No. 4 vs. Washington State (minus-18) and t-No.9 at California (three). The Cardinal set a school record by allowing only 76 offensive yards at Colorado.

Mason teamed with Jason Tarver to mold Stanford into one of the top defensive units in the Pac-12. The Cardinal ranked either first or second in the conference in six defensive categories, including rushing defense (1st - 84.4), third-down conversion defense (1st - 31.1), scoring defense (2nd - 21.9), total defense (2nd - 337.6), sacks-per-game (2nd - 3.00) and opponent first downs (2nd - 17.5). Stanford finished third nationally in rushing defense.

Wonder if Todd Grantham would be a good DC for Auburn.

Can Mason recruit. I know he can coach the D; but, we need awesome, first class top 5 recruiting too.

Ole Miss 247 mods think Lebby has already interviewed FWIW

I miss the days when I could trust mods and sources. I probably never could, but now I know I can't. Sigh... I do hope they're right.

This is going to sound bad but another plus to Mason is that because Vandy wasn't really competitive, I don't think he will be on anyone's radar for sometime to be a new HC so we probably get a good amount of time out of him.

So we want a guy that no one else wants?

Well, some people who make decisions within the program did want to promote Kevin Steele to HC. Crazier things have happened!

I am sure you know that they just don’t want him as the head coach, just like muschamp. They are elite coordinators.

That isn’t true. It has been reported LSU, USC and others are interested in him as DC

Thanks...does anyone have an idea of who we might be interviewing?  Seems like it is all being kept very close to the vest; which I think is good.

For DC? No... but Harsin is a guy that likes to have his ducks in a row before he does things. I imagine with KS being officially out now that it won’t be long before someone is named

You damn sure can't trust 24/7 except for Neibuhr. If you are thinking f a subscription, save your money and go to a gypsy palm reader instead. Lol, I made a comment about this site providing more, and more accurate accurate info and it got zapped immediately. Damn shame a free site like this one is where I go to instead of a pay site like 24/7. I wasted my money on a yearly and they won't refund it. Going to 24/7 for inside info is like giving Viagra to a corpse, a waste of time and effort

Additionally Mason made a name for himself shutting down Chip Kelleys no huddle spread.  IDK about SEC offenses

I'm starting to think that if it comes from the 247 forums, just assume the opposite.
